Saint Xavier Insider- week three

Featured Replies

This was a tough pill for me to swallow but I have to swallow it. I'm not so much upset that we lost but more so how we lost. I don't know why I expected anything different in the third week, but it was the same song just the third verse. Poor Qb play, poor third down defense, and an over emphasis on passing the ball. Though there were new lyrics in this verse .poor tackling.

The rumblings in the stands and from fans I've talked to are not positive; Questions about why X didn't run the ball more? You have to wonder about Browning and how would Glaser have done with this talented team?

Questions that no one has the answer too. On to the review

special teams

Another great outing. Great punting and punt coverage much improved kickoff coverage from the previous game. No missed extra points or fgs, so this unit is quickly becoming a strength for the tigers.

defense

For the 1st time I'm three games, the defense gave up over 100 yards on the ground. 97 of the 150 + coming from the qb Hayes. One positive, the defense did a good job in traditional rush defense. Only giving up 57 yards to the running back with the rest coming on broken plays which led to Hayes scrambling. As already stated, same song with the pass d. Multiple opportunities on third and long situations to get off the field, but can't/don't. Honestly not sure if its the coverage or just mental lapses, but either way it needs to be corrected quickly.

offense

Not much to say. Qb play has been terrible throughout all three games of the season. Nagle for the third game in a row has completed less than 50% of his passes, made crucial mistakes in the most inopportune times and threw an interception. I'm not trying to attack him but I'm not understanding what the problem is. He looks great in practice but when the games roll along he just doesn't seem to have it. Hopefully if he stays qb1 he can get it together. I only have stats for walker, 18 carries 131 yards, 2 tds. Luke Hayden caught seven passes for 98 yards, Will Roshkowski had three catches for 34 yards and Nick King caught two passes for 40 yards and one TD. i don't have the stats for Davis nor Percell.

Tigers are now 2-1 and face fairdale Friday. We still have a lot of work to do, but the sky isn't falling in poplar level.

I saw at least 3 or 4 dropped passes Friday night. At times BG couldn't stop Walker. The only thing that stopped him was the coach.

Good review. Thank you.

Exactly. It's perplexing. I can recall two passes being dropped but in defense of the receivers they weren't exactly perfect balls. But with that being said its the crucial mistakes that make people really dislike nagle. All throughout the stadium, the fans were speaking about his poorly thrown balls and his inability to read through his progressions.

Good Work by Avid. Tellin' it like it is... More questions than answers.

First Mistake: Why would you defer the kick after winning the toss ? X should have taken the ball and driven it down the neck of BG. Steady dose of Back A-B-or C would have set the tone and I am talking right down the field...... NO PASSES... Just good old Glaser ball to set it up.... I for one knew BG would score pretty much at will, and playing from behind with 12 minute quarters always adds to the equation.

Second Mistake: Taking the ball first series right at them to a FIRST AND GOAL at the 4 Yd. Line. Sweep right for 7 yard loss ....////////?????WHY ????? Botched Pass........//////?????? Why ????? Settle for Field Goal..... You HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME>

And so goes the rest of the game. I can go on and on........Hard to watch and I am afraid the more this staff works with the kids, the less they become interested. I truly think that they are starting to not believe in themselves

QB should change now. There is nothing I have seen, including the inability to read a defense, or look at more than just one locked on receiver that tells me Nagle can handle this job........ Houck should get the start on Friday to see what he can do. I honestly don't know if he knows what he is calling. And all the fumbles, including one in the red zone. I would give him a D- for his play through 3 games.

Lastly, get rid of this 3-4 defense... X does not have the personnel and the 4-3 works better for their rotation.

no more droning..... I am over and out.

Totally agree with the nagle assessment 100%. As far as the kids being disinterested, they truly feel they can win state this year and want to bad but it will not happen if changes aren't made quickly.

get rid of this 3-4 defense:clap::clap::clap::dancingpa

A game against Fairdale does nothiing to help the cause.
