9th Region catchers

Featured Replies

Since Clyde started one about the pitchers lets go around the horn and rate every position, maybe we can do 1 or 2 a day. Also the pitchers get all the pub!!

A little twist so we get more players names out there, if you mention one from your team or school you have to mention one from another school that way more girls are being named.

Grace Herrman, senior Holy Cross. Grace is one of the better athletes playing softball. She understands the game and receives the ball really well. She has a good arm and should be one of the top hitters in the area. Now lets hope she catches.

Brooke Garrett, Junior (i think) Dixie. Brooke is also a very good athlete, and has a very strong arm. Brooke has been playing softball for a long time and I would think will be one of Dixie's better hitters.

Koors from Cooper IMO is the best all around in NKy. She hits and plays great defense. The Finke girl from NDA is an excellent hitter and will be noticed more for her catching having Smith throw to her. Although not 9th region but from NKy is Baugh from SK. She will be starting her third year behind the plate and has a better than average bat.

I'm a little biased but agree with DH...Koors is best 9th region catcher & can flat out smoke the ball with her bat. If Baugh were in the 9th she'd be right there at the top too & she's only an 8th grader. Great things to come from her!

Praying Hermann gets to catch at HC!! It'll be a shame if she doesn't.

Anyone know who will be cathcing for Boone County this year? Heard their young catcher from last year transferred to St. Henry.

I agree with those mentioned, Garrett - Dixie, Koors - Cooper, Finke - ND. I will take your word on the Herrman girl, but since she didn't play last year I will have to see her play this year to add her to my list. Since she didn't play high school ball last year how long has it been since she has played? Did she play any summer ball? Could be rusty but since she is such a great athlete I am sure she will make the necessary adjustments and will be very good. I would also agree with the Baugh girl from SK. I know she is not in the 9th but definfitely a very good catcher, and only an 8th grader. I would also add Quillen from Highlands and Schreiber from NewCath to the list. To be honest you could also add Smith from ND to the list. While she is one of the best pitchers she is also a very good catcher.

Sounds like a good list so far. Will give me something to look out for at games!! Unfortunately even though my kid has been playing for many years in HS I don't really know to many kids exp by name so it will be fun to watch.

No Herrman has not played travel ball since 14U and last played HS part time her sophomore, that being said I have very little doubt that she won't either be the top catcher in the area or one of the top. I guess until she shows up at practice there is a chance she doesn't play. I know she was trying to play college soccer some where so that could possible keep her from playing.

I agree on Schreiber and Quillen, they are overlooked alot.

Having a daugther who was fast and left-handed and loved to bunt , I'm always surprised when a team puts a bigger and slower girl behind the plate. Seems like an athlete position to me.

There is an 8th grader at Conner who I would put with anybody mentioned here.

They also have a sophomore.

Tend to agree but in softball now a days everyone wants the big bat so they will play. If you have a couple slow girls you have to play a couple somewhere. All things equal I would rather have a slow catcher than a slow 3B or 1B

If that is the case she must be REALLY good to be that young. What's her name?

Add me to the list, Jess can put a serious "hurtin'" on the ball.

Finke can flat out hit and has "wheels" to boot.

Kristen has a cannon for an arm, throw out 16 of 29 last year as a frosh. I'd put her arm up against anyone in the 9th.....boys included. :sssh: Just a little sarcasm in that one. :D

If you had to guess LB how hard does this young lady throw. If she is 63 to 65 mph plus (that's what I would consider a cannon) and a quality catcher she would be D1 type material.

We have a catcher in the Bandit org (Miranda Calvin) who is going to Ok St she has by far the best arm I have seen. My kid has a well above avg arm and I am for sure she throws alot harder from her knees than Maddy can standing up. She is real fun to watch.
