  1. In my opinion there was nothing "outstanding" about Masons defense tonight. They played good D but nothing spectacular. Several open looks by Elliott simply rimmed out...they normally dont. If you want to talk about defense I think you have to point to the subpar halfcourt defense by Elliott. Mason had plenty of open looks in half court offense and they knocked 'em down....Mason 64% Elliott 31%....

This was the first time I have seen Mason in regular season this year. They are an excellent basketball team. Elliott is above average but does have a few weaknesses....

I guess Hicks' old college roommate called this game? Isnt that the only possible explanation for the foul shot discrepancy? According to Hicks it is....

  3. As I said in my post I was sitting on the top row of the bleachers and that I'm a blind old man, and I said it seemed to be a taunt. I saw him make some sort of jesture toward the young men sitting on the floor. I've never seen an official respond to fans during a game. You may be right, maybe they are all buddies or something. They seem to all be about the same age. How do you know for sure it was a thumbs up and a wink? Were you at the game? If so, what did you think about all the jersey pulling that was going on?

I was at the game and saw for myself......As for the jersey pulling, in my opinion, you are making a mountain out of a molehill.....I know there was some grabbing going on but not as much as you make it out to be.....I also know that not all contact is going to be called a foul. That doesnt mean it wasnt seen by an official it simply means the officials judged it to not be worthy of a whistle. Why interupt the flow of a game with a foul call on contact that really had no impact on the play/game? Dont get me wrong, there were calls missed last night that probably should have been made. Its that way every game, every night, everywhere.......

  4. Another good win for this young group of Royals. The Eagles took the fight too them early, but Rose Hill just wore them out. The Eagles were dragging by the 4th quarter. That Rose Hill press sure does wear those teams down. I agree with LRCW. That young Bush boy was who got Rose Hill going early in the 3rd. He may be the smallest kid on the court, but I'd put his heart up against anybody in the region. He's one hard nosed ballplayer. Speaking of you guys sitting on the floor, I don't know what you did, but you sure seemed to have gotten into the head of that Greenhill official. He seemed to be taunting you guys as he left the floor at halftime. That might have been the most unprofessional thing I've seen from an official in the 16th region. Other than that I thought the officials did a pretty good job other than all of the jersey grabbing and walks they missed. Even this blind old man saw those from the top row of the bleachers. I know it's tough being an official, and these guys are doing their best, but they had to see those jerseys being grabbed.

Question for you DT......How does a wink and thumbs up classify as taunting? If this is taunting then the official you mention also taunted the young lady who sang the National Anthem. I know for a fact that he turned to her, gave a :thumb: and had the audacity to say "Great Job".....What a bad guy....

My point to you and the gentlemen in the corner is that what you percieve to be a big deal was in fact a very minor gesture. In fact when asked about this situation the official in question just chuckled and said, "No big deal....those guys were just having fun."

  5. You are telling me how a golf club works?

I'll stick with what I know about shafts and all the personal experience I have with how different shafts are now.

No I wasnt telling you how a golf club works.........I offered you a suggestion on interesting reading material. Its obvious to me from your earlier comments you could use some enlightenment on the subject but it no skin off my nose if you want to believe everything the big club makers tell you on TV.

  6. It's not really that much of a difference at this point in the game. Everybody has most of the same technology, so they will be pretty close. The difference you may have come across is the weight.

I disagree......It can be a HUGE difference. Every company may have the same technology but there is no one standard for labeling shaft flex. It can and does vary greatly from company to company.....You may want to read a book by Tom Wishon called "The Search for the Perfect Golf Club". Its a great read if you are interested in how a golf club truly works.......

  7. If they go by the rule of tip and no catch and shoot at .3 then yes the call was right. But if they go by the clock, it should have counted. Either way, Hazard came out in OT and took care of business and didn't let the call determine the game.

I dont think anyone was debating the call.....it seems everyone agrees that it was correct..........

  8. From NFHS Rule Book:

Rule 5 Section 2 Article 5........"When play is resumed with a throw in or free throw and three-tenths (.3) of a second or less remains on the clock, a player may not gain control of the ball and try for a field goal. In this situation only a tap could score. Note: This rule does not apply if the clock does not display tenths of a second."

  9. What I think he meant is that you have to have at least .7 seconds to catch and shoot. Anything less would require a "tap". I believe this stems from that Derrick Fisher boy from the Lakers a couple of seasons back in the NBA playoffs. And yes, there was .3 on the clock and the boy from Hazard caught and shot, not tapped. Correct call.

So are you trying to say that RickyP needs to brush up on the rule book before he does anymore yelling and screaming at the officials? :D

Don, per the rule, when there is .3 or less on the clock, any attempt must be a "tap"..........I dont know where/why RickyP came up with the .7 number.

LRCW......I didnt intend to infer such a thing to RickyP. I thought maybe it was a typo that he put .7 instead of .3..........But you do make a good point, it wouldnt hurt for all of us to brush up on the rules a bit before we "yell and scream".........

  10. Let me explain about the last shot in regulation. It has been proven that with less than .7 seconds it is impossible to catch and shoot. The officials even meet at midcourt prior to the play and I imagine that is what they discussed because as soon as the Hazard player caught the ball they immediately waved it off.

Whitaker play great down the stretch and made a huge play to give Hazard a 2 point lead late. Hazard is very young I believe they only have 1 senior.

I think you mean .3 seconds........Its at this point the attempt must be a "tap" and not a shot......
