Keep in mind, during Clinton's term the country was experiencing the "Irational Exubrance" Fed Chairman Greenspan warned us about. Back in those days, one economist stated if one has a pulse, they could find a job. Once the country realized there was no foundation supporting that economy it fell as we hit I think around 2002 and it seems like we never really could get out of that rut even today. Around 2005 or 06, I thought the country was climbing out but the banking nightmare hit in I think early 2008 and went well into 2009 and 10 causing unmployment to to jump and all welfare roles ballooning. With unemployement in the 7.5 to 7.9 range and possibly still falling from the double digits in 2010, I am hoping more and more people will become free from welfare. While I agree some people have no problem riding on welfare, I believe many, many more accept welfare with a bad taste in their mouth and would love to be rid of it will gainful employment.

Also would like to see the total population of Louisville broken down by race and then compare that to the number receiving food stamps . It it possible Rock Mom started this to highlight how its whites breaking the bank but the facts leaked out that blacks historically receive a much higher % of aid . Maybe I've been watching too many race conspiracy news stories lately ?

The statistic that is missing and may not be available is the aggregate expense of providing food stamp benefits by race. The fact that the unemployment rate among black Americans is much, much higher (approximately double) than it is among white Americans suggests to me that the average benefit paid to black Americans would be much higher.

 

Looking only at the percentage of people by race who receive some food stamp benefits is misleading if somebody is trying to show that money is being spent equally on benefits for whites and blacks. It would be grossly unfair if that is the case, when the black unemployment rate is so much higher. The simple fact is that black Americans receive a disproportionate amount of welfare benefits in this country and statistics that show otherwise are misleading. The SNAPS program is means-tested, so it would defy common sense to accept the premise that white Americans consume such benefits at the same rate that black Americans do.
