I checked the site out, a lot of nice information. But I couldn't find any regular season info.

 

Most years he has a list of Final Litkenhouse ratings and/or AP polls. Great site but you have to really go digging and hope the info is there.

Pretty sure Belfry started either 0-3 or 0-4 in 89, then put it together and beat Pikeville before going all the way to barely losing to Highlands. They say Coach Haywood says of all his "so close" teams, that the 89 team was the one he thought would get it the most. That's all stuff I've heard, since I wasn't even thought about in '89 and my momma was a freshman in college, I wasn't around for it.

I know they had 3 regular season losses that year but I don't remember it being 0-3, even though it could have been. They opened with a loss to Bell Co in the Pike County Bowl, and they lost to Breathitt in their district game. I can't remember who the other loss was to. If they were playing Ironton then the 3rd loss would have been there, but that game was always late in the season.

 

At any rate, I know they were 8-3 entering the playoffs as a 2 seed (only top 2 teams made the playoffs then)

 

They dominated Ashland in the first round of the playoffs, then beat Breathitt County in round 2 to set up the semifinal game with Highlands. All 3 of those games were on the road, I remember them well.
