I said I thought it would be close or Boone win. So who's number 1 now?

Minus Nikki Kiernan & Alexus Mayes, I just witnessed the worst shooting and rebounding for a NewCath girls game in quite some time, as the Lady Breds were PATHETIC at best!!!:puke:

 

Kiernan scores 10 of the Breds 14 1st quarter points and then Boone County double teams her and the Breds start launching 3's to no avail, and to top it all off, had no one under the basket to rebound the miss. If they shot over 20% for the game I'd be shocked!!! After 3 quarters of play Kiernan had 18 and Mayes the other 9 NewCath points. So. point guard Michaela Ware was saddled with 4 fouls midway thru the 3rd and the Bench was ZERO help. Lewis, a 3 for the game, Davenport, 0 for the game, Ware, 0 for the game, Zimmerman, Neace, & Seibert likewise. Kiernan had 2 three's in the 4th and Mayes 2 lay-ups in an effort to get the Breds in striking distance, but the lack of offensive rebounding and the bench's inability to produce was the downfall. The bench has capable players but they just did not get it done tonight.

 

Hats off to Boone County for making the early adjustment. The gamble of doubling up Kiernan and leaving a shooter open paid off because the Breds couldn't it the ocean if they were standing on the beach!!

 

When the girls play good I will sing their praise, however play like what I witnessed tonight and it's not going to be good. They need to put this game behind them and learn from this one. Every team will have "one of those games", this was one for the Breds tonight.

Could credit be given to Boones defense for the Breds bad shooting night? I wasnt there but I would not be surprised if it had a lot to do with it. I have seen Boone play this year and they play a very good and stifling man to man defense. They make everything hard. Passes are hard, running your offense is hard and getting it inside cleanly is hard. If the ball can't go inside first and come back out, three point percentages go way down. Not getting the ball inside would hurt NewCath on the perimeter.

Boone did a GREAT job of denying.

 

Stephanie Lewis, Sarah Neace, Ansley Davenport, & Mikayla Seibert are EXCELLENT shooters and had great looks at the basket, however last night was not their night. It was just one of those games that nothing would find it's way in the basket. I think the bigger issue was the lack of offensive rebounds, everytime a shot went up there was no one underneath.

Wow, this is what the young guns do when faced with pressure from a solid High School Program? Very odd that ALL of the "shooting" players choked under pressure with shooting. Hope they find the Hoop when they face Brossart or it will not be pretty.

Don't let one game fool you. Boone played man to man defense for only a few minutes as NewCath took the lead early. When they went to a box in one, NewCath struggled. Once this young team get confortable playing against a zone defense they'll be fine.
