Wet field conditions at the field behind the High School (Pendleton's Home Field for 2012) and a missing Pitcher's Mound at Silver Grove resulted in the cancellation.

Hilltopper the game was scheduled at Pendleton and the game was cancelled by Pendleton for what I assume were poor field conditions. There is no "missing pitcher's mound" at Silver Grove. They are putting in a new pitcher's mound and that is why the Silver Grove team is not playing any home games early in the season. You can also couple that with the girls softball team playing at home yesterday against NCC and therefore the field was NOT available for the boys to play. Seriously..........the game is being made up at some point but again the Silver Grove field was in use yesterday by fast pitch softball.

No problem goaheadandjump! I knew that Silver Grove couldn't play at home and the game was scheduled for Pendleton County. With Pendleton County's field behind the school, they need a serious drought for them to even be able to play a home game this season. Even before this afternoon's rain their field still had standing water. I sympathize with the players, parents and coaches of the Wildcats Baseball Team because their home field was moved from Southern Elementary to behind the High School. They all worked their tails off last year to make such improvements at Southern Elementary and it looked great. They even hosted the 38th District Tournament last year. I apologize for the misunderstanding and I do hope they get to play their games.

Part of the new Superintendent's plan to have all athletic events on campus. They played their home games on the field behind the high school for years until renovations to the high school in 2006 made that field impossible to get to. So they played at Southern Elementry's field for 5 years, and have now moved back to their old home field. Many of the renovations made to Southern Elementary's field were with the intent to make that their permanent home field though. I'm surprised they moved as well.

Did the superintendent (Mr. Strong) allocate money for the new field at the high school? It is a shame these kids will lose games because the field is not in proper condition.

They used to have a good groundskeeper too, does he work on the field any or is it left up to the Baseball Boosters, Coaches and Players. I doubt the Football team stripes the field or that the basketball team does repairs in the gym. So sad the Boys of Summer will have to suffer.

Change for the sake of change is not always good. The field behind the school will not draw the crowd and will cost more for baseballs as many will be lost in the woods surrounding the field. Not to mention that with the mild winter, the place will be infested with mosquitos and other bugs. The parents should start a petition to move back to Southern for this year only, go to the next schoolboard meeting or something. If it had been more notice, maybe a new drainage system could have been installed. I always liked the setting behind the school. Know going into this season that next year you will be playing behind the school and LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

The softball field is in town behind the CVS correct? Where is the baseball field? Just down the road on 27 at the elementary school? I am not understanding if the softball team is not moving then why move baseball. Sometimes change is not for the better.

A lot of people are confused with this one. LOL Don't get me wrong I like the field behind the high school and if it is dry they should play there, however if it is wet behind the school and Southern is dry, why not let them play at Southern?

Title IX audit showed baseball field at Southern was in deficit state compared to softball field.

 

Press box, permanent/brick dugouts, and lights that softball had, baseball did not.

In adfition, the field behind high school was established as the permanent home for baseball. When renovation on the high school began 4-6 years ago, move to Southern had to be made because of safety issues as that area was staging area for construction.

 

The plan has always been for baseball to return to that site. As principals, ads, and coaches changed that return had been forgotten.

 

When new Super began the discussion of field improvements that nugget came back to light.

 

Add in the fact that a move back addressed two of the Title IX deficits and it became an obvious decision.

 

It saved thousands for a financially strapped district AND meant didnt have to spend extra by getting Frankforts approval for building permanent buildings on school property.

You're saying that Frankfort would not have given the school another year to prepare the field behind the school, even if they provided Frankfort and plan for the 2013 season. Nope saying since press box and permanent dugouts are structures that would require plans submitted and approved by state that adds $$$ to the process.
