Estill 77 Powell 73 OT

Featured Replies

Powell gave us a good scare but we won in OT. Dixon & Berryman both played ok and Powell just played good ball. I was suprised, as the players were I think, at how good that they played. Good game to watch.

Powell did play very well. They are well coached and so is Estill. Coach Tiller did a great job tonight . Great atmosphere between 2 couties who would now claim each as their biggest rival. I believe this puts the Estill in a showdown in Beatyville for the district #1 seed. Does anyone up the road have any idea how solid the 56th district is?

No because of the poor early season play of Powell and Owsley. Sad really...but we just have to make them know. Good game though, you are correct. If we win in Beattyville by 4 or more, we take the #1 spot in the district.

I think Owsley has to prove themselves. They are playing better now, and put a serious scare in Hazard last night, and beat Powell Tuesday.

One way for Owsley County to establish themselves as a player in the region mix is to defeat June Buchanan next Wednesday in the All A and set up a semifinal game with either Lee or Jackson.

To be honest, I feel Owsley's season didn't really start until Robert Smith became eligible in January. And evidently Powell is improving every game. The 56th will be a solid district from top to bottom by tournament time.

Because of seeding, and because of the teams usually being so close, I will have to say that the 56th is the hardest for a team to get out of.

Having been around while estill was in the 40th, I am very glad they chose to move to the 56th. Evry year there is at least a chance even i the down years. Estill has had some decnet talent in recent years but ran into the Montgomery Clark roadblock. This is a great district to compete in. Very balanced

Agree great move for Estill...they should do well in thier new district. :thumb:

Powell is playing good right now and will be tough at districts. The 56 district may be one of the worst to get out of Ronnie, I agree. Good job estill

I had posted this first, what happened to my post? Guess my posts aren't important. LOL. Score was 75-71.

With Buckhorn much improved (lost to PCC by 4 last night) the 54th district will be tough to get out of. Leslie County, Perry Central, or Hazard would all have legitimate shots at winning three in a row in the 14th if they get out.

Alot will depend on the draws in the 53rd, 54th, and 55th since none of these districts seed. There is a possiblility that KCC, LCC, and JBS could all end up in the same half of the bracket in the 53rd, leaving Cordia and Jenkins playing for a spot in the regional tournament. Either Jackson, Wolfe County, or Breathitt County will get to play Riverside for a trip to the regional tournament, the other two will play each other. There are no teams that are a sure thing to get out of the district.

This game had a playoff atmosphere. Estill was down 11 with 4 minutes to go when Powell tried to take the air out. Steady nerves and big defensive plays down the stretch helped Estill to come out on top. Powell is one of, if not the top defensive team in the 14th. Teams earn every basket against them. They will be a tough out come district time. This game shows just how tough the 56th tourney will be. No one is safe. Dixon and Berryman worked hard for every basket, but showed that they are 2 of the best players in the 14th. On a side note anyone know how Estill's #50 is? He is a starter and went down with an ankle injury in the first half and didn't return.

Powell does that a lot. (get up 6 or 7 and try to take the air out) I think they are 0 for the past 3 years when they try to do that. It was a great game however. Kudos to Estill Co. and the great duo of Dixon and Berryman.
