Sounds like Boone has had several girls hit their first HR this year. Congrats!

Knotts 1, Stein 1, Palmer 1, Graham 1 and Delaney 2. What is nice is

that they have these five plus two more capable of hitting HR's.

Congrats to those girls. Seems like HR numbers way up this season across the state, probably due to hitting catching up/passing the pitching a little bit, starting to become a hitters game.

I don't know how I fell about that statement bc in a lot of ways I agree, but I can tell you the pitching as a whole in NKY is much improved over where it was just a couple years ago.

She's been on the shelf pitching-wise with a shoulder issue for past few weeks. Don't think it's major. She's still playing CF and hitting like a champ. Anthem won't approve an MRI without 2 weeks of PT (I won't jump on THAT soapbox), so we'll know more early next week. X-rays didn't show anything wrong. Hopefully she'll be ready in time to ambush a couple teams at the end of May, and then roll into the Blue and Black. That's the plan.

 

Male's biggest issue is lack of games. Rain outs have made it tough, as you all know. Only had 19 games, while everyone else around here is closing in on 30. A couple "top" teams (*cough* Mercy, *cough* Eastern)won't reschedule, but they'll pick up games against J-Town and PLD.

Big game at Ballard tonight. I'll post an update for you tomorrow. Hope it's good!!

Lost one very good frosh pitcher for the season with a knee injury, so it'll be a big hit if Jess isn't able to get back in the circle.

 

Weather is cooperating this week. Going to be a challenge getting to 36 without too much wear and tear, cramming May full.

I agree that the overall level has risen. What I haven't seen in my admittedly fewer games I've seen than I used to is the top tier being as dominant. Of course, I use Kirsten Allen as the high bar so there's that....

Yes, I thought about that after the post, but she was by far the expection and not the rule. I didn't see most pitchers from that time but I know there were a couple other good ones. But as a whole the pitching around here has gotten better and maybe that has more to do with the bottom teams more so than the top, still has a way to go but outside of a couple of the bottom teams most teams have girls that can at least compete. Schools like Ludlow, Bellevue, Newport still struggle but all have decent pitching, back a few years ago that would not have been the case.

 

One thing that will be hard to compare is the 43" vs 40" and since more girls are playing summer ball now in the area vs 5 or 6 years ago how much better is the hitting than then (if at all). I would say over Allen's 4 year career if she was pitching at 43" vs 40 she would have had hundreds of less strike outs, that doesn't mean she would have been any less dominant just more girls would have had a chance to put the ball in play.

 

I say that bc Ohio just went to 43" a couple years ago, one of the better pitchers ever in the Cincy area (Emily Anderson) had well over 400 stikeouts her freshman year at 40". Her soph more year she comes back and has somewhere in the 200's. Same great pitcher, era was close to the same but the K's are down and down across the board for pitcher's since the change.
