Derby Classic 4/19

Featured Replies

The Derby Classic will be played tonight in Louisville. Troutman was added this week due to a player from Califorina not able to attend.

Will this be on TV anywhere? Would love to watch it.

^ That must be a couple weeks old now. Like you said in the first post, Rusty Troutman has been added, so has Dominique Hawkins. Also two guys coming to the University of Louisville as walk-ons: David Levitch of North Oldham High School and Dillon Avare of Lexington Catholic.

I'll be in attendance tonight. I've never been to a Derby Festival game before and I'm really looking forward to it.

The finals of the three-point and dunk contest will be at halftime of tonight's game. The preliminaries were at Floyd Central high school last night.

I don't know each of the four players in each final, but I know that Louisville commit Anton Gill is in the dunk contest finals and that -- for reasons I don't yet understand -- Louisville's 6-9 power forward commit Akoy Agau is in the three-point finals.

I went to the Derby Classic in 1990. Among the players that year were:

Damon Bailey, Anthony Cade (best player BY FAR that game), Penny Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn, Dwayne Morton, Eric Montross, Tremaine Wingfield, Greg Minor, Cliff Rozier.

Had a blast.

Agau can shoot...

The Derby Classic games are usually a really good time. I may make it out there tonight.

Agau can shoot...

I've already heard some comparisons to Rakeem Buckles, although I'm wary given Buckles absurd athleticism. When healthy, Buckles was unreal. I can only hope Agau is of that mold.

Five Indiana commitments combine for 60 points in Kentucky Derby Festival Classic

The IU recruits combined to score 60 points for the Black team, which defeated the White 124-113 before 10,205 fans in the 40th edition of the all-star game at Freedom Hall.

Louisville signee Anton Gill wowed the crowd in his future college town by winning the slam dunk contest at halftime, and he finished with 13 points for the White team.

U of L walk-on commitment Dillon Avare of Lexington Catholic - who at 5-11 and 140 pounds was the smallest and least-heralded prospect in the game - won the 3-point contest.

Agau had two points and nine rebounds for the White. David Levitch, a U of L walk-on commitment from North Oldham, didn't score in four minutes of play but won the game's Fan Favorite award.

University of Kentucky-bound Derek Willis of Bullitt East had six points - all during a strong second half - four assists and seven rebounds. One of his assists was a darting pass to high school teammate Rusty Troutman, a Bellarmine signee, who laid the ball in for two of his seven points.

UK signee Dominique Hawkins, Kentucky's Mr. Basketball winner, had four points.

Keith Frazier, a McDonald's All American who is headed to Southern Methodist, was the White team MVP, with 18 points. Kansas-bound Conner Frankamp and Louisiana State recruit Jarell Martin had 20 points each to lead the White.
