Capital Gains tax rates do encourage investment, it the Cap Gains rate was as high as earnings rate their would be very little incentive to invest.

If you are to receive a large one time payment for your retirement (Profit Sharing or 401K) you would appreciate the Cap Gains rate, because without it you would be paying top tax rate on your retirement.

Who again are we talking about that made the dream happen?? MR or GWB? Neither one of them rose up the socio-economic ladder to live differently than their parents. Is the American dream now simply being born wealthy and finding a way to stay there?

I wasn't talking about them. I was talking about the millions of small businesses and potential small business owners who end up making it, despite how hard their odds may be, against people such as yourself, those who advocate for similar policies, and the buddy-buddy system we currently have with government and corporations.

And quit acting like Romney wasn't a successful businessman. I'm not going to ridicule someone because they were born in a successful family. Doesn't take away from his talent

Sorry, but I don't get that daily marching orders e-mail from the Dems like you do with the GOP. Besides, I changed my registration a few years ago.

Tell me again, though, how many jobs Mitt Romney has created? Even he admits he enjoys firing people. Democrats don't have it right, but the GOP isn't exactly coming up with any silver bullets to kill our country's current werewolf-sized problems, and I'm far more scared of their "solutions" than the Dems.

I would venture to say you did that so you could tell everyone that your independant and don't take sides...How often have you supported a conservative position versus a liberl position on BGP?

But the big corporations are spending ridiculous dollars in lobbying to make sure the laws are written to make it easier on them, while making it harder for small businesses -- their competition. That's my point, the game is rigged against the small businesses to favor the ultra-wealthy who can afford to pay the lobbyists and politicians to take care of them. And by playing the shell game, they've got the politicians screaming about "deregulate this" and "cut this tax" and convincing small business owners to vote against their own interests and support politicians and policies that don't truly help them. Divide and conquer.

If small businesses are what drives our economy, big business is doing everything in its power to make sure money that might support small businesses instead gets spent with big businesses. Those big businesses are almost never local, and almost always ship their profits several states away (or to the Caymans) instead of them being spent at home where that money can do some good in the local community. It's all about misdirection in terms of who is set up to be the bogeyman.

I never claimed as though I was buying in whole-hog on the GOP. Just that I was fed up with the Dems. And I voted for a Republican for the first time ever a couple years ago.

I have lots of liberal leanings, but have found myself in line with many conservative leanings in recent years. That's why it made sense to change registration.
