  1. I can't speak for Centre but with the focus on athletics at Thomas More under President Armstrong, the Saints have to schedule the best D3 opponents as possible. They play 8 league games in a middle of the road conference for the Division and so in order to impress the committee, they have to do this. They can't have a game where the result is thrown out by the committee (see above) because that then would highlight the SOS numbers they get drug down by in the PAC.
  2. There aren't any rules against it on the NCAA side. It's just that the committee will throw the game result out and say the team played one less game in the Division, just like they do when teams play D2, and FCS teams. Or in some cases when teams play FBS teams, which a few have. Wesley College beat Charlotte in 2013 and Maryville beat East Tennessee State this past September. Maryville doesn't even receive votes in the Top 25 poll.
  3. Yes I'm referring to Bardo. Agree to disagree but I hope you do realize how much more athletic and sophisticated the game has gotten in D3 since Stormer and Dietz played (which was my era too). I guess it depends on where he went to school, who coached him and also how much he volunteered and what his GPA would've been. All of these are hypotheticals. I guess I'm upset because I see a lot of uninformed opinions here about d3, especially when comparing to NAIA. It's NOT glorified High School Football like some think around these parts. I let a lot of the really ignorant posts go and responded to people like yourself, who I think are just a bit off the mark.
  4. This isn't even close, Mexitucky. They are very evenly matched across the board. When Thomas More was bad in 1998 they played a close game with a bad Campbellsville team. The Top 5 teams in D3 would completely wipe out teams in that conference with Georgetown.
  5. If the kid has good grades, he can get more money from a Division 3 school than he would a partial athletic based grant at an NAIA school. Some would say from a more credible institution, too.
  6. Wrong - Google Morningside vs Whitewater
  7. Again - you are wrong. Even some of the greats who've played at Gtown would tell you so. If NAIA is so great, why are schools leaving to join NCAA Division 3?
  8. You can't say if he would be a finalist for the Gagliardi. First of all - kids who transfer from NAIA to D3 aren't automatic stars. Secondly, the Gagliardi is as much about Community Service and GPA as it is about on field accolades. Division 3 Top 25 programs are very comparable with any NAIA team. Would NAIA teams have great success against teams outside of the Top 25 or 30 - yes.
  9. I really hope TCU beats Baylor again. They simply refuse to stop playing that patsy preseason schedule. Briles is even quoted in a few articles. Come on Art, test your team. They already DON'T play a Conference Title Game.. Or maybe I should just get my satisfaction from seeing the committee refuse to let them finish in the Top 4 for the second year in a row.
  10. Quiet until someone saw its not going to be a banner year in Knoxville - again. Pretty typical stuff. I'm sure some group of donors already have their eye on an other coach.
  11. Which thread? Are you sure it's a legit thread??
  12. Reminds me of Debo (from the movie Friday) while he's on your bike and you can't do anything about it. Why limit this to sports comparisons? What do you guys (and gals) think?
  13. Fixed it for you. They weren't in the B1G for his whole tenure.
  14. If Kuntz is the QB this team will be very tough to beat until tournament time. You regulars know I have had the opinion that you go with the senior but he steadied the team on Saturday in the 3rd Quarter, and the players really believe in him. It's an interesting choice but I'm not so sure they go as far without Kuntz starting. Dude made some legit "Did you see THAT" throws, and is like having another RB in there. Gebhardt missed some wide open reads which resulted in him throwing into some heavy coverage. You can't take the Opening Kickoff in the tournament and throw a pick on your 3rd play. That stuff gets you beat - and this team has the talent to play in Salem, along with having a steadying influence as your HC has coached in many big games in November and December. tl;dr - I'm on the Kuntz for President and Rush Chairman bandwagon now after resisting.
