9th Region catchers

Featured Replies

If you had to guess LB how hard does this young lady throw. If she is 63 to 65 mph plus (that's what I would consider a cannon) and a quality catcher she would be D1 type material.

We have a catcher in the Bandit org (Miranda Calvin) who is going to Ok St she has by far the best arm I have seen. My kid has a well above avg arm and I am for sure she throws alot harder from her knees than Maddy can standing up. She is real fun to watch.

Maybe you can figure this out? She was at the UK camp a few weeks ago and her throws from home to 2nd were in the range of 1.75 to 1.83 seconds. How good is that? :idunno: Don't think they had radar gun on her.

No clue about those times....is that her pop time if so it sounds really good.

Yes.

If that is the case she must be REALLY good to be that young. What's her name?

Lexi Snelbaker saw her catch 7 games in 2 days at the 12u ASA "A" eastern nationals. Our other catcher got hurt. She has a good arm and very solid and can put a hurting on the ball.

Pop times like that would put her in the very top tier of catchers......

If the rest of her abilities are like her pop times than D1 college should be no problem

Since Clyde started one about the pitchers lets go around the horn and rate every position, maybe we can do 1 or 2 a day. Also the pitchers get all the pub!!

A little twist so we get more players names out there, if you mention one from your team or school you have to mention one from another school that way more girls are being named.

Grace Herrman, senior Holy Cross. Grace is one of the better athletes playing softball. She understands the game and receives the ball really well. She has a good arm and should be one of the top hitters in the area. Now lets hope she catches.

Brooke Garrett, Junior (i think) Dixie. Brooke is also a very good athlete, and has a very strong arm. Brooke has been playing softball for a long time and I would think will be one of Dixie's better hitters.

Just curious about the catcher now at HC. Can she play another position? Pretty sure Herrman can play anywhere and play well. Would it be that great of an advantage to have her catch?

I know what you are saying and for years she did play other positions bc her sister was a quality cather. IMO cather is the second most important positon behind pitcher so you want to be strong back there. If HC had another quality catcher I would be all for having her play another position. The girl that caught the majority of the innings last season can not play another positon and at a school that had any type of tryout or if she didn't have a family member as a coach I can't picture a situation where she would make a JV team much less be the starting catcher for varsity.

Was looking at numbers from the NFCA camp held at the Ohio stingrays tourney last summer. Looks like your catchers numbers stack up real well against the girls who attended.

Finke can flat out hit and has "wheels" to boot.

Kristen has a cannon for an arm, throw out 16 of 29 last year as a frosh. I'd put her arm up against anyone in the 9th.....boys included. :sssh: Just a little sarcasm in that one. :D

Does Finke play travel ball? If so who does she play for? Who does Koors, Garret and Schreiber play travel ball for? I know Quillen plays for the Naturals.

You always did take the easy way out!

I agree on Schreiber and Quillen, they are overlooked alot.

Both these girls are sophmores and are entering their second seasons behind the plate at the varsity level.

The Schrieber Girl from NC is very good! She has a rocket on her shoulder and you had better not fall asleep at first or third or she will pick you off in a blink of an eye! I am sure her bat will improve this year she has a great work ethic!

Quillen is a blur on the base paths that little girl can fly! I am sure her defensive stats will improve with a improved pitching staff of Spencer and Leighty!
