10th Region: Top 5 Performers (Weeks 5 & 6)

Featured Replies

Here is our every-other-week 10th Region Top 5 Performers list. The rankings below reflect Weeks 5 & 6 of the basketball season. Enjoy the list & tell us where we're right or wrong. thumb[1].gif

#1- Omar Prewitt (Montgomery County)- In addition to scoring his 2,000th career point in a December 27th win over East Carter, Prewitt posted the following eye-popping stat sheet in a 15 point victory at Pendleton County: 32 points, 12 boards, 8 blocks, 6 assts, & 4 steals. In the five games Prewitt played these last two weeks, the senior star averaged 23.8 ppg & 7.8 rpg.

#2- Justin Saunders (Bishop Brossart)- Because of Brossart's balanced attack, the senior swingman doesn't often put up gaudy scoring numbers. But the 6'2" forward bookended weeks 5 & 6 like this: 27 points, 6 rebounds, & 4 steals in a win over Oldham County. And in a highly important, highly emotional contest with arch-rival Campbell County, Saunders poured in 30 points & pulled down 7 rebounds. Oh yeah, he also scored his 1,000th career varsity point in the same game.

#3- Mason Monroe (Pendleton County)- He's done his thing for so long that it's almost like we forget about him, but the 5'10" senior notched a pair of 18 point games vs. Oak Hills & Bracken County before firing in 37 points & dishing out 5 assists in a home loss to regional powerhouse Montgomery County. Monroe is 7 points away from officially becoming the school's second all-time leading scorer (we say "officially" because it is believed Monroe has already earned the #2 spot, but insufficient records from the past have made the issue a bit difficult). Regardless, the senior guard is 107 points away from reaching the 2,000 point milestone. The school's top mark, however, will be out of reach as Talbert Turner's 3,183 points seem insurmountable.

#4- Brent Bach (Augusta)- The Panthers' go-to-guy couldn't have started weeks 5 & 6 in more impressive fashion. Bach ignited a furious 4th Quarter comeback, scoring 19 of his game-high 35 points in the final eight minutes en route to a 66-63 win over Iroquois. In the same game Bach also scored his 1,000th career point. In Augusta's only loss during this two-week span, the junior guard scored 21 points & pulled down 10 boards vs. Boone County. His six game scoring average these last two weeks was 23.5 ppg.

#5- Corey Holbrook (Campbell County)- The junior guard continued to do his part in lieu of Nate McGovney's absence, scoring 25.3 ppg in three games during weeks 5 & 6. The highlight came in a January 2nd 67-62 victory over Mason County when Holbrook dropped 38 points, including six 3-pointers.

Well said, RP. :thumb:
