What teams have been practicing?

Featured Replies

there are rules and there are "loopholes" some schools find them and others follow rules to the letter. Looking forward to watching some good games this spring. I thought Quillian was also a pitcher at Highlands? She was when she was younger? Staying in shape is never a bad thing.

not pitching. Outstanding catcher and defensive player wherever you put her. very exciting player to watch. Small, but can hit too. I think she leads off for her summer team and will for highlands. can fly! tough out!

She is also a great kid! She gives it 100% at everything she does on the field.

am I stupid, or isn't organized practice not allowed before tomorrow? Conditioning, I can see, but these teams have been batting, tossing, etc. since school started???

I wouldnt be so hard on myself TOF. It pays to know the rules, all of them...:thumb:

I think for the schools large enough this is a huge advantage over the smaller schools where kids have to play multiple sports...

Case BL-25-8- Is there a designated “tryout” or

conditioning period for KHSAA sports for member

schools?

No. Tryouts are an organized or semi-organized means of

selecting team members for the coming season. Provisions

of that rule stipulate a beginning date for practice, which

implicitly prohibits practice during the school year prior to that

date. Tryouts are considered to be part of organized practice

and shall be held during the official practice period spelled out

in Bylaw 25. Nothing can be required between the first day of

school and the first legal date for practice.

There is also no “conditioning period” as some coaches seem to

erroneously tell kids and parents. Student-athletes cannot be

held accountable for missing this time outside of the limitation

of seasons and cannot be made to “make-up” missed activity

as it cannot be required.

Case BL-25-14- What are the restrictions during the

school year outside of the defi ned Limitation of

Seasons (off-season) when the school’s team members

are participants or school coaches are involved?

The “off-season” is the period during the school year for each

sport or sport/activity that is outside the defined start and end

dates for the sport or sport/activity as detailed in Bylaw 25.

The restrictions begin on the first day of school and end on the

earlier of the day following the last day of school or May 31.

Activity during the off-season by member school coaches has the

following continuing restrictions:

2) Participation in any activity may not be mandatory for the

students and there may be no penalties assessed, expressed

or implied for non-participation;

Thanks for the clarification:) I wish our school #1 coaches who had time to work with the girls off season #2 an AD that advocated for ANY girls sport and #3 gym time in the off season....just a little rant there. I know our coaches do the best with the time they have and the facilities they are allowed...no complaints there. Just wish these girls were given the same priority as the boys...we have three girls, so been there, done that:)
