GRC will travel to Corbin to kick off the 2012 football season. Your thoughts and predictions.

Interested to see how that plays out as we play both this year. Keep me informed Gold.

With new coach this year, not sure what to expect from the Cards.

Got ya. Creek came out and looked very good in beating Butler in its scrimmage. Very interested and excited for this season. I think Creek will have a very strong year this year. Barring injury, academic issues etc.....

Corbin has a couple of issues they must improve on to have a shot at winning, with the most important being ball security. Corbin is going to be a grind it out kind of team this year and should have a good running attack, but bad snaps, fumbles and penalties will prevent that offense from being effective. The other problem is allowing too many big plays on defense(i.e. last year's GRC game). Corbin has an attacking, gambling defense, with the DB's in man to man coverage and LB's blitzing on most downs, which leads to a lot of big plays for both teams. If they do not miss assignments or tackles, the defense is usually really good though.

I think the running game will be a strong point for the Cards again this year. The line will have to give the backs good openings; as far as the passing goes. I am at a loss on how to judge at this point. Run Defense will be critical for the Cards to have a chance to stop Corbin.

Going to say this one goes down to the wire:

GRC 28

Corbin 21

Corbin will be much better this year. New coach at GRC. I ll go with Corbin 27-12.

I think this could be one of the better opening weekend games. I'll take GRC in a close one.

Agree. Hard to win on the road, but sure hope the Cards pull this one out.

Not like we did last year. Pokey Harris graduated.

CLARK COUNTY

Coach: Steven Collins

Class: 6A

Last year: 3-8 (Lost to Ryle in first round of playoffs)

Top players: Darian Skinner (QB/DB), C.D. Spight (RB/LB), D'Avon Marshall (SB/DB), Sylan Mays (DL), Trevor Satterly (OL/DL), Brent Stoneking (WR), Khmarkis Blanton (WR), Kyle Wipert (WR), Logan Burchett (QB).

Outlook: Replacing Pokey Harris (more than 2,000 all-purpose yards) will be done by "spreading the wealth" according to first-year coach Collins. Skinner, Spight, Marshall, Blanton, Stoneking and Wipert will share the load. Mays and Satterly will anchor the lines. Thirty-one seniors will make for a mature team.

GRC will roll in this one 42-7. Could be a long year for the Redhounds.

I can't see the outcome being anywhere close to this. Corbin returns most of their main defensive players from last year, so they should be improved on that side of the ball. If the offense does not commit several turnovers, this should be a good game.
