August 8, 201313 yr Actually making the postseason has quite a bit to do with winning MVP. It's rare that the winner ever comes from a team that doesn't make it. That number is skewed though. How many times is the best player not on a decent team though? With 5 teams making the playoffs from the NL I'm about positive the MVP will come from the Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers, Pirates, Reds. Is there a player outside of those teams that really is better? A-Rod winning it with the Rangers when they sucked was an instance though.

A-Rod winning it with the Rangers when they sucked was an instance though. Yes. Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Gomez, and Paul Goldschmidt may be having the best three seasons in the NL. My whole point is, if Votto manages to win the batting title, which he has a very legit chance to do, and the Reds end up making the post-season, he has a good shot at it IMO. His WAR number is ridiculous, his OBP and OPS are as well. I don't think he will win it, just pointing out that he has a better shot than most think.
August 13, 201313 yr I know starting pitchers seldom win MVP because they only play every 5 games and they have their own award. I just think Kershaw is that dad blasted good.
August 22, 201313 yr Author I voted for Yadier Molina, but after the series against Arizona, no one can convince me Paul Goldschmidt isn't the NL MVP this season. That guy is a machine.
August 22, 201313 yr I have to think Goldschmidt is going to be in the running even though I voted for Kershaw. Still 6 weeks left a lot could happen.
