  1. News and Notes: In the department of not much has changed Trinity is still the top team in the 7th Region. With Jacob King back in the fold Trinity is every bit as powerful now as they were at the beginning of the season when they were without him. With four players averaging double figures in points it will not be an easy feat for any team to knock Trinity out of the postseason. Waggener has added Devin Cooper back onto their team and he is averaging around 23 points a game right now for Waggener. Waggener has gone 2-5 since Cooper has joined the team but they have lost those games to Ballard, Trinity, Fern Creek and Dunbar along with dropping a game to Crispus Attucks out of Indiana. They have defeated a strong CAL team during this stretch so do not let their record fool you. They are still a strong team. Ballard is still Ballard and while they sit on a 21-5 record three of their losses have come at the hands of Fern Creek, the current #1 team in the BluegrassPreps.com Top 20 Rankings. Ballard has won their last four games and will finish the season against three teams from out of state which will no doubt have Ballard fully prepared to handle to rigors of postseason in the 7th Region. St. Xavier, Eastern and Christian Academy-Louisville currently make up the middle of the top 10 of the 7th Region. In the last couple of weeks Eastern has beaten St. Xavier, St. Xavier has beaten CAL and CAL has beaten Eastern so it is officially muddy in the middle. All three will have their hands full trying to defeat the upper echelon of the 7th Region but I wouldn't put it past any of these three teams to pull out a victory or two this postseason. Kentucky Country Day was the 7th Region representative in the All A Tournament this year. While their season hasn't gone as expected they did secure that 7th Region All A title and look to finish the season strong behind the play of Anthony Mathis. 7th Region Rankings: 1. Trinity 2. Ballard 3. Waggener 4. St. Xavier 5. Christian Academy-Louisville 6. Eastern 7. Central 8. Male 9. Kentucky Country Day 10. Manual 11. Seneca 12. Atherton 13. Louisville Collegiate 14. St. Francis 15. Brown 16. Shawnee 17. Portland Christian
  2. News and Notes: Adair County is continuing to roll along this season as they are now sitting on a 24-1 record, 16-0 against 5th Region teams and 6-0 against 20th District teams. They last lost a game on December 19th against Collins on a neutral floor. While some may say that their schedule isn't very challenging they do still have wins over North Hardin and Taylor County in the 2017 calendar year. Kel Stotts has been out the past few games and his return will only make Adair County that much stronger. Bardstown is coming together nicely as they are now 18-5 overall, 10-0 against 5th Region teams and 8-0 against 19th District teams. Bardstown has had a good schedule this season as it is to be noted that all five of their losses have come from out of region teams. Bardstown will face North Hardin this week (February 7th) and will also face Elizabethtown, John Hardin and Pulaski County before they begin the 19th District Tournament. Bardstown will arguably be the most battle tested 5th Region team once tournament play rolls around. North Hardin appears to be getting more and more comfortable with Trace Young in the mix with each passing game. North Hardin is now 19-7 overall, 9-2 against the 5th Region teams and 8-0 against 17th District teams. North Hardin hasn't lost a game since January 12th and look to finish the season strong heading into the 17th District Tournament. John Hardin is sitting on an 18-7 record, 5-4 against 5th Region teams and 5-3 against 17th District teams. It would be easy to write off John Hardin but I just can't quit them yet for some reason. While they have some heartbreaking losses they are showing signs of a team that can be dangerous come tournament time. All a team like John Hardin needs to do is win that first game of their district tournament and I can guarantee they will be one of the teams that no one will want to see at the end of this month and the beginning of March. Do not sleep on John Hardin. Taylor County, Larue County, Bethlehem and Elizabethtown are all teams that have had successful and somewhat successful seasons. While they won't get the fanfare as the previous four teams that I have mentioned it should be noted that if any of these teams are able to make it to the region tournament they are all certainly capable of causing a problem to any team they face. Especially Taylor County. 5th Region Rankings(2-6-17): 1. Adair County 2. Bardstown 3. North Hardin 4. John Hardin 5. Taylor County 6. Larue County 7. Elizabethtown 8. Central Hardin 9. Bethlehem 10. Marion County 11. Nelson County 12. Washington County 13. Fort Knox 14. Caverna 15. Campbellsville 16. Green County 17. Thomas Nelson 18. Hart County
  3. News and Notes: Not much changed this week as Trinity remains #1 in the 7th Region despite losing two of their last three games. Trinity lost to Fern Creek in overtime in the finals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT) and then dropping a tight game to Oldham County. Trinity is still currently the class of the 7th Region and have likely moved on from these past two losses. Ballard made it to the semifinals of the LIT where they lost to eventual champion, Fern Creek. Despite that loss Ballard is till lurking in the shadows of Trinity. At this point of the season the only way Ballard and Trinity will face each other would be in the 7th Region tournament. Waggener lost to Trinity last week and will face Ballard this upcoming weekend. Regardless of these results Waggener has a strong grasp on the #3 spot in the 7th Region. I recently saw on twitter that Steve Bittenbender stated that Waggener's Jaago Kalakon may be the best high school player in Louisville that few people know. Eastern has won 9 of their last 11 games and could possibly be setting themselves up to make a deep run in the postseason by starting to put things together on the court. Louisville Collegiate and Kentucky Country Day are the favorites of this year's 7th Region All A tournament. I do believe that one of these two teams will represent the 7th Region at the All A State Tournament but as we all know that when it comes to high school basketball in the state of Kentucky.................nothing is ever guaranteed. 7th Region Rankings: 1. Trinity 2. Ballard 3. Waggener 4. Central 5. St. Xavier 6. Christian Academy-Louisville 7. Eastern 8. Male 9. Louisville Collegiate 10. Seneca 11. Kentucky Country Day 12. Atherton 13. Manual 14. St. Francis 15. Brown 16. Shawnee 17. Portland Christian
