Owsley County 87 Powell County 83 OT

Owls win behind the 39 points and 14 rebounds of Izaiah Allen. What makes Allen's performance more impressive is he sat out about 8 minutes of the game in foul trouble. Marcum for Powell had 34 points with 5 treys.

Well I was hoping Powell would win so Estill would have the 1 seed. Professor what happens if Owsley beats Estill by 5+ Friday, how does that work? I know if Owsley wins by 3 or less or if Estill wins then Estill grabs the 1 seed.

If Owsley beats Estill by 5 or more it would give both them a 4-2 record but Owsley would have the advantage on the point system. What's Lee's record. I know the Owls split with them but they have us on the points, so they would be in front of us, that is if their record ie 4-2 and assuming Owsley's possibility of winning over Estill Friday.

Lee is 4-2 but Estill holds the tiebreaker (Estill won 71-66 in Beattyville, Lee won 78-75 here) but Lee holds the tiebreaker against Owsley.

I talked with Estill's Athletic Director about a week or so ago about the district tournament, this is what he told me

Depending on how the girls district turns out it could be a girl/boy on Monday (Feb. 18) and a girl/boy on Tuesday (Feb. 19) Boys Championship on Thursday (Feb. 21), Girls Championship on Friday (Feb. 22) but if the girls district turns out to be different (seeding) then it would be a boy/boy on Monday, girl/girl on Tuesday. Boys Championship on Thursday and Girls on Friday.

I'm not sure, but if 3 way tie, and 1st tie breaker doesn't work, don't they use record against other region team? Do you know for sure, professor? District is a toss-up, but edge to Estill since in their gym, although that doesn't seem to mean much this year.

I'm not really sure how that works. If it's 2 teams that are tied and the points that they beat each other is also tied, then it goes to a coin toss. But I dont know how it would work with a 3 way tie. I've been around the scene since the seeding system was voted in back in the early 1980's and I don't remember ever seeing this scenario ever happen before. Of course, if Owsley doesn't win by 5 or more over Estill Friday then it really doesn't matter, Estill will be the #1 seed, Lee at #2, Owsley 3, and Powell 4. But if the Owls take care of business Friday then it throws it into a situation that I don't recall has ever happened in the 56th. Lee would have the #1 seed over Owsley but not over Estill. Owsley would have the #1 seed over Estill but not Lee. Estill would have the #1 seed over Lee but not Owsley. There would be 3 #1's under 3 different situations. Rare.

I'll see what I can find out and post it.

Okay, just made a call and here's how the seeding is determined if there's a 3 way tie. In the case of a 3 way tie then the "winning by X amount" system is thrown out and it goes to a blind draw system. So, it really doesn't matter if Owsley wins by 1 Friday or by 20. There would be 3 teams with identical records that have split games during the season with one another. It has happened once before, in the 2001 girls tournament, so there is precedent.

If my math is correct, 11 district games, (estill and owsley being the 12th), total point differential 23, eight overtime periods. Three pretty even teams.
