This was a 5 point game with about 6:30 left to play. Score was 49-44 Augusta, but then the Panthers finished the game on a 20-4 run, thanks in large part to Bracken County's inability to handle Augusta's pressure & also because the Panthers started connecting from long distance.

Conversely, the Polar Bears consistently missed shots. Open shots. Wide open shots. It's not an exaggeration to say Bracken County left 20 points out there in the form of under the basket FG attempts. They were also 7-15 from the charity stripe. For the most part, this team plays pretty solid & aggressive defense. But offensively, it isn't pretty for my Polar Bears. They play hard & run some nice stuff, but they just don't finish.

Bach leads Augusta with 30. 19 of those points came in the 2nd half. Austin Freeman also had a nice game, finishing with 15. Senior Tanner Kelsch added 12.

Bracken County was led by Nate Haight, who scored 8 of the team's 10 1st quarter points & finished with 13. Eli Florer had 10 or 12...not sure b/c I can't read my own writing. Austin Ray had 11, including three 3's.

This game was almost a carbon copy of the District Tournament last season, when the game was tied starting the 4th quarter & Augusta pulled away to win that one by 13.

Couple of other tidbits...Augusta is my second favorite gym to watch a ball game (behind the Fieldhouse). They also have an outstanding concession stand, except that popcorn needed a little more salt. Junior Parker & brother-in-law Parker both felt this way as well. And then finally, in my very humble opinion, Bracken County's best player is an 8th grader. Austin Crawford is going to be very, very good.

Wait until they teach you connected writing at Warren G. Harding Elementary. Reading your own writing just may become a veritable hell.

Pretty sure I saw the Nicholas County coaching staff in attendance. Poor guys had to stand up in the balcony most of the night.

True on all accounts. Can't speak for the popcorn - gets under my plastic teeth and causes problems.

Austin Crawford is a good looking 8th grader who is going to be a fine player and will make a name for himself over the next four years.
