  1. I have been followng this story on talk radio.....Amazingly enough, mainstream media hasnt had that much to say about it. I cant believe this type of chidish behavior actually goes on in our Congress. Even if she didnt agree and still did not allow a vote, common courtesy says you dont just walk out and shut everything down. This woman is blatantly using her power as Speaker to push her own PERSONAL agenda rather than that of the people.

  2. If it is a vocation, I'm sure the schools will gladly accept a $75 donation to the betterment of the school district and the referee's reward can be the enjoyment of good classy basketball.

Man! I know a bunch of guys that would LOVE to get $75/ game. That would almost make those hour and twenty minute, one way, trips worth it.

  3. I also think some of you you are forgetting a very important thing: These refs are getting paid to enforce the rules. If it is a volunteer refereeing I think they should get some slack. If he or she is getting paid to referee it is a job. I get criticized, whether it be constructive or negative, at my job all the time, by bosses, coworkers, and colleagues I have to take that criticism because it falls in the line of my job description. Why should these paid refs not take criticism for their mistakes?[/quote

Some schools may pay a few bucks in the summer but not much, not enough to cover the refs gas money. Secondly some officials actually must pay to attend some of these camps in the summer. They do it to be evaluated and get experience.

Let me know the next time you boss, coworker or collegues scream an yell at you, blatantly insult you, call you names and swear at you. I think you may have grounds to file a grievance.

  4. I dont see how Mr Eutons comments automatically make his son ineligible. If I were forced to relocate for employment reasons and had a choice of several school systems in which to enroll my children you better believe that I am going to " tour the facilities" first too. If my children excel in science or maybe music I am going to factor into my decision the schools programs/facilities. What parent that gives a hoot about their child wouldnt? Just because this child excels sports and his father made truthful and sensible comments should not make a difference.

  5. KNF I belong to a small group that has a Bible study on Monday evenings and this story was mentioned tonight about a young boy in the Flatwoods area....I have to assume this was the story of your nephew. While nobody knew any details or the family's name, we did lift them up in prayer and will continue to do so....

  6. What happens if they mess up during the season or even in the all A, they can still get scratched. That comes down to who is man or woman enough to just let it go.

I know a coach in the 16th cannot scratch after the season beginsunless he/she coach can provide proof that an official really screwed up and FYI officals may choose to not work for certain teams as well.

  7. The 16th Region in Morehead is great, but I agree, rotating the Regional Tournament would provide a phenomenal atmosphere.

Although the only gymnasiums that could hold the tournament would be Greenup Co. and Boyd Co.

This could never happen due to the unfairness, but would provide a tremendous high school atmosphere.

    It used to happen...........

  8. Is this the same lady ref who worked the state tournament a few years back? She was the 1st lady to ever officiate a Sweet 16 game, and Covington Catholic won that game as well.

No this is not the same lady who previously worked the Boys Sweet 16....she will be the 2nd lady to work in the Boys Sweet 16. She is an excellent official....I would assume her tendency to "let 'em play" stems from her officiating on the collegiate level.

  9. She did a nice job in a very tough enviroment. I am a little concerned though with what I witnessed during a timeout. The female ref walked over to one of the male refs and was talking to him, he nodded his head in agreement and as she began ot walk away she gave him a "good ballgame". I am sure she didnt realize what she had done and me personally dont care and it doesnt bother me but who knows what some might think.

Help me out here......what do you mean by this?

  10. Sometimes the officials would prefer to go out of region too......Some say they feel like it is more of a reward for finishing high enough in the ratings and others have commented that they dont have to come back to work the next day and hear about the game from customers or fellow employees. I think another good result of switching regions is that a coach who gets mad over something that happens in a regional game wont have the ability to scratch an official for the following season like they would if the officials stayed in.....

  11. Well, MY "Morehead source" tells me that there is no coaching vacancy at Rowan County, and with Breeden's reputation of verbal abuse towards players, he probably wouldn't be a candidate @ RC anyway. This all got started through gossip. Anybody can get on here and make stuff up...just watch how fast it spreads.

Sounds like you too are putting stock in second hand information. If memory serves me correctly, one of the newspaper articles that reported the incident had a quote from the Superintendent stating that he anticipated a letter of resignation. I wouldnt consider such a reprt to be gossip. Now this doesnt mean that a letter of resignation was ever actually given but without a follow up report on the subject one is left to assume.....

  12. No, the rules are not different but how they let you play is different from region to region. Lex officials let you play much more than 2nd region refs.

I dont care where they are from or how they let you play.....if you pay attention early you should know what adjustments to make depending upon how it is being called....anything else is just an excuse.

  13. Congrats to Conner they made plays when the HHS kids didn't. I just hate to see a game called by refs from out of region. Why play all year long with your regions refs and then the most important time of the year lets get people we have no idea how they call. With 2 minutes to go Conner had shot 16ft to HHS 0. I guess Conners man defense is not as aggressive as HHS zone. I think the final total was 20FT for Conner and 5 for HHS 3ft for HHS with 20secs to go. I would say Conner is the runner up to ND. HHS kids didn't seem to handle the pressure of being the favorite very well at all. Just make you think how BC and ND do it every year as the favorite. I cant see how its wasn't and upset. But good luck Conner you earned it tonight.

Are the rules of basketball different in the 9th region?

  14. Hookshot, I may not be thinking of or be overlooking some but aren't Boyd, Greenup Co. and Raceland....possibly Ashland the only ones that have big enough facility to accomodate fans from 4 teams each night (except for the finals). I also realize that goes back to the "not big enough" reason but imo it is true. I would think that regional tournament should be held in the largest facility available. JMO.

There are Regions in this state that have a split session to accomodate large crowds in small gyms.......Play one game, clear the gym, fill it back up for the second game......I am just pointing out an option. I personally enjoy the tournament at MSU......

As for playing regular season games at MSU.....It will never happen. If each team cant play a game there, boys AND girls, then none of them can.

  15. I'm sorry, but I wasn't bashing the officials. My only comment was that the style of game the officials called, which can vary from official to official / game to game, helped Ashland keep Rose Hill close. It says a lot about the coaching staff at Ashland to adapt to the officiating.

If you want to address the complaints about officiating call the Home of Tomcat Basketball, B97.1. Dickie whined all night.

You are right I would not be able to call a grade school game, too fat.

If there is ever a time when Dickie doesnt whine....close the casket he is obviously dead.
