  1. After only one week, there is already some movement in the rankings. Read below to see how the 6th region boys are doing so far: 1. Western (3-0) The Warriors have shown so far that they deserve their pre-season #1 ranking. After two easy wins over Shawnee and Fairdale, they defeated highly touted Elizabethtown 72-63. Jr. G Trent Hinkle leads the team in scoring at 14.3ppg, but they have 4 players averaging double digits. They next play Valley on 12/7 2. Jeffersontown (2-0) The Chargers have moved up the rankings with two impressive wins, a blow-out victory over Fairdale and a 66-64 win over highly ranked PRP. There are no stats on file, but the Vasser brothers (sr. Will and so. Dre) have been leading the way. Up next is an intriguing match-up with Doss on Tuesday. 3. PRP (1-1) The Panthers move down a spot after their loss to J-town, but based on their pre-season performance and talent, they stay in the 3rd spot. The Panthers did look impressive, defeating Doss in their first game. Zee McCown is pacing the Panthers (20 ppg). They next take on Valley (12/10) 4. Doss (1-1) The Dragons had an impressive bounce back after their loss to PRP by defeating J. Hardin 94-71 on Sat. There are no stats on file as of yet for that game. As previously mentioned, Doss and J-town meet on Tuesday, and that will tell us a lot about both teams. 5. DeSales (1-2) Rarely does a team move up the rankings with a 1-2 record, but DeSales has been impressive so far. OT losses to highly ranked Male and Trinity were followed up with a win over John Hardin. The Colts currently have a balanced attack, with 5 players averaging double figures (Austin Cole-Carr leads team at 15.7ppg) They next play Central on 12/9 6. Fern Creek (2-1) The Tigers started out with easy wins over Moore and Valley, but lost to Cincy Taft 78-61. As expected, sr. Darian Lewis is pacing FC at 16.7ppg. They next face Southern on 12/7 7. Bullitt East (1-1) The defending Region 6 champs stumbled out of the gate, losing to John Hardin, but rebounded with a win over Breck Co. Sr. Tucker Blandford is leading the Chargers at 20ppg. 8. Iroquois (2-0) A pleasant surprise have been the start of the Raiders - two nice wins over Valley and Southern. They have 4 players averaging double figures, paced by sr. Davion Burton (17ppg). They next play Moore on 12/7 9. Evangel (0-3) The Eagles have started out slowly, but have played a very tough schedule and are possibly missing some of their key players. Guards Kyran Tilley and Christian Spalding are pacing Evangel so far. They next play Fern Creek on 12/9 10. Southern (1-1) The Trojans started out the year with a great win over Butler, but then lost to Iroquois. Sr. G Camden Pfeister is at 20ppg. 11. Bullitt Central (1-1) 12. Holy Cross (2-0) 13. Butler (1-2) 14. Beth Haven (2-0) 15. North Bullitt (1-2) 16. Fairdale (0-2) 17. Moore (0-3) 18. Valley (0-4) 19. Whitefield Academy (0-3)
  2. 6th Region Preview and preseason rankings There has been a LOT of roster movement this year in the 6th Region. Between transfers, players repeating their grade, and good old-fashioned player development - some squads look a lot different than last season. Let's look at the top teams! 1. Western You heard me right! - Western leads the preseason rankings. I watched first hand as they physically wore down Lexington Catholic last weekend in a scrimmage. Athletes everywhere! Jr. G Trent Hinkle will be the leader of the young Warriors, as they will likely start 2 freshmen in G Kaden Magwood and F Jayden Miles. If they can over come their youth, watch out! 2. PRP - PRP has had some roster shakeups. In come G Greg Cole (trinity) and F Keith Robinson (DeSales). Out go G Kirk Lemons (CAL) and F Lavonte Harris (J-town). While PRP doesn't have the depth from last season - they still have PG Zee McCown and F/C Vic Lado. A lot of questions about the Panthers were answered when they beat Ballard by around 20pts last Friday in their last scrimmage. IF they can develop some depth during the regular season, PRP should be a strong contender come March. 3. Jeffersontown - Another team with some roster additions. Along with returnees T Cleaves and Will Vasser, J-town also picked up a couple of PRP starters from last season in Brandon Gatewood and Lavonte Harris. The Chargers will be athletic and look to play uptempo. We will find out a lot about J-town (and PRP) when they play the first Friday of the season. 4. Doss - The Dragons return the bulk of their squad back from last season, where they went 9-5 while playing a tough schedule. Their top duo of Inslee Carroll and big man Tony Moss (5th year) both return and are surrounded by speed and length. If Doss can find their outside shooting touch, they could be a very dangerous team in the region. 5. Evangel - 6’11’ Cyr Malonga and sr G Gage Mabry lead the way for the Eagles, who have had some transfers in guards Kyran Tilley and Christian Spalding joining the program. One the season starts we will see who can be in uniform for Evangel - and depending on eligibility, they could be as strong as anyone across the board in the region. 6. Fern Creek The Tigers will rely on seniors Darian Lewis, Andru Markham, and Jaden Schooler to pick up the slack from some heavy graduation losses. 7. Butler New HC Kevin Geary will have an experienced backcourt returning in sr's Julion Beard and Mershon Dickerson. 8. Bullitt East The defending Region 6 champs lost a fair amount of their team to graduation, but have the luxury of returning leading scorer Tucker Blandford 9. Southern - Sr. G Camden Pfeister and sr. C Evan Frederick both chose to repeat and this gives Southern a very talented duo to build around. 10. DeSales Another team with some transfer help. G Austin Carr-Cole is a player to keep an eye on. 11. Bullitt Central Sr. Hunter Coleman (18.9ppg last season) returns to BC 12. Holy Cross So. F Jacob Hand is a player to watch for the Coogs (17ppg last season) 13. Iroquois 14. Beth Haven - Sr. Luka Mateski(22ppg last season) returns to pace the Bearcats 15. Fairdale 16. Moore 17. Valley 18. North Bullitt 19. Whitefield Academy TOP PLAYERS 1) Zee McCown - PRP 2) Cyr Malonga - Evangel 3) Darian Lewis - Fern Creek 4) Tucker Blandford - B. East 5) Gage Mabry - Evangel 6) Vic Lado - PRP 7) Cam Pfeister - Southern 8 Trent Hinkle - Western 9) Turrel Cleaves - J-town 10) Luka Mateski - Beth Haven
  3. While not at the level of the 2nd game - the Dunbar/Manual match up was a good game. Soph striker Amelia Jones scored in the 7th minute to put Manual up 1-0. Manual dominated the possession in the first half and outshot the Bulldogs 8-2 However, the second half was much more even. Dunbar created many chances in the second half and seemed to wear down the Manual midfield as the game wore on. Both goalies (Fr. Morgan White for Man - So. Amber Brandon for PLD) made some great plays, and kept the final score at 1-0 Both of these teams will have their hands full Thursday....but you never know - that's the beauty of soccer!
  4. Well, after seeing ND last night - holding that team to 6 goals is no small feat. Good luck to her and I hope to see her in person again
  5. There is a lot of young GK talent in Louisville. SHA, Assumption and Manual all have freshman goalies starting for their programs. It seems crazy that 3 top 10 in KY programs would be starting youngsters like that but if you watch them play - you can see why.
  6. The BULLITT EAST CHARGERS are 6th Region CHAMPS: Here was the Draw: Monday RU 21 Beth Haven (19-6) 43 @ W 22 DeSales (18-6) 54 RU 23 Evangel (10-13) 72 @ W 24 Bullitt East (12-8) 86 RU 24 Fern Creek (11-6) 58 @ W 21 PRP (13-3) 56 RU 22 Western (10-7) 65 @ W 23 Bullitt Central (12-14) 62 The first round went mostly to form. DeSales had a slow start; Beth Haven was as close as 2pts near end of 3rd Q, but pulled away for a semi-comfortable win. Bullitt East previewed their recent run of form with a fairly easy win. Western struggled at times but held on to win at Bullitt Central. And finally, as I predicted, there was a dog fight @ PRP and while the Panthers led most of the game, Fern Creek's experience showed and they pulled out the win on the road. Thursday AT VALLEY 5:30 DeSales 58 vs. Bullitt East 62 7:30 Fern Creek 42 vs. Western 43 Here's where the chaos started! Heavy favorite DeSales was down two with 2.7 seconds to go when big man Sekou Kalle, trying to steal the ball, reached over the baseline and was called for a Tech. That clinched Bullitt East victory and finals appearance. NO stats have been posted for BE. but I did see that sr. Collin Powell led the Chargers in scoring that game. Devin Perry led the Colts with 24 pts, and Kalle pitched in 6 pts and 19!! rebounds in the loss. Then the young Western Warriors, in a defensive slug fest, outlasted the defending champs, Fern Creek. There are no KHSAA stats for either team but I do know so. guard Trent Hinkle led Western with 18 in the win. Saturday AT VALLEY Bullitt East 69 Western 49 The Chargers controlled this one from start to finish. No stats on file. So Bullitt East will start Sweet 16 play on Thursday, April 1 @ 2pm vs. Region 1 winner McCracken Co. The Mustangs are currently a strong 22-6 on the season. The teams have not played a common opponent so it will be hard to tell who is the favorite. I do know that Bullitt East is no doubt playing their strongest ball of the season. Good luck Chargers!
  7. PRP was up 15 mid 3rd Q. Zee McCown was having his way early, but Fern Creek's depth and pressure wore him down. PRP's Lavonte Harris was also very effective early, but rolled an ankle end of 2nd and wasn't the same rest of game. Fern Creek went small most of second half and that seemed to work well. PRP did a really good job of keeping FC out of the lane, but Jaden Rogers hit some BIG 3's in the second half to start the comeback. Game was well-officiated, but play was allowed to be physical until last 3 min then refs started calling everything. Didn't really seem biased, but did hurt PRP a couple of times down stretch. Last foul that put FC line with 8 sec left looked like a super clean strip by PRP's Nevin White - but PRP took some tough shots down the stretch and shouldn't have been in that situation. Fern Creek will be a tough out - their experience of being in big games showed last night; they didn't panic when down and made big shots. While Rogers hit the big shots, Darian Lewis and Jaden Schooler were the two guards that gave PRP trouble slashing during the comeback. When you have players with the talent of TJ Toney and C Warren only playing spot minutes (at least last night) - you have a DEEP roster.
  8. After this crazy season - we are to the Regional! Here is the Draw: Monday 7pm RU 21 Beth Haven (19-6) AT W 22 DeSales (18-6) RU 23 Evangel (10-13) AT W 24 Bullitt East (12-8) RU 24 Fern Creek (11-6) AT W 21 PRP (13-3) RU 22 Western (10-7) AT W 23 Bullitt Central (12-14) Thursday AT VALLEY 5:30 DeSales/Beth Haven vs. Bullitt East/Evangel 7:30 Fern Creek/PRP vs. Western/Bullitt Central Saturday AT VALLEY 7:00 FINAL The obvious favorite is DeSales. The LIT champs played one of the hardest schedules around and finished the season at a respectable 18-6. 6th region POY Devin Perry leads the Colts (20p 4r) but Akron signee Sekou Kalle (20p 12r) was LIT MVP and so. Keith Robinson (13p) gives them a 3-prong attack that is tough to stop. They received a favorable draw, facing first-time Region participant Beth Haven. Led by jr. Luka Mateski (22.5p/10r) and senior Luke Easley (14p) - they won a school record 19 games and can score a lot of points at times. The other reason that DeSales is favored is that they avoid defending champ Fern Creek and 21st D champ PRP. With Bullitt East upset win in the 24th D - these two will tangle in the first round @ PRP. Fern Creek won the regular season match-up at home in the LIT. They have the deepest roster possibly in Jeff Co, lead in scoring by Darian Lewis (13.5), who made the all-LIT team. Bigs Darrius Washington and CeArius Warren rule the paint, while guards Jaden Rogers and TJ Toney are tough match-ups for all. However, PRP is undefeated since that loss, and will be confident in turning the tables at home. Super Soph Zee McCown has put in a first-team all region season (19.6p 7a 3.2s), and he gets help from sr. Nevin White (10.3p 6r) and jr big men Vic Lado (11.5p 5r) and Vonte Harris (9p 4r). Based on the first game, you have to give FC a slight nod, but this will undoubtedly be one of the State's top QF match-ups. Bullitt East will be feeling very confident coming off of their upset win over Fern Creek in the 24th district final. They have a balanced attack, led by the Blanford's, jr. Tucker (17p), sr. Will (12.6p) and sr. Collin Powell (11.3p). They will be favored over Evangel, who lost the 23rd district final to Bullitt Central in controversial fashion (according to multiple reports). The Eagles, led by G Dawson Black (18p), G Gage Mabry (16.8p) and C Cyr Malonga (11.5p 11r), will cause some match-up problems for the Chargers, but BE should take care of business at home. The last QF match-up is two longshots - Western vs. Bullitt Central. Western, who advanced to the district 22 final with a half-court shot in double OT to beat top-seed Butler, is an athletic squad who can beat anyone on a given night. Led by so. G Trent Hinkle (14p) and sr. G Janhoi Lee (13p), the Warriors are probably the favorite in this game, especially with the late addition of G Jamal Chambers, a Male High transfer, who hit the big shots down the stretch to advance. Bullitt Central has a solid 1-2 punch in jr. Hunter Coleman (18.7p) and sr. Gavin Hedges (17.4p) and will feel good about their upset win over Evangel in the 23rd district. I will follow up next week with a tourney review and STATE tourney preview!!
  9. 6th Region after week 10 and District Preview! The regular season (that wasn't a regular season!) has come to an end and it's time for post-season play. Lets look at each district field in the 6th Region! (season averages in parenthesis) 21st District 1) PRP (11-3) 2) Holy Cross (14-8) 3) Beth Haven (18-5) 4) Fairdale (4-12) 5) Valley (3-8) PRP is the heavy favorite going into the 21st region tourney. They have handily won all their district games by double digits. Super Soph Zee McCown has put in a first-team all region season (19.6p 7a 3.2s) and game, and he gets help from sr. Nevin White (10.3p 6r) and jr big men Vic Lado (11.5p 5r) and Vonte Harris (9p 4r). The other semi-final match-up is an intriguing one. Either Holy Cross or Beth Haven will make their first Regional tournament in recent history. Both programs are on the rise and led by young forwards. Holy Cross' fr. F Jacob Hand (17p) made the all-LIT team and Beth Haven's jr. Luka Mateski (22.5p/10r) has been a tough match-up for all teams. 22nd District 1) DeSales (16-6) 2) Butler (7-3) 3) Doss (9-4) 4) Western (8-6) 5) Iroquois (2-10) While you can make the argument that the 21st district is one of the weaker districts in the area, you can make the same argument that the 22nd is one of the more difficult around! You have to make DeSales the slight favorite. While they are not the first seed, their body of work (LIT Champs) gives them the nod. Possible 6th region POY Devin Perry leads the Colts (20p 4r) but Akron signee Sekou Kalle (20p 12r) was LIT MVP and so. Keith Robinson (13p) gives them a 3-prong attack that is tough to stop. However, they draw a tough Doss squad, who only lost to DeSales by 2 in the regular-season match up. Sr. Tony Moss will be a first-team all region player, and leads the Dragons (17p 7r) but Inslee Carroll and Jeremiah Glover give Doss the outside shooting to hang with anyone. It will be a shame that one of these schools won't make the Regional. The other semi-final is top seed Butler, fresh off their upset of DeSales last week, most likely facing a super athletic Western team. On a given night, Western has the length and talent to beat anyone - led by so. G Trent Hinkle (14p) and sr. G Janhoi Lee (13p). However, Butler will be favored to advance, led by sr. Tae Dozier (16.1p), who has really stepped up the 2nd half of the season. The Bears also get great contributions from jr. Julion Beard (13p) and sr's Cole McMichael (9p) and Mershon Dickerson (10p) 23rd District 1) Southern (10-5) 2) Evangel (8-12) 3) Bullitt Central (10-14) 4) Moore (4-7) 5) North Bullitt (9-15) This district is pretty wide open. Southern is the top seed, was undefeated in reg season district play, and is led by one of the top guards in Jeff Co in sr. Cam Pfeister (17p). However, they will play in their semi either North Bullitt, who is playing at home OR Evangel, who has a sub .500 record but is now full strength with the additions of G Gage Mabry (16.8p) and C Cyr Malonga (11.5p 11r). In the other semi you have Bullitt Central, who have a solid 1-2 punch in jr. Hunter Coleman (18.7p) and sr. Gavin Hedges (17.4p) facing a Moore squad who had won 4 of their last 5 games before Covid shutdown. They are led by Sr. Darius Carver (15.7p) 24th District 1) Fern Creek (10-5) 2) Bullitt East (10-8) 3) J-Town (5-6) 4) Whitefield Academy (3-20) This district is all about Fern Creek. The Tigers are the heavy favorite and should position themselves well as a #1 seed for the Regional next week. The semifinal between J-town and Bullitt East should be a great game. The Chargers won the regular season match-up and have a balanced attack, led by the Blanford's, jr. Tucker (17p), sr. Will (12.6p) and sr. Collin Powell (11.3p). Jeffersontown has had a bumpy road this season, but coach Richard Duncan will have them ready to play. Jr. Terrall Cleaves was made eligible right before the season ended, and will give the Chargers a boost going fwd. J-town also has a balanced attack, with 4 players averaging between 10-13 pts. a game. I will be back next week with results and a Regional preview
  10. 6th Region after week 9 A great week of games (and the LIT!!) has caused some movement in the rankings - let's see what's going on in Region 6! (season averages in parenthesis) 1. DeSales (16-5) LIT CHAMPS - not much else to say - they defeated Ballard 74-73 in OT to win the Title! Sekou Kalle was unstopable in the title game and won the MVP - Devin Perry and Keith Robinson were named ALL - LIT team. They start this last week of the season with a huge district match-up with Butler on Mon 3/8. 2. Fern Creek (10-5) The Tigers cemented themselves as the co-favorite with DeSales in the region with some strong LIT performances. They easily beat PRP (69-51) in the QF, and gave Ballard all they wanted, eventually falling 62-54 in the semi-final. Jr Darian Lewis is pacing the Tigers (14p) in scoring, and also made the ALL-LIT team. FC returns to the court 3/9 vs. Moore. 3. PRP (10-3) The Panthers went 1-1 LIT week - beating CAL in the 2nd round (82-69) before losing to Fern Creek in the QF. Doss (9-4) The Dragons went 2-1 LIT week - beating Valley and Southern but losing to Butler 71-68 in the 2nd round. Bullitt East (8-7) Bullitt East went 2-1 this week in the LIT - losing to St. X in the QF but beating Moore and Western. The Blanford's, jr. Tucker (17p) and sr. Western (6-6) Western went 1-2 this week in the LIT - defeating Collegiate but losing to Trinity and Bullitt East. So. Trent Hinkle (14.2p) and Sr. Janhoi Lee (12.1p) lead the Warriors in scoring. The Warriors take on Iroquois on 3/9. 8. Jeffersontown (4-6) The Chargers went 2-1 in the LIT - losing to Eastern in the QF but defeating Beth Haven and North Bullitt along the way. Will Vasser (13.4p) leads a balanced attack with 4 starters averaging 10p or higher a game. They travel to Manual on 3/9. 9. Southern (9-5) The Trojans went 2-2 this week - wins over Central and Shawnee - losses to Ballard and Doss. Sr.'s Camden Pfeister (17p), 6' 9" C Evan Frederick (14p), and Xavier Shobe (13p) lead the Southern attack. They host Fairdale on 3/9 10. Holy Cross (14-8) The Cougars of HC had a busy week - playing 5 games (3 LIT), defeating Iroquois, and CE, losing to Manual, Waggener, and St. X. Fr F Jacob Hand is leading HC in scoring (16.7p), and made the ALL LIT team. Next up for HC is Brown on 3/8. 11. Evangel (8-10) The Eagles went to the semi-finals of the State All A tourney - beating Somerset and Calvary, but coming up short vs. Clinton Co. @ EKU. So. Dawson Black continues to lead Evangel in scoring (19.5p) but the additions of 10th grader C Cyr Malonga and jr. G Gage Mabry will change the attack for the Eagles going forward. They travel to Madison Central on 3/8. 12. Beth Haven (17-5) Beth Haven went 2-1 this week - losing to J-town in the LIT but defeating FCA and Valley. Jr. Luka Mateski continues to pace Beth Haven (22.5p/10r) and sr. Luke Easley, who scored his 1000th point this past weekend, is averaging 14 a game. They next host Wellspring on 3/8. 13. Bullitt Central (10-12) BC went 1-1 this week with a win @ Henry Co and a loss to Grayson co. Jr. Hunter Coleman (18.9p) and Sr. Gavin Hedges (17.7p) continue to lead the Cougars. They next travel to Washington co. on 3/9 14. Moore (4-7) The Mustangs split games this week with Bullitt East (L) and Atherton (W) Sr. Darius Carver (15.2p) is leading the team in scoring. Moore host Fern Creek on Tuesday 3/9. 15. North Bullitt (7-13) North Bullitt went 1-2 this week in the LIT - they beat Waggener 75-74 first round but lost to DeSales and J-town. Valley (2-7) The Vikings beat Portland Christian but lost to Doss and Beth Haven this week. They next play @ PRP on 3/8 17. Iroquois (2-7) The Raiders defeated Walden in the LIT this week, but lost games to CAL, Holy Cross and South Oldham. They next play Western on 3/9. 18. They next play Frankfort Christian on 3/8.
  11. 6th Region after week 8 A great week of games has caused some movement in the rankings - let's see what's going on in Region 6! (season averages in parenthesis) 1. DeSales (12-5) The Colts continue to play all comers. They won two close games this week against quality opponents - winning @ Collins (53-48) and vs. Doss (75-73). Senior Devin Perry has continued to impress, cementing himself as the likely player of the year in the region, raising his season average to 20.9p a game. Sekou Kalle continues to be a force (19.2p/11r) inside to give DeSales possibly the best 1-2 punch in the Louisville area. The Colts, like most of Region 6, play in the LIT this week - opening play on Tuesday @ home. 2. Fern Creek (7-4) The Tigers had wins this week over Manual (56-51) and Bullitt East (66-56) Jr Darian Lewis is pacing the Tigers (14.6p) in scoring, and sr. guard Jaden Rodgers has returned from injury to play some minutes the last couple of games. FC also got news that FL transfer TJ Toney will be eligible this week - which will give their backcourt a boost. LIT this week! 3. PRP (9-2) The Panthers had very solid week - Going 3-0 with wins over Evangel (94-56), Bardstown (77-70) and Fairdale (89-49). Soph Zee McCown has raised his scoring average to 19p a game, and jr. Vic Lado (11p/7r) and sr. G Nevin White (11p) are giving PRP a balanced attack. LIT this week! 4. Doss (7-3) The Dragons are another team that have really challenged themselves with a challenging schedule. Doss had two great wins over Oldham Co. (54-50) and @ Bullitt East (69-61) before losing a heartbreaker to DeSales (75-73). Senior Tony Moss (16.8p/ 8r) is leading their balanced attack, but all 5 Doss starters average 9p a game or higher. LIT this week! 5. Butler (4-2) After being on a pause for Covid - the Bears got back to action this week - losing to CAL 77-65 but then upsetting highly ranked John Hardin at home 83-77. Sr. Tae Dozier leads the Bears (17.2p) and had 33 in the win over JHHS. Butler is another team that spreads the wealth - they have 4 players all averaging between 8.3 to 10.8p - LIT this week! 6. Western (5-4) Western had two good wins this week - defeating Spencer Co.(49-47) and Bullitt Central (64-38) So. Trent Hinkle (14.1p) and Sr. Janhoi Lee (13.3p) lead the Warriors in scoring. LIT this week! 7. Bullitt East (8-7) Bullitt East played well but came up short this week vs. Doss (69-61) and Fern Creek (66-56). The Blanford's, jr. Tucker (15.5p) and sr. Will (13.5p) and are pacing the Chargers, with sr. Collin Powell chipping in (10.7p). LIT this week! 8. Jeffersontown (2-5) The Chargers finally returned to the court on Sat - losing @ Eastern 76-62. No stat report filed. LIT this week! 9. Southern (7-3) The Trojans went 3-0 this week with wins over North Bullitt (82-81), Waggener (73-65) and Washington Co. (55-43) Sr.'s Camden Pfeister (18.4p), 6' 9" C Evan Frederick (15p), and Xavier Shobe (13p) lead the Southern attack. LIT this week! 10. Holy Cross (12-5) The Cougars of HC also went 3-0 this week - getting big district wins over Fairdale (56-47) and Valley (56-48) as well as beating Portland Christian (79-66) Fr F Jacob Hand is leading HC in scoring (16.6p). LIT week! 11. Evangel (6-9) The Eagles had a busy week - losses to PRP and North Hardin, but wins over KCD (68-63) in the all A sectional and No. Oldham (73-71) So. 12. Newly eligible 6' 11" Cyr Malonga made his debut last night in this game. He is raw and needs to get stronger for sure, but showed flashes of being a very high-level player. Good hands, runs very well, good court vision in Evangel's press break. When Evangel gets to full-strength (jr Gage Mabry is eligible for varsity starting Friday?) - I expect them to make some noise in the all A.

  19. 6th Region after week 2 While the JCPS teams are eagerly awaiting tomorrows meeting (fingers crossed and say your Hail Mary's), some teams are two weeks in - let's look at what's happening in the 6th Region! 1. Fern Creek (Last Seasons Champion) (0-0) Season still on hold, but with the return of D. Washington back to the team, they must be considered the favorite until proven otherwise. 2. DeSales (2-3) While the Colts have a losing record - they have played a BRUTAL schedule and have proven worthy of being a contender in the region. Akron signee Sekou Kalle has averaged a double double for the Colts thru 5 games (21pts/13 r) and PG Devin Perry had a big night vs. Cal, scoring 37 in a 85-79 win. DeSales next game is Monday night vs. Bullitt Central. 3. Jeffersontown (0-0) Big news came out of the J-Town camp last week as returning PG and all-region talent Jalen Fairmen has left the school and is reported to have transferred to Jeff in IN. This would be a BIG blow to the Chargers region title hopes. However, until they play, I will keep them in this spot, as they will still be athletic and well coached. 4. PRP (0-0) PRP returns two starters from last season's team - Uber-talented So. PG Zee McCown and Sr. SG Nevin White, both of whom averaged around 10ppg. However, unlike 2020, this team has some underneath presence. Jr.’s Victor Lado and Lavonte Harris are both 6’6” and have matured drastically from last season. PRP will be a deeper team than last season and should make some noise in the Region. 5. Doss (0-0) The Dragons return the bulk of their squad back from last season, where they went 17-12 while playing a tough schedule. Their top duo of jr. Inslee Carroll (17ppg) and sr. big man Tony Moss (13p/10rpg) both return and are surrounded by speed and length. If Doss can find their outside shooting touch, they could be a very dangerous team in the region. 6. Butler (0-0) They return some solid players in sr.’s Mershon Dickerson and Taevon Dozier, but lost their top 4 scorers from last year and have a new coach in Brent Jameson. 7. Bullitt East (2-1) Bullitt East started the season off with an impressive win over CAL. They since split with Grayson Co. and the always tough John Hardin. Tucker Blanford has started the year off averaging darn near 20 pts and 10 reb a game. Their next opponent will be South Oldham on 1/20 8. Western (0-0) Western’s top 3 scorers graduated (including double/double machine Jaheim Foreman) but will be long, athletic and physical. 9. Evangel (2-4) While the Eagles await the KHSAA ruling on the eligibility of 6’11’ Cyr Malonga, who has multiple high D1 offers, they still have shown signs of life. Evangel will represent the 6th region in the all "A" tournament, defeating Holy Cross 70-59 in the semis and beating Beth haven 65-52 in the final. At the moment, they have six players averaging 5 pts. a game or higher, so they have a balanced scoring attack. They travel to Bardstown Bethlehem on 1/21 10. Southern (0-0) Sr. Camden Pfeister is a player to keep an eye on. 11. Moore (0-0) 12. Fairdale (0-0) Sr. Isaac Tedford is a player to watch. 13. Bullitt Central (1-1) BC rebounded from their season-opening loss to Anderson co with a 92-68 win over rival North Bullitt. Jr. Hunter Coleman led the way with 26, and sr. Gavin Hedges chipped in with 24. The Cougars host region foe DeSales 1/18. 14. Beth Haven (3-2) The Bears have kept their strong start going. They trounced Portland Christian 92-59, then fell to Evangel in the 6th region all "A" final 65-52. Jr. Luka Mateski continues to pace Beth Haven (24pts/11 reb) and sr. Luke Easley is averaging 17 a game. They host Bluegrass United on 1/19 15. Holy Cross (3-1) The Cougars of HC lost to Evangel in the semi of the 6th region all "A", but rebounded to defeat Walden 61-46. HC has a balanced scoring attack - with 4 players averaging between 13-16 pts. a game. They next host CKHS on 1/19 16. Iroquois (0-0) 17. Valley (0-0) 18. North Bullitt (0-2) North Bullitt has gotten off to a rough start, losing to Walden 79-74 and Bullitt Central 92-68. With the loss of their top 6 scorers from last season, the Eagles look to be in rebuild mode. 19. Whitefield Academy (0-2) The Wildcats lost their first two games by a combined score of 129-54. They have been off since then with Covid cancellations. Hopefully they can return to the court soon.
  20. Kind of crazy they already released the matchups. Would have thought they could have released the plans, then seeded in mid February after hopefully everyone got a couple of weeks of games in.
  21. 6th Region after week 1 While the JCPS teams haven't started yet (fingers crossed and say your Hail Mary's), some teams have gotten going - let's look at what's happening in the 6th Region! 1. Fern Creek (Last Seasons Champion) (0-0) Season still on hold, but with the return of D. Washington back to the team, they must be considered the favorite until proven otherwise. 2. DeSales (1-1) Akron signee Sekou Kalle has averaged a double double for the Colts in their first two games, a nail biting 73-70 loss vs. consensus state top 10 E-town, and a blow out victory over B-town Bethlehem. Transfer Devin Perry has definitely made an impact and as DeSales gets more floor time than their 6th region competition, they should stay in this spot for the long haul. 7. Western (0-0) Western’s top 3 scorers graduated (including double/double machine Jaheim Foreman) but will be long, athletic and physical. 8. Bullitt East (0-0) Bullitt East will have to cope with the loss of sr. PG Zak Perdue. Coach Couch will have his boys prepared however when they start their season Tuesday night @ CAL 9. Evangel (0-3) The Eagles received a lot of preseason hype, but have gotten off to a rough start on the court. Evangel had a tough opener, losing big @ O-boro Catholic, but that would be a tough opener for many squads. They also lost at Campbellsville and Simon Kenton. 6’11’ Cyr Malonga, who has multiple high D1 offers, has NOT yet been ruled eligible by the KHSAA. While by tournament time the Eagles could look a lot different, for now they slip in the rankings 10. Southern (0-0) Sr. Camden Pfeister is a player to keep an eye on. 11. Moore (0-0) 12. Fairdale (0-0) Sr. Isaac Tedford is a player to watch. 13. Holy Cross (2-0) The Cougars of HC start the season with two tight W's. They defeated KCD 68-64 and Bluegrass United 67-66. Jr. Alonzo Coleman put up a team high 21 in the KCD game and sr. Chaz Geraghty, a Morehead St football signee, had 17 and 9 boards. HC takes on Evangel in an All "A" region game on Thursday. 14. North Bullitt (0-0) North Bullitt graduated all 5 starters from last season's district championship team. They open up with the Walden school on Thursday. 15. Beth Haven (1-1) The Bears are an interesting team. Once again coached by the well respected Michael Stinnett, they lost a heartbreaker in their opener @ Thomas Nelson 72-69, and then rebounded to defeat CEC 88-52. Sr. Luke Easley has picked up where he left off last season with a 25 pt. effort vs. CEC, but transfer big Luka Mateski has made a huge impact, avg. 28 pts. and 11 reb. through their first two games. 16. Iroquois (0-0) 17. Bullitt Central (0-1) BC lost their home opener to Anderson Co 42-37. The Cougars were hit fairly hard by graduation and may be in rebuilding mode 18. Valley (0-0) 19. Whitefield Academy (0-2) The Wildcats lost their first two games by a combined score of 129-54
