10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 2)

1) You could spend a week researching the annals of 10th Region basketball & be hard-pressed to find a better back-to-back scoring performance than what Brent Bach of Augusta achieved in road contests with Pendleton County (Thursday) & Bourbon County (Saturday). The 6'0 junior poured in 45 points in his team's 102-89 loss to the Wildcats & very nearly matched that effort with 41 points in an 82-60 win over the Colonels.

2) The 45 points on Thursday night wasn't the only story out of Falmouth. Mason Monroe of Pendleton County torched the nets himself, scoring 39 points in leading his Wildcats to victory. Perhaps more impressive than the 39 points was the 16-23 field goal shooting performance by the smooth-operating lefty.

3) With Bach & Monroe stealing most of the individual headlines, it was Brad Carr's Scott Eagles who enjoyed the most successful week as a team. Tuesday night saw the Eagles travel to Cynthiana, where senior forward Nick Jackson put up 33 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in an impressive 83-79 victory. On Friday night, Chris O'Hearn's Mason County squad traveled to Covington and faced an aggressive Eagles defense that forced 26 turnovers, enabling Carr's team to earn a 62-51 win.

4) The week's most anticipated game, involving the top teams from the 10th & 11th regions, turned into a Friday night snoozer. Allen Feldhaus, Jr. & his Madison Central Indians dominated Montgomery County from opening tip to final horn, winning 78-61. Omar Prewitt's 25 points & 10 rebounds were not enough to overcome Central's 21 offensive rebounds & Montgomery's 10-24 free throw shooting.

5) Staying at the top of the region, Bishop Brossart is the 10th's only team without a blemish on its record. The Mustangs left no doubt about their standing among 10th Region Class "A" schools, easily dispatching Bracken County on Wednesday night (62-29) & St. Patrick the following evening (80-49).

6) It wasn't the greatest week for Bourbon County and first year head coach Robert Goodman. The Colonels traveled to Maysville on Tuesday night and received a 79-39 shellacking from the Royals. The Colonels did manage to eek out a 48-46 victory over Lexington Christian on Friday, but then twenty-four hours later suffered a 22-point defeat at the hands of Augusta. It doesn't get any easier for the Colonels in Week 3, as they play host to Happy Osborne's Montgomery County squad on Wednesday.

7) Defending regional champ George Rogers Clark is still seeking its first victory in 2012-13. The Cardinals have faced a daunting schedule, in addition to having been bitten by the injury bug. Scott Humphrey's crew will have a good chance at that elusive first victory on Tuesday night at Paris.

8) Campbell County has also experienced injury problems, namely with standout swingman Nate McGovney. We are told the injury is a "slight hairline fracture of the tibial plateau" (h/t afi100guy) & is expected to keep the star sidelined for at least two more weeks. Aric Russell's Camels were competitive, in spite of McGovney's absence, giving Dixie Heights all it wanted in a 65-58 loss on Saturday.

9) Harrison County spent the week at .500, starting with the previously mentioned 83-79 loss at home to Scott. The Breds fell short despite receiving impressive performances from Scott Kendall & Dillon Pulliam, who scored 28 and 22 points respectively. Larry Kendall's squad rebounded on Friday night with a 71-48 victory at 38th District counterpart Nicholas County.

10) Just over a month away from the 10th Region Class "A" Tournament, the nine participating teams seem to have already divided themselves into three groups: The Upper Echelon (Bishop Brossart at 5-0 & Augusta at 3-1), The Middle of the Pack (Nicholas County at 2-2, Bracken County at 2-2, & St. Patrick at 3-3), & The Struggling to Get Started (Paris at 0-4, Calvary Christian at 0-4, Deming at 0-5, & Silver Grove at 0-5). The Class "A" kicks off on January 14th with a Play-In game featuring Bishop Brossart who will square off with Calvary Christian in Carlisle.

Good job Randy.

I like the way you did that. I'm gonna switch mine.

Thanks, but I wouldn't switch anything you've done. Your stuff is solid as it is. :thumb:

I appreciate it. Mine is just too long. Readers get bored after a while.

Les, I don't think I'd tinker with a good thing. I think you're doing a fantastic job.

RP fantastic recap and thanks for the info the other night.
