Who were the top players in Raceland football history and why. Stats would be appreciated.

Aaron Pettrey comes to mind, instantly.

Pettry is a good start, he currently holds two state records: Longest field goal and highest completion percentage for a season. Obviously kicked at Ohio State, but had many other offers to play QB and WR at smaller D1, D2, and NAIA schools. And kicked in a few NFL games.

 

James Boggs has to be mentioned. Stats? I don't have but I know he had two thousand yard rushing seasons.

Mike Salmons holds the record for rushing TD's.

Terry Howell, I never saw him play, but have heard great things.

Scott Speaks, one of the best defensive players I have seen, just had a nose for the ball, earned scholarship to Louisville.

Scott Davison, played a season with the NY Giants before a knee injury ended his NFL career.

Since I have been around the program one name stands out, Bret Denton. If he hadn't played on such a dominant team and shared the backfield with another great back (JS Carver), he would own most all of Raceland's rushing records. He was the Offensive Player of the year 2x in our District. Not bad considering he had to beat out Dominique Hayden for that award.

If I'm not mistaken, he was all state, and yes, a pretty good player.

Yeah, I was on the NewCath team that crushed Raceland's 10-0 team at Raceland. I was also on the team that got blitzed by Raceland at Newport Stadium the next year on the mud pit.

Mike is now a coach at Raceland right? What a great person and I got to watch him play at Raceland and Thomas More. Tell him I said hello Ram and sidelinedoc if you see him. Really miss not seeing or talking to him when he was up here. JD

Played against Denton's dad, it must run in the family, he was a very good linebacker at Fleming Co. in the early 80's
