Bryan Station 2013/2014

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Bryan Station? Remember, please be constructive.

If Bryan Station is still hosting their Defenders of the Station Classic, does anyone know what teams are participating later this year?

During my time in Lexington, keeping their own talent in their district (i.e., avoid losing their own kids to other teams) was always one of the bigger challenges facing Station.

Aside from that, playing and being disciplined would be a priority, as that usually correlated to their success (or lack thereof). Hope no one takes this as a knock on their school/community, as they were one of my favorite teams to follow in the Lexington area (started with the Tino Washington, Jaron Jones and Co.'s battles with Henry Clay's Boyd, Dunaway, Turnage, etc. and then followed them closely through Mack's years). This is just an observation of mine after having seen over 25 of their games during those years. In the better years, this was seeing a disciplined press absolutely rattle opponents (which is saying something in Lexington-Fayette public school games); in other years, I observed a lot of talking back to coaches, coming to a game to find a player had been suspended, etc.

In hindsight, I think Mack's ability to lead them both on and off the floor was critical to their success. That, along with their having a guard who could quaterback the team and be a "coach on the floor" so to speak (i.e., Washington, then Mack) is most likely what I would point to as really distinguishing their great teams from the others.

Is Tino Washington related to Marcellous Washington? With Larry Morton graduating I expect Marcellous to truly shine next year.

I'm not sure losing Morton will help Washington. He is a very good shooter, but probably will receive a lot more defensive attention this year.

Losing Smith will hurt them as well, but I think they still have solid core of players that will keep them competitive. I doubt they'll challenge for the 11th region title, but depending on the roster turnover at Henry Clay, it could be a pretty wide open region.

I am fairly new to Bluegeass Preps and Fayette Co. basketball in general but a few things I will agree with. Losing kids to transfer and discipline have been a couple of the problems. BUT ..... if The Station could keep their kids at home and if they would accept a little discipline I think B.S. could be a very good program.

I was wondering if anybody could give us a running down on how June went for Bryan Station. I was wondering how was workouts? How the weight room was going? Were the players able to get in on a regular basis and so on? Did anybidy see them play as a team? Camp? Any information would be appreciated.
