The Jr All-Stars game 33rd/34th District 5 - 35th/36th 3.

The 35th/36th District squad, behind the pitching of Anna Clements of Holy Cross had a 3-1 lead until the 5th, when the 33rd/34th District team puts a "4 spot" on Becca Ruschel of Holy Cross. Ali Crupper of Ryle and game MVP Dallis Knotts of Boone County took the mound for the winners.

The Sr All-Stars game was a close won as the 33rd/34th escapes with a 3-2 decision over the 35th/36th. The score was 1-0 35th/36th behind the pitching of Brossart's Mary Kay Reilly until the top of the 7th, as the 33rd/34th get 3 across. However, the 35th/36th score 1 with two out in the bottom of the frame and a runner on 2nd, but the game ends when a ball is hit to Cooper's Lauren Willet and she tags the runner heading to 3rd. Mary Kay Reilly of Brossart went the distance for the 35th/36th, while game MVP Erica Lang of Simon Kenton, Miranda Ladanyi of Ludlow, Samantha Elmore of Lloyd throw for the winners.

 

Thanks to all the Umpires and all that were a part of a wonderful event for a good cause, the girls had a really great time.

Special "tip of the hat" to Kevin Rengering for all his hard work in getting this together. BTW, he did a great job on the PA, he might have found his new calling. :clap:

Good games indeed. Coaches did a nice job playing everybody. I was impressed with Madison Graham of Boone County as I thought she hit well.

 

The Thompson girl for Conner played well too! Nice atmosphere. Great job Dixie.

Everybody involved with Tuesday’s inaugural Gary Huhn Northern Kentucky Softball Umpires Association All-Star Game doubleheader at Dixie Heights agreed that the event was a successful step in heightening the profiles of the area’s top players.

 

The American team beat the National squad 5-3 in the junior all-star game. The Americans also beat the Nationals, 3-2, in the senior nightcap, but it was difficult to find anyone who felt like a loser.

 

“These kids were wonderful,” said Newport Central Catholic’s Denny Barnes, coach of the National juniors. “They all wanted to be here and they had fun.”

 

Boone County’s Dallis Knotts was named junior MVP after going 2-for-2 and pitching shutout ball every other inning while earning the win for the Americans.

 

“A bunch of us used to play together on a summer traveling team called the Kentucky Xplosion, and it was great being with those girls again,” Knotts said.

 

Conner’s Paige Thompson also had two hits for the Americans while batting second in the order. She usually hit ninth in a deep Cougars lineup.

 

“It was fun playing with people from other teams,” said Thompson, who singled to left field and scored a run during a four-run fourth for the winners.

 

Bishop Brossart’s Allie Anstead had a pair of hits for the Nationals.

 

“What a great day for Northern Kentucky softball,” said Conner’s Kristin Koors, coach of the winners. “It’s definitely beneficial to get exposure for the girls.”

 

The senior game experienced a lightning delay as the American team batted in the top of the first. When play resumed, the Americans took a 1-0 lead on a ground ball hit to shortstop that was played for an error.

 

There was no scoring until the seventh as winning pitcher Erica Lang of Simon Kenton retired 11 batters in a row. She pitched a three-hitter, struck out seven and was named senior MVP.

 

The Americans took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the seventh, the first coming across on a single by Ludlow’s Miranda Ladanyi, the second scoring on Lang’s double to left.

 

The Nationals pulled to within one in the bottom of the seventh when two runs scored on a wild pitch, but the runner representing the tying run was tagged for the final out by the shortstop while going from second to third on a batted ball to the left side.

 

“These games are good because we’re trying to build up Northern Kentucky softball,” winning senior coach Roddy Stainforth said. “We’re still trying to catch up to the rest of the state, and when you have events like this, you get instant credibility.”

Very nice crowd on hand for both games, although it did "thin-out" with the lightning delay. Both senior teams had "quite a few" missing for the game, as Jr All-Stars, Madison Graham (Boone Co.) and Paige Thompson (Conner) both were needed to fill the roster for the 35th/36th district team.

Sounds like a great time, wish Maddy Moran and Grace Herrman from Holy Cross could have stayed to be a part of it.

I heard from some of the umps that hundreds of dollars were raised for Special Olympics so that is cool too.

 

The Seniors that couldn't be there for whatever reason missed a fun night. I hope this continues. When is the boys all star game?

This was a great evening for the young ladies, thanks to all the coaches and fans for there support, thanks to all the umpires and the outstanding PA work by Kevin, I hope this event will continue and grow a little each year. Also thanks to all the Special Olympics athletes that was there and a special thanks to Dixie Heights and there staff.

Just a wild guess here but I would be willing to bet there was a lot of food at this banquet!

 

Congrats to both Noelle and Jamie...i was lucky enough to know both these young ladies for a very long time...Noelle and my daughter played a couple years together when they were younger and I have known Jamie all her life...her dad and I grew up and played ball together and if it wasn't for me coping off her mom for approx 10 years I would have never made it out of High school or Elementary school!!
