Bishop Brossart vs. Bardstown (All A State Semis) Predictions

Featured Replies

Bardstown is very athletic and looks to spread the floor out a lot. They have two really good guards, don't know names but their numbers are #12 and #3. #12 runs the point and the show for that matter, while #3 can light it up from outside. They have a decent inside presense as well, #33.

Brossart likes to slow the game down a bit and looks to run a lot out of their half court sets. Cooper, Mutsch, and Lubbers will be tough to stop in the post for Bardstown if Brossart can use them effectively.

I beleive the key to this game will be the officials. If they are calling it tightly, I think it plays into the hand of Bardstown, however if they let them play Brossart should be able to take advantage of their physical play under the basket. There should be some interesting matchups.

What's everyone else's thoughts? Should be a good one. :thumb:

The guards are Desmond Phillips (#3) and Brian Calhoun (#12). Kurtis Neel and Eliot Mattingly are inside.

Calhoun is one of the best all-around athletes to come through Bardstown in a while, and that is saying something. As he goes, so goes Bardstown. Those who watched the Somerset game will recall that when Somerset made their runs in the 2nd and 3rd, Calhoun was out of the game, and the other Tiger ball-handlers were getting the ball stripped. Goode puts Calhoun back-in, Boom he hits a shot, makes a steal, and Tigers go back up into double-digits.

Tigers were not very good at beating the zone last year, but they are shredding it this year. They have a little more problem feeding it inside when you press them, but every two or three games, Neel will explode for 25-30 points. You are not going to beat the Tigers down the floor defensively, and they will put their top defenseman, Josh Payne, on whoever your hot shooter is.

Bardstown's intangibles are senior leadership, all 5 starters are seniors, but they have a good bench, too, with Calhoun's little brother, Vinny, and WenQuel Graves.

I know nothing about Brossart other than what I have been told or read, which is DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE. I think the key will be offensive rebounding for Bardstown, they like to kick it out on second chance shots. I'll go with my heart and say Bardstown by 3.

That is a very good assessment of the Bardstown team that I saw last night. They like to get up and down the court, very athletic, however if you took Calhoun out of the equation, Barddstown becomes a very average team. I'm sure Brossart will be throwing some schemes at Calhoun. My only worry is that Brossart may sag off Phillips (#3) to help on Calhoun. Phillips looked like he had a very soft touch on his three point shoot. This one should be a good game. Like you said, rebounding will be a key. Bardstown has to shoot the ball well tonight, because Brossart is a good rebounding team. Each team has to stay out of foul trouble because neither of them goes very deep. Good luck to each team tonight.

I'm saying Brossart by 8, 62 to 54.

I was told this morning by a Tiger fan returning from Richmond that Calhoun woke up extremely stiff today and had a gimpy ankle and sore ribs. That could spell big trouble for the Purple & Gold.

I think more than likely if anything is going to spell trouble for the Purple & Gold, it'll be the Green & White. They're too big, tough, and physical for Bardstown IMO, and I look for another 4th quarter performance by the Mustang JVs...

I know. We really suck. We really don't have a chance against y'all, we really just need to skulk back to the 5th Region and tell everybody about the great Bishops, their great feeder system, their great region, and tell Elizabethtown, John Hardin and everybody else not to worry about playing because the Bishop is the Mac . . . :fight:

Be my guest. Watching them play last night I wasn't at all impressed. They have no inside presence at all and Brossart has 3 guys that are tough to handle down low. Bardstown will be quicker for sure, but Brossart has never had to play their opponents tempo, they always force their style on everyone else. I see this game to be no different.

I'm glad you weren't impressed. Noone is every impressed by Bardstown. I, on the other hand, am highly impressed with your schedule this year, with big wins over Silver Grove, St. Patrick, and Calvary Christian.

Have you faced speed like the Tigers this year? I heard Harrison and Pendleton could move the ball pretty well, oh, how'd you do against those teams by the way?

Let's keep it clean guys.

Sorry, Scribe.

We beat Harrison by 21 on a neutral court, and lost by 2 on their court.

not impressed: what do they need to do to impress you? They are quick on quick and have beaten some quality teams. Don't over look them
