Congratulations to these young ladies on their accomplishments!!

  2. McNeil creates contact by running in to the defender who has legal position and then continuing the shot. He is getting lots of calls on defensive players even though he creates the contact. They should be no calls or offensive fouls. Basketball rules state that if a defensive player is in a legal defensive stance or position, the defensive player has the right to move in order to maintain his legal positioning. A charging call can be made even if the defensive player has one or both feet off of the ground when the offensive player makes contact with the defensive player. The basketball rule of “verticality” applies here. If a defensive player jumps straight up to block a shot and the offensive player jumps into and creates contact with the defender, an offensive charging call could be made. "Could" be made but it clearly is not being made.

Walton gave great effort, Ryle did not last night, which is not usual for the Raiders. Congrats to figuring out a way to win. Shame on any Walton player, fan or coach who blames the refs for 11 missed free throws, an unforced turnover with possession and up 3 points late in overtime, etc.

Shame on the Ryle fans blaming the refs because they couldn't guard McNeil.

  3. Ryle had a chance to win at the end of regulation. Walton had a 3 point lead in OT with the ball and couldn't finish the deal. Zach Perkins got a key rebound off a missed FT and stuck it back in to give Ryle a 1 point lead with only 15 or so seconds left in OT. Zach McNeil had a pretty good look for the win, but the ball went in and came back out. Walton fouled for the final margin. Really fun game to watch.

  4. Final on Williamstown's senior Night. Seniors Chelsea west led with 19, Tori Wilhoit had 13 and Haley Rothwell chipped in with 6. Congrats to 3 fine young ladies. On a side note. Coach Wilhoit was very emotional during the senior night activities. Guess grown men do cry!!

Great job Williamstown and congrats to their seniors. Coach Wilhoite does a great job.

  5. Observing the stat sheet from the game, I have noticed that half of W-V's twenty turnovers came from The Bearcat's post players, each with 5. Slavey had a nice line of 15 pts (5-7 FROM 3), 2 steals, 5 Assist and only 1 turnover.

People tend to only remember turnovers that lead to baskets for the other team. They sometimes forget the turnovers that take a basket away from their team.

  6. The guard play was not the only reason for the lose. Walton missed multiple point blank layups - good teams don't do that. Too many turnovers, but everybody contributed to that. Once again Walton is able to beat the press and fails to convert on the other end. I can only remember Walton turning the ball over 3 maybe 4 times in the back court. Walton seemed to play not to lose instead of finishing the game. I don't understand the Slavey move myself, or why you have your bigs on the lane with 8 seconds left, with the lead, instead of protecting the defensive basket, especially if you don't plan to foul on the miss. A lot of things went wrong tonight for Walton and Danville made them pay. Good job Danville.

  7. I thought Simon might have a hard time scoring against NCC especially if they are not making 3s. I'm sure coach Stowers will use this for motivation to get them ready for the stretch drive.

    Simon Kenton (10-7): Tomlin 2 0 4, Stephenson 1 0 3, Blevins 0 2 2, Wainscott 3 0 7, Owings 4 0 9, Orr 2 0 4, Morrison 0 1 1. Totals 12 3 30.

    Newport Central Catholic (13-3): Muench 3 2 8, Fryer 5 2 13, Kiernan 2 0 4, Thiem 5 6 17, Bartels 4 0 9, Buchanan 3 0 6, Huber 0 2 2. Totals 22 12 59.

    Simon Kenton 10 5 12 3 -30

    NewCath 16 15 19 9 -59

Three-point goals: SK-Stephenson, Wainscott, Owings. NCC-Fryer, Thiem, Bartels.

  8. W-V just keeps on rolling with another win. And with their win over South Oldham last Saturday, considering South's wins over Anderson and Owen this week, the Lady Bearcats look like the top team in the region - I guess. Is this true?

I think South is looking pretty good right now, but I wouldn't put Walton to far behind them. It appears Anderson is not playing very well at this point, but I'm sure that will change come tournament time.

  9. It's no secret WV is struggling against the press. If Coach Dawn can win without it now, might as well save it for an added wrinkle later.

I seen almost every Walton game, and I can't remember them struggling against a press this year (90% of their turnover are on their side of half court). They struggle when a team sets down in a good half court man to man. I know most teams don't press as well as NCC, but getting the ball across half court has not been the problem for Walton so far.

  10. Pretty much nailed it madman...but I would add that Walton runs too much of a structure offense which causes quite a bit of these unforced turnovers and they need to do more dribble drive in order to get shots.

I agree, but it is hard to drive when you run into your own players cutting thru the lane. Walton's offense doesn't usually allow for penetration it is more design to hit cutters. Which is why they struggle in half court games.
