  1. Although he isn't "young" in age per se, but in years of coaching, I think Bellevue's D Coordinator...I think his name is Dave Pelgen(?), he has been doing a great job with the defensive down there.

He could probably get a head coaching position if he so desired

He is a good coach. He does alot for the Bellevue football program and created "the paddle" between them and Dayton. Eckstien is fortunate to have him. I have heard that he was close to getting a job at a young program but elected to stay at Bellevue.

  2. It seems like someone brings this up every year, and I really can't understand why. CovCath-Highlands is by a large margin the best rivalry in NKY. It just is.

In all honesty, I have no idea what criteria anyone could use that would end with this game not topping the list. It's the biggest game of the year in NKY every year, even when one team is clearly better than the other.

Not a knock on the other games mentioned, but to me this question is moot.

Lets really get this going and set some criteria.

  3. My unofficial, unbiased assessment of Nieco Teipel.

Good size kid with better than average speed (not break away speed though). Likes to tip-toe through the big holes his line provides and seldom takes on big hits as he has very good body control (ala Shaun Alexander).

I agree that he will probably end up on the defensive side at the next level.

  4. Nicholas Co.-Bluejackets

    Caldwell Co.-Tigers

    Harrison Co.-Thoroughbreds

    Paris-Geryhounds

    Somerset-Briar Jumpers

Mercer Co.-Titans used to be the Scotties

    Rowan Co.-Vikings

    duPont Manuel- Crimsons

I believe that Harrison Co. is T-H-O-R-O-B-R-E-D-S. (I think) This was pointed out to me from an NCC Thoroughbred!

    Perhaps, someone can verify this!

  5. I for one am disappointed in the showing by Brossart. I thought that WV would win but was surprised with the ease. I keep hearing the excuse of Brossart "being young", but so is WV. Regardless of BB's past coaching deficiencies, the kids were playing and gaining football experience, ie., hitting and tackling. I saw coaches on the sideline not coaching, poor play calling, and unispired play (especially for a realistic chance to win their first game, and a homecoming game). Perhaps a head coach with more high school experience was needed.

    Congrats WV.

  6. It would be a mistake not to air the Bellevue/Dayton game. All to often, the little schools are overlooked based on their size. This game is as competitive and hard hitting as you will find. Lots of history go into this rivalry. It's one of the oldest in the state. Besides bragging rights, how close the communities are, now you have the "Battle for the Paddle". What else could make this game more appealing?

ICN6--you would be wise to keep this game. Can Charlie pull some strings!

  7. I can appreciate your enthusiasm here but lets not forget about the Teipel kid at Beechwood. He is a D-1 prospect. I would put Ricky right behind him though and probably has the biggest heart out of any running back in NKY.

Teipel is good. But pound for pound and ability Ricky is better. The difference in the two really comes down to who is blocking for them.

  8. Tigers looked really good. Paris played a tough game and did not quit. Bellevue was very physical all night long on both sides of the ball. Buckler IMO is the best back in NKY Class A. Barrett was solid and the line played very well. The defense turned in another solid effort. Little Davey Combs had several big plays including an interception return. I agree with Savior, Got to love the fight song.

  9. ^^^I may be wrong on this, but I suspect it has something to do with the possibility of major injuries that could sidetrack a very promising baseball future. Although, I heard he will play basketball and their is potential for injury there as well. I am sure he would have made the gridiron Tigers very potent.

  10. I found it impressive that Bellevue and their new defense was able to hold Newport to only 6 points and managed to get at least 4 turnovers (that I can remember). Good job to the D. Coordinator and the leader of the defense Travis Lyvers

I did not think the defense was that impressive. Newport put together a lond TD drive and had another stopped inside the 5. Seems they still have a long way to go IMO.
