One more reason why NKY fastpitch suffers.

Featured Replies

I got this idea after seeing shelbycatfans post about the E-Town Complex.

One more reason why NKY fastpitch suffers, as a whole......The severe lack of the proper facilities for these girls to play on. There are COUNTLESS fields designed solely for boy's baseball, but you can't find, with a search warrant, a single field (minus some HS fields) for the purpose of girls fastpitch. How the hell is this game going to get promoted in this area if we can not have the proper fields to play on, and I'm talking NKY as a whole. It would be nice if we could get one or two cities in Boone, Kenton, or Campbell, with the land to do it, to build some fields or a group of fields specifically for girls fastpitch.

Any thoughts how and where we go from here?

Why would the field help develop pitchers and hitters?

And not just softball fields but regulation softball fields for fast pitch!

That's what I implied when I said "proper facilities".

It would not, however alot of girls fastpitch teams are relegated to practicing on baseball fields that they have to play "second fiddle" to when it comes to field usage because of baseball practice and league games. A fastpitch field or complex would help in a big way. Plus, playing on a baseball field the infield and outfields are way bigger, than a regulation fastpitch field.

Not sure if it would help or not but some areas that have softball only facilitys seem to do better in softball. I know there have been several of us on this board that have been lucky enough to play at Warner Park in Chattanooga TN. It's heaven for softball fans, has I believe 5 softball only fields that are well keep and also has UT Chattanooga stadium there that they open up and play on.

Last season we went to Sioux Falls SD for the ASA Nationals and even as nice as their fields they were still multi purpose. I don't know how baseball classifications work but the 10 fields they had there could be used by both. The permanent fences were 250ft. Also it will take a culture shift that softball is not a part time sport.

When the Xplosion went to Florence, SC last July it was a 4 field fastpitch only complex, 200 ft. fences, plus to practice diamonds.

I'm confused. What is really different between a baseball and fast pitch field? A u10 baseball team using the field at Freedom Park (park in Edgewood with 1 field) is no different than a u10 fast pitch team using the field. Just because a field doesn't have "official" home run fences, it doesn't take away from the development of the game.

IMO, NKY doesn't suffer from the lack of facilities. It suffers from the number of separate leagues. There isn't the interest there to hold 5 or 6 recreational leagues in NKY for fast pitch softball right now. At the Yard, NKYA, KCYS, Covington, and Campbell county are all trying to house their own leagues, and all suffer with lack of numbers. Even the select teams are struggling to get league play going.

"girls fastpitch teams are relegated to practicing on baseball fields that they have to play "second fiddle" to when it comes to field usage because of baseball practice and league games". At least in my neck of the woods that's the case.
