Bartels has to be close to being star of the game though, I would think. Kid shut down one of the top ranked teams in the state (and I believe the 2nd or 3rd highest ranked team in the tournament) and apparently threw pitch for pitch with PRP's ace. Coop, my reasoning was the lack of runs that PRP has given up in the District and Regional. If I am not mistaken, they have shut out everybody since the begining of the 2012 KHSAA Tounrey., That is indeed impressive and to have NCC score two runs in the very first at bat without even making an out.....well and the fact that PRP has trouble scoring runs..... Indeed the young man pitched a gem but to me that triple was a deep knife in the heart of PRP and it pumped up NCC big time!

I was give Bartels player of the game as he was outstanding from beginning to end as Wolterman had 2 base running blunders and a dropped pop up. Not getting down on the kid because he played solid other than those 3 things but NCC could've had some breathing room.

Certainly other solid juniors out there this year - Collins, Maines, Maile, etc - but Bartels has to be considered as one of top two pitchers heading into 2013 season. And the other may very well be his teammate Cain. Very, very solid 1-2 combination for NCC. You can do a lot of damage with a pitching lineup like that.

Now now......Dont you two worry too much about stars of the game beacause I know both kids and neither one of them would have any of this talk, just not their style. Sure they appreciate an atta boy here or there but they seemed to be focused on winning this thing this yr.

 

NewCath has sorta been the quiet kid all yr in NKY taking a back seat to the much bigger and proverbial favorites and through excellent coaching and staying grounded they are destined to win out.

 

This is what makes good teams great teams. NewCath has a bunch of stars on this team that pretty much play as a team and at the end of the day this is why they are in the position they are in.
