A thread for those less talked about in NKy

Featured Replies

I wanted to start a thread for some of the lesser talked about players in NKy. Maybe underclassman who will have a varsity role this year, or sophomores and juniors to be who aren't "stars" or "big time" contributors just yet.

1. Connor Kunstek (St. Henry)- big, strong, athletic, and from what I understand has, or is working to, convert himself to a perimeter player. Young man always seems to work hard, appears to be a great kid. He rebounds the ball well, finishes at the rim with strength and has decent touch on his short to mid range game. He should be a major player for SHDHS. Saw him ranked as a top 15 player in NKy, but gets little love here.

2. Andrew Hedger (Dixie)- big, strong, athletic kid as well. All district player, getting a lot of college interest in football. All district post player at Dixie, rebounds very well, good footwork in the post, and fairly consistent midrange game. As a sophomore, did some really good work for Dixie, not listed as a top 20 player in the region, but will have a chance to prove himself this year.

3. Landon Lamblez (Conner)- just a hard working, strong kid. What do you need him to do? He'll do it. Brings energy at Conner, rebounds, defends, and can hit some shots.

4. Brett Mayberry (Boone)- aggressive defender, decent ball handler, isn't afraid to stick his nose in and rebound. Can hit some shots and get to the rim. Compliments a kid like Stanley very well. Is a team player and is very coachable.

5. Austin Schreck (Dixie)-This kid could be one of the most dynamic juniors this season. Can play the 1, 2, or 3 for Dixie. Uses his body very well at the rim to create space, can knockdown mid range with consistency and will rebound.

6. Adam Goetz (St. Henry)- real solid ball handler, can be an aggressive defender, will likely play the pg role at SHDHS and get decent varsity time. Should set up Kunstek and others well out there.

7. Noah Robinson (SK)- tall, long, athletic kid. Can hit the jumper, has decent handles, and will get the rebound and take it the length of the court for a layup. Shot will fall with good consistency this year, IMO.

8. Matt Wilson (CC)- big, strong kid. Also, athletic and will run the floor. Strong in the post, can block shots, and will rebound and clean up around the rim.

9. Matt Mullins (SK)- rebounder, hardworker, and has gotten much stronger over the years. Has a good 12-15 ft jumper. Should be able to do a lot of things that Steiner asks of him.

10. Grant Moeves (NCC)- a lot of people forget about him because he doesn't play summer basketball. Solid athlete, can handle the ball when needed, and has a nice shot. Also, a long frame should help him this year. Will compliment well at NCC.

11. Mitch Bolin (Dixie)- very long (about 6'7") and is a kid that's getting stronger. Played a lot of JV last year and have to think is time is coming. Can block a lot of shots, has a decent drop step and baby hook, and will run the floor. Actually defends ok on the perimeter, too.

12. Mark Schult (CCh)- will play a big role in how good CCH can be. Can rebound, is a big body, and can clog the lanes. An aggressive kid, with a fairly high motor. Isn't afraid to take a charge, and should be able to clean up around the basket a bit.

Just my list. Kind of long, and I could go on and on and on. I'll leave some space for you all... Please share!

One player to add...

Koby Carlton (Gallatin)- played some varsity as an 8th grader I believe. Fast, quick kid with an aggressive nature. Handles the ball pretty well, and can really get to the basket. Pretty strong defender.

Would like to hear more about grant county, other Gallatin players, and Pendleton county. What do,we have out there?

I really like Conner Kunstek. That kid is an animal on the boards. Very surprised he didn't get more playing time last year. He absolutely dominated against Holmes and looked good when I saw him a couple other times.

Spot on!!! Ran into Coach Faust a couple of weeks ago and brought up Conner, he said he would take a team full of Conner's. He said he was proud of the way he played in the Regional last year.

Excellent, excellent idea!

To give each player his due, please start an individual thread about each player with your comments.

I did one myself from your list to give you a template.
