I truly understand the pitchers in HS fast pitch games wearing a face mask but can someone tell me why at the play at the plate (picture 95) the catcher takes off her face mask? I mean keeping the mask on, even in a hardball HS baseball game, is the safe and the smart way!

Was taught to always to keep mine on as to protect myself from injury on a play at the plate!

 

Quite frankly, if you have got to take it off to see a throw from the outfield, then how do you see to catch a ball thrown from the pitcher? Isn't the reason to wear a mask be it for a pitcher or catcher...to protect yourself from injury?

So it's cool for the pitcher to wear a mask while pitching, the batters to wear their mask to protect themselves but it's not necessary to keep the mask on when there just might be a huge collision at the plate! :ohbrother:

Facemasks aren't required in wiffle ball!!

I can only assume that you can agree that Luke Maile former Ninth Region three time MVP, Kentucky's Mr. Baseball in his senior year, Drafted by the Boston Red Sox's and currently a member of the #1 Ranked University of Kentucky Baseball team is a pretty good catcher. Well take a look at the photo in the Lexington Herald Leader about Maile having such a great game while doubling twice, scoring two runs and tagging out three runner at the plate.

 

Did you notice that he had his mask on!
