  1. This seems to be the trend with Ryle baseball... not playing to their full potential and losing games by errors. Wasn't this the problem last year? I have been able to watch quite a few of their games this year and I'm less than impressed. Juniors and Seniors in high school should know their fundamentals by now. You can argue they are playing ranked teams and better teams in NKY, but it seems right now it doesn't take much to be a better team than Ryle. What do they have to do to be a contender in NKY?
  2. Why would he not be happy with this role? I thought the reason he wasn't playing was due to an injury. I think seniors that aren't going to play in college don't play their senior year so they can go on their senior spring break trips and start their summers early. It's really a let down to the younger guys who are counting on their seniors to lead the team. Anyone know yet what seniors will be playing on Ryle's team this year?
  3. I think Ryle needs to experiment a little more with the QB position. Although he's smaller in size than Hempel, I think Lonkard does a real nice job. He's very accurate and has quick feet. Ryle could potentially put together a decent team in 09. They just have to put the right people in the right positions and make intelligent play calls, which was their 08 downfall.
  4. I don't think anyone was a big factor in Ryle's offense last year, but not due to lack of talent. I'm glad to see the coaching didn't hurt someone getting to play at the college level. Congrats to Tate!
  5. I think Elliott definitely has more power at the plate and is overall stronger than Clarkson, but I think his sport is football. Clarkson struggles at the plate but is a better defensive player than Elliott. I might even say he's a better baseball player than Elliott. Both tried out for Colonels and made the team, but I don't believe the younger Freidel tried out. I agree though, Ryle's team should be decent in the upcoming years as Elliott, Clarkson, the Freidel brothers, and Hempel mature.
  6. A different style of offense? I appreciate your courtesy, but his different style is simply not knowing what he's doing. He obviously doesn't have the talent to create or call plays. Just because you love the game doesn't mean you belong on the sidelines or up in the box. I don't know how you can call a 1 yard pass play when you're 3rd and 15 a "different style". Come on. You have juniors and seniors who don't even touch the ball 5 times a game. And it's not because they can't play. How is any offensive kid on that team going to play in college when they don't even have enough plays to put together a decent recruiting tape? If you plan on working in athletics you know what comes with the job. No one is going to pat any coach on the back for losing games they should win. Fans want results. The loyalty goes to the players, not the coaches.
  7. I don't think Ryle has shown even a glimmer of hope to be able to compete at the same caliber of St. X and Trinity. How can the coaching be "on track" but play calling be questionable? A lot of coaching is the play calling and quite frankly, it's embarassing. The coaches don't call timeouts when they should be called, they have players in positions where they don't belong, and they don't use kids often enough who could be a dominant factor this year. I hope you're prediction is right, but I don't see it happening.
  8. Young or not, Ryle still has plenty of talent on that team to be far better than they are right now. Good coaches can take mediocre talent and turn it into something. The Ryle coaching staff can't turn exceptional talent into anything more than a playoff appearance.
  9. I agree. I don't think Ryle has a chance at this one. The coaching has been consistently bad all season so I wouldn't expect them to get smart the last game.
  10. What exactly is your definition of a "solid program"? I would say the St. X's, Elder, Highlands, Beechwood... they all have solid football programs. Ryle on the otherhand had a good couple years. To me a solid program is strong year after year and the coaches are able to make adjustments with the players they have and still win. It's unfortunate that Ryle has the talent on that team and still cannot come out on top. I'd be pretty upset if I were a parent of one of those players trying to continue their football careers after high school who are not getting adequate playing time when they should be. If you don't play and can't put up the numbers, you're not going to be recruited. IMO Ryle is far away from earning the respect around the state as having a solid football program.
  11. Is there anyone on the offensive team that touches the ball a lot? I don't think the offense is in the game long enough to have someone like Quianoo carry the ball 53 times. Anyone have the stats on Ryle's offense? Ryle was outcoached last night, like a lot of the games this year. Players are under-utilized and play calls are terrible. This may be a young team but that's no excuse for the plays that are called. Even in a couple years this team will be battling the same problems if the coaching is the same.
  12. If they have this play, I don't believe they've used it. ...And of course it would only make sense to throw a one-yard bubble screen when it's 4th and 15
  13. The biggest problem with those five awful plays is you know exactly when they're going to call them. It must be so easy for the defensive coordinator on the opposing team to coach. For as much as they practice, it's really embarassing they can't work on something new. The talent is definitely there.
  14. AGREED!!! I wasn't able to make it to the game since it was on a Thurs but caught it on TV. Looked like Coach Warner may have gotten smart the 2nd half and told that offensive coordinator to take a break. The entire 1st half was painful to watch. I think the players could probably call those plays more effectively.
