STRIKE3 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I can't wait until the KY High School Baseball season begins. Let this thread be to discuss your pre-season Top #1-#5 teams in each Region, players to watch, predictions on contenders and key match-ups.
sixtyfeetsix Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 In the 14th region you will have some great competition. Most of the teams are evenly matched. Some players to watch are Robert Smith (pitcher/SS/can play anywhere), also Jason Bowling (catcher/pitcher). These two are Senior's at Owsley County. Both will play College ball somewhere. :ylsuper:
Habakkuk Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 #1 Pikeville.... Arguably the best pitching staff in the 15th. Lost a lot in their lineup however. Returning Chase Huffman - top rated pitcher in the region. Well coached and great feeder program. The old saying goes "To be the best, you have to beat the best." Pikeville is the best until someone beats 'em. #2 Allen Central.... Arguably the second best pitching staff in the 15th. Return 7 starters from a season ago. Hungry for a 2nd region title in 5 years. Returning Freshman sensation from a season ago, Scott Little. Also senior signees, Justin Jacobs and Brock Kidd. Tyler Turner and Nick Music also prove to be factors in this season for the Rebels. #3 Johnson Central... Well coached. Lost a lot from a season ago, but still returning some good pitching. Fyffe and Blanton will definitely be factors. Coach Hall will have JC ready. They always good young players ready to step up. Great program. #4 Lawrence County... Great coach. New region. Good players. Looking to make an impact. The Bulldogs will. Lost a lot from a year ago, but just like all good programs they have some good young players. Watch out for LC! #5 Paintsville... At 5th place. New Coach this year (I think... lol.. never know about ol' Charlie... he was the great one.) Some good young players. Daniel Pugh returning. Will have some good pitching and will always be tough. #6 Sheldon Clark... Coach Mike Hall has some good players returning, but lost his ace in Kyle Horn. He always seems to have his team ready though. This year will be no different. #7 Prestonsburg/Betsy Layne... Both are about equal. BL won the regular season district, but will struggle this year. Return key players however and look to make an impact. P-burg has Hamilton and Rodebaugh. Good pitching can help a lot. Shelby Valley, Belfry, Pike Central, East Ridge will all make an impact as well. These teams are well coached, especially East Ridge under Kevin Justice. Look for these teams to pull some upsets. Magoffin County, Phelps are on the edge. Teams can go either way. Phelps has some good young players. Look for them to move up. Magoffin is in the toughest district possibly this side of the KY River. South Floyd... a league of their own right now... 3 wins last season and they lose their best pitcher. Not saying they will be bad... but they have their work cut out for them... I would like to see them do well.. and move up. GL Raiders!
STRIKE3 Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 Beechwood Henry Clay LCA Boyd County Southwestern Christian County PRP Eastern E'town ....just too name a few teams, that will be very good and contenders again. Looks to be another great year.
KIDS FAN Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Christian County just reloads and comes at you again. Should be some great baseball at Applebees this year and around the state in general. The 11th will be loooooaded.

The 11th will be loooooaded....The Region had 7 teams with 20+ wins and 3 of those, had 30+ wins...and a few others will get better. Pitching will be needed in this Region, to win on any given night.
Diamond Dandy Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 9th Region 1- Ryle 2- Cov Cath 3- Beechwood Should finish in that order
STRIKE3 Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 9th Region 1- Ryle 2- Cov Cath 3- Beechwood Should finish in that order Ryle won 2 of 3 from Cov Cath and lost to Beechwood once last year. Do you see and surprises in the 33rd this season or the 9th Region.
xtrabasehit Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Ryle won 2 of 3 from Cov Cath and lost to Beechwood once last year. Do you see and surprises in the 33rd this season or the 9th Region. Beechwood graduated 3 of it's top 4 pitcher, and didn't hit that well last year.

Actually Ryle Lost 2 of 3 to Cov Cath and only won one and if there was a suprise team i would have to go with St. Henry or Boone. St. Henry is returning a lot of talent and so is Boone they could contend. Maybe you could even throw Conner in there too. We will just have to wait and see!!

True...Ryle lost 2 to Cov Cath, one in 9 innings and they won one. They lost to Beechwood in 9 innings. Keep in mind that was when Ryle was starting 5 sohpmores, the entire infield as a matter of fact This year Cov Cath and Beechwood will be with out all but one starting pitcher each as well as their big sticks so I really like the Raiders odds against both teams this year

Saw a kid play summer ball this year going to Catholic that wasa lefty and about 6'5". Throwed it hard but didn't have a good second pitch when I saw him. Any info?

Any info?Madison Central, Lafayette and Dunbar will again be good. Look for Madison Southern to have a good team, they have several good underclassmen. I believe the lefty from Catholic is Nick Maronde (hope I spelled correctly), he's a good one and still young. One of the best Regions, in my opinion.
