Even if coaches nominate players, if they don't go to the meeting to promote and vote for their players they probably will not get selected.

That is true but there are some coaches who do show up at the meeting that can and do say positive things about players that they have seen from other teams. And sometimes a player will get selected even if their coach does not bother to show up :ylsuper:

That scenario may happen for Louisville/Western KY players but won't happen for NKY. Let's be realistic.

Well to begin with, you actually have to have coaches from the region as members. There are a mere 4 representing the 9th region. Second, you have to have the coaches actively participate. When one school out of 9th is the only regular representation, it's not going to happen.

Agree, it is a shame that there isn't 100% participation throughout the state in the KSCA. Same with stat reporting to provide an accurate landscape for every eligible vote cast to be an informed one, but I think that the competing stat gatherers (i.e. local papers, websites) has an effect on that.

 

As a parent, I would ask the coach at the initial parents meeting if they are a participating, active member in the KSCA, fairly advocating for the players on their team. If not, I would ask directly for an explanation as to why not. Might prompt a few more coaches in that direction.

I think at the end of the year we should get together and write a letter to every AD demanding that every coach is a member.

 

If money is the issue we can put a small fundraiser together to cover the $30 or $15 fee.

 

I understand it can be a pain for coaches to have to drive down to a meeting a couple times a year but if its that much of a problem don't take the job. I get that most coaches make little to no money coaching HS sports but it really is a job that should be done bc you love the sport or the kids, the little money you make is a bonus. We could lose a couple good coaches bc of this but my guess is we gain more good ones.

 

So for the softball coaches not members get off your butt and get this done.

 

How about other sports in NKY is it that bad for them also?
