I thought CC came out flat. Joe Rawe I think pitched 4 innings and Andrew Perrin came in and got the win.

 

The winning run was a bold move on the runner. Paul Griffis was the lead off hitter got on by a walk, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and stole 3rd. Avery Wood hit a blooper foul ball about 15 - 20 feet past the 1st baseman. He was running to it with his back towards home plate. As soon as he caught it Griffis tagged and made it safely at home. I think if you talk to the NC parents he was out if you talk with the CC parents he was safe. I think what hurt NC in this one was the catcher was on the 1st base side of home plate so Griffis had complete access to the plate. It made my heart stop! I do not know any names for NC but their pitcher #15 pitched one heck of a game.

JD Wagoner was pitcher for Nicholas..thought also he threw a really nice game. Thought there were a couple if bad calls this game. Real weird play ball hit to shortstop and Wagoner hung between home and third foot race back to third and Campbell's SS dives and tries to tag runner whose sliding back in and it was close but from the angle the runner was never touched but umpire called the runner out.. The other play at the end of the game. Thought that catcher got back and blocked the plate even though he was on 1rst base side but what the umpires failed to see is the batter was standing in the way up the line looking like a cutoff man and the ball bounced right beside him on the throw which technically could've been interference..but other than that it was a really good game.

Hearing from a couple neutral spectators, they thought both calls were correct. I cannot say sure as to being safe, or out. I was down the right field line and too far away. From my right field angle, I was in a straight line with the 1st baseman and the catcher. The batter never came between throw and the catcher. The catcher caught the throw from the 1st baseman and made a play. Ump called the runner safe. Where was the interference? :popcorn:

According to the rule in the comment section if you read it right.. The batter was up the line in the way of the throw...Rule 8.4.2 of the comment section... In my opinion I thought where the batter was could've hindered the throw to the plate.. But it's 50/50 and the umpire made a judgement call whether he was right or wrong.. Just seems a strange way to end the game...

Ultimately, I thought what allowed the runner to be called safe was how the ball checked up and bounced slow and high instead of skipping to the catcher.

The batter is who I was saying interfered cause he was standing up the first base line in foul territory with both arms up looking like a cutoff man. That's where I thought they could've got the interference.

Why would a first baseman think the guy wearing a different uniform was his cutoff man? Why would the first baseman even be looking for a cutoff man for a throw to home?

Where was the batter supposed to be? He just hit the ball. So he ran to first. They caught the ball. So he stopped running. Where was he supposed to be?

If he had his arms up it could have been interference, much like when a players slides into 2nd base with his hands up on a double play.
