Close early..then Belfry imposed their will and exhausted Somerset.

Belfry outgains Somerset somewhere around 400-180.

Somerset with only 25 yards and one first down in the Second Half

Wow..somerset so far a huge disappointment.

Once Belfry stopped #1 for Somerset this one was over.

I have a game report on this one to do once I get back to Ohio.

Belfry really looked like a team in this one, while Somerset had #1 and their QB, a Soph. I believe who looked very good. The QB was a really nice runner, who seemed to see the field very well , while running and looked football fast.

This was a tale of two halves.

Belfry led 14-12 at the half but I thought Somerset had outplayed them personally. Somerset had stopped the Pirates rushing game for the most part but gave up a few big plays.

Belfry opened up the 2nd half 3 and out, and their punt pinned the Brier Jumpers inside the 5. It was a short, ugly punt, but they got a good roll and lucked out. Belfry forced a safety to take a 16-12 lead and then scored on the ensuing possession, and you could see the wind come out of the sails a little for Somerset.

After that, it appeared to me that the Pirates started to wear down Somerset. I thought they were better conditioned and the Brier Jumpers looked tired in the 4th quarter.

Belfry is very young on defense. At one time, during the 2nd drive of the game, I counted 4 freshmen in there at one time. I can only imagine how wide-eyed I would have been as a freshman playing in that atmosphere. They have a way to go, but they did settle down well in the 2nd half.

The offensive line for Belfry is also a work in progress. They have good size, but only have one starter returning from last season. It is going to take them a while to get it together. This is not unusual for a Belfry team, it just takes patience, hard work, and time.

Somerset has a nice team with all the pieces of the puzzle to be really good. They have tremendous speed in several positions, even without Lange. They will win some ball games and IMO will be a player in the 2A playoff race.
