Those are very impressive numbers against a very good NCC defense.
Congrats to NCC on a great season and the seniors on unbelievable careers.

Calloway Cty is 30-1 and hasn't lost to a KY team. Are they a contender or a product of a weak schedule?
I don't know a whole lot about them but they have not played a team on the BGP top 20 yet this year.

Proud and happy for NCC. IMO Syd Moss is the best girls player I have seen since Donna Murphy. She is also polite and has always shown good sportsmenship in all of my contacts with her.
Have you seen Rebecca Greenwell play???

WOW! I didnt know the program was in trouble or needed to be turned around. I just thought they couldnt win before because they didnt have the talent. LOL
Well indeed NCC has been good in the 2000's but they missed region in 2006 and 2008 both years with a 13-15 record.

Ron Dawn is a wizard. It is almost unfair to have him coaching against mere-mortal girls' high school coaches. A very unfair advantage.
Arguably, his best coaching job, as this team did not appear to be as strong as last year's or the two he has coached in the past.
Congrats!!!
Since Ron took over 3 seasons ago he is 72-16
3 Regional All "A" titles
1 All "A" State title
1 Regional title
Absolutely remarkable job of turning this program around.

NCC has been on fire since losing in the All "A" beating Ryle, NDA twice, and Boone. Many people wondered how they would rebound after the disappointment of the A and it shows what a strong group of girls they have.
-
The way that NCC plays defense will make every game they play down in Bowling Green a close one. They have been battle tested by playing a very tough schedule, they lost to #1 Manuel by 9.
-
Congrats to NCC. Good luck against Calloway County at Diddle.
It appears that NCC is on the favorable side of the bracket as well.
-
Boone certainly didn't look "inspired" in all areas today. A bit surprising.
The girl for NCC that seems to make them go is Bartels(sp?) #11. Not many girls in NKY can make the pull up J like she can.
Agreed she defiantly makes NCC go and she is one of the most pure shooters in the region.

Congrats to NewCath. Did Moss play?
Yes, I believe she had 18.

Unbelievable year for the Breds this year, they have played everyone tough and there is no reason that they can't make a run in the Sweet 16.
-
Does the type of first round game that each team had factor in at all? ND had a highly emotional battle where the first 7 players saw most of the minutes while NCC was able to rest the starters for almost half of the game. I'm not sure that fatigue is a huge issue but the floor is longer than the players are used to and one team spent much more energy in their game than the other.
I don't think it will matter because they will have a 3 day break. However NDA is going to have a lot of confidence coming off of a huge win against Ryle and that could carry over into the game.
-
NCC won in a squeaker a couple of weeks ago and NDA comes off a huge win tonight, it should be a dandy.
Thoughts?
-
How did Ryle get down by so much in the first half?
-
How much was admission over at BOK?
-
I look for a 35-30 game and it could go either way.
-
I would say at this point Boone Co. is the heavy favorite.
-
Ncc is playing great going into the region and Nikki Kiernan is playing her best ball of the season. If they are going to make a run for the region she will have to be the difference.
Fryer didn't get in the box score did she have a bad night?
-
I look for Moss to have a big game, but it still could go either way.
-
They need the players who can compete, as well. They had a pre- Christmas schedule that did nothing more than give their young ladies a false sense of hope. When Coach Oliverio took over at Ryle they were loaded with "Cupcakes" on their schedule. Once these contracts ran out she started scheduling tougher teams in tougher venues. They continue to play away from home until late in the season and it has helped build a more confident team who can handle adversity and unfriendly enviorments. I'm just trying to give a few suggestions. I remember the Jackie Bearden days of Dixie girls basketball when my younger brothers were in school there. I'd like to see them get back to one of the elite programs.
I agree if you can legitimately compete against these teams but Dixie is no where near competing with any top 20 team, so there is no reason to put them on the schedule.
-
Agree completely. They can start by improving on their schedule. The only way to continue to improve your team is to play tough teams week in and week out. They are not laone in that respect. There are a number of teams who play a pretty cushy schedule.
At this point a tough schedule will do nothing but kill any confidence that these girls have. Just think they played NCC the other night and only scored 12 points, how could playing tougher teams at this point help?
-
Ryle is going to be very tough in the regional!
-
Congrats!!! One of the best coaches in the state.

The real question here is why has St. Henry fallen totally out of the 9th region race since the all A? Was that the only goal for them, I remember a St. Henry supporter telling me right before the NCC game that they thought that this was a team that was just as good as Ryle and Boone. When I watched them play I agreed with him because they played very hard and have alot of talent. But now losing to Brossart, Conner, and not even competing with Boone whats going on?

No doubt about it and with all the senior guards graduating she is going to get alot of touches in the years to come.
