Ryle names new coach

Featured Replies

Per Richard Skinner.

Ryle athletic director Jim Demler says the school has hired a softball coach and a second “new” girls’ soccer coach since the end of last season.

Craig Milburn is the new softball coach, replacing Patti Oliverio, who stepped after this past season following five successful seasons as coach in which she compiled a 127-57 record and led Ryle to three Ninth Region championships (2010, 2011 and 2012) and one Ninth Region runner-up finish (2009).

Milburn is a native of Springfield, Ky, and has been at Zephyrhills High School in Florida for the last 34 years. He wore many hats during his time there, serving as Athletic Director (28 years), head baseball coach (16 years, 263 wins) and coached fast-pitch softball team there for the last nine seasons. He has compiled 147 victories in softball and ended the 2013 season with a 19-7 record. In 24 years of coaching both baseball and softball, his teams have only had two losing seasons. He recently retired from Zephyrhills and moved back to Kentucky to be closer to his family.

“We are extremely excited to be able to hire a coach with this type of extensive background,” said Demler. “Coach Milburn has an excellent track record of experience and success. We are very confident that the success of our softball program will continue under his guidance.”

Ryle hires softball coach; new girls? soccer coach | The Skinny

Sounds like a very good hire. Congrats to Ryle and good luck in the upcoming season.

I thought I was gonna get it. Bummer.

Good luck to the Raiders and their new coach. Except when they play the Birds of course... I heard that the previous coaches left them with about a half dozen beat up balls and took all the equipment with them. I do understand that they paid for it but wasn't there anyway they could have found a way to leave them some?

So Ryle HS does not provide equipment for the softball team? I kinda find that hard to believe, if the former coaches did pay out of their own pocket for the equipment then I think they should take it with them.

I don't know about all the equipment, but I know they paid for one, if not both, of the cages beyond the right field fence. They were planning on taking it with them.
