Lee County has hired former Bath County Coach, Brian Johnson.. Brian spent two seasons at Bath County (2005-2007) piling up a overall record of 19-36 (10-28 in region) (5-10 in district)...No district championships and made it to the regional tournament, once.

 

On another note, I was told that Lee County girls basketball coach, Matt Watterson, did not apply.

I had heard something about a former Bath County Coach but didn't know who it was during the process but nothing about interviews and the finalist.

I was told that this is a questionable hire by Lee County that he doesn't relate to the kids, he was ran off as an assistant coach with another school because he was going and trying to rally the parents so he could get the head coach fired so he could be the head coach, also heard that he didn't show up for summer games and all that throughout the summer. Also heard he's really good friends with Lee County's principal.

I've never heard of him. Coach Wright did an excellent job in tenure at Lee Coach, those shoes won't be easy to replace. Best of luck.

Heard Lee's principal done this as a favor to Brian. A lot of Lee County folks are not too happy about this

Bath had a guy from Tenn., Morrison in 2005-06. He wore a vest and blue jeans. Johnson moved in from South or North Carolina in 2006. He was only there 1 year before moving to Rowan. I watched several of the district games including a district tourney win over a superior Fleming Co. team. Then the regional game at MSU was amazing. Bath played Russell with all those seniors and was within a few points with minutes to go after trailing by 20+.

 

I talked to one of his former players and he said they won 7 out of 9 to finish the season (I verified on KHSAA) and they went to region for the first time in 9 years, AND it was the best record Bath had in 15 years prior to 2007. I didn't check that info. but if its true, sounds like he finished strong. Looks like the end of the year Bath beat Morgan, Rowan, East Carter, Lewis, Fleming. I believe Matt Daniels was on that Rowan squad. It looks like they finished strong.

 

Can anyone verify this last part?
