March 10, 201214 yr If X wins the A10 does that have an impact? They're already in. If the Bonnies win it then someone is getting bumped. It opens an at large spot because X is filling one. They move to AQ and an at large opens...
March 10, 201214 yr Author It opens an at large spot because X is filling one. They move to AQ and an at large opens... The at large would be filled by Temple or STL who are already in.

March 10, 201214 yr Do you think Marshall had a shot if they had played Memphis close? Not really sure. Once UC locked up their spot I quit paying attention to the bubble...
March 10, 201214 yr Author If they are already in, then no. The at large would be filled by the 38th team on the board moving into the field... Are we saying the same thing here? Let's use A10 as an example. IMO Temple, SLU, and X are already in regardless of what happens today or tomorrow. So, if X wins nothing changes. X was already in so no one is getting bumped and the two others are still in. Now if the Bonnies win then someone at the bottom is getting bumped. The only way I can see your point is if you're assuming that the committee is not already taking the above into account ie no AQ determined yet so they haven't made any calls on the A10. I don't think that's the case.

The AQ spot is blank so it hasn't been filled yet. If X, STL and Temple are already in the field via the 37 at large spots, then they stay put and the Bonnies fill the AQ open line...
March 10, 201214 yr Author Nope. The AQ spot is blank so it hasn't been filled yet. If X, STL and Temple are already in the field via the 37 at large spots, then they stay put and the Bonnies fill the AQ open line... Right. And whomever today is last on the AQ list gets bumped. Otherwise no other team is playing their way in without winning their tourney.
March 10, 201214 yr Right. And whomever today is last on the AQ list gets bumped. Otherwise no other team is playing their way in without winning their tourney. So you're saying no way 4 teams from the conference get in the tournament?

March 10, 201214 yr Right. And whomever today is last on the AQ list gets bumped. Otherwise no other team is playing their way in without winning their tourney. There is no AQ list until a tournament is won. There are likely 5-8 teams not on the at large list that will make the field as teams move from AL to AQ and spots at the bottom of the bubble open. With 5-8 spots likely to open teams can still play their way in to an AL...

March 10, 201214 yr Author Let's try this. I say the committee has determined that "if the season ended after Friday night here's all of the teams that would be in ." They don't know which of those fills the AQ slot yet but in their minds they know which teams are in. So, if after Friday they didn't have Ole Miss in the tourney (just using them because they're still alive but IMO not in) then Ole Miss can't get in unless it beats Vandy today and KY tomorrow. Failing both Ole Miss is out. It doesn't matter that the committee doesn't know if the AQ is UK or Vandy. They know it will be one of those two barring an upset by Ole Miss. So while they don't know which teams are AQs and which teams will be the ALs they do know the teams that will be in the tourney.
March 10, 201214 yr For example two at large spots will open tonight as the Big 12 and BEast titles are decided. Mizzou, Baylor, UL and UC are all in the at large field. Two will be moved to AQ and the field of 37 AL moves to 35 and needs two replacements...
March 10, 201214 yr Author This explains it... NCAA Tournament Selection Committee Has Its 37 At-Larges, Which Means Nothing Yet - From Our Editors - SBNation.com That interpretation makes the two statements contradictory. IMO they know what teams are in barring upsets in the tourney. It makes sense to me that they would know that already.
