Read Clyde's quote
Sec 2) Ineligibility for Repeating Students
A student having been enrolled in the fourth (4th) grade or in any
grade through twelfth (12th) shall not be eligible for interscholastic
athletics at the high school level (grades 9 through 12) for more
than a total of one (1) year in each grade and applicable eligibility
shall begin in the fi rst year enrolled in that grade. A student
repeating a grade for any reason is ineligible to participate in
interscholastic athletics at the high school level (grades 9 through
12) during the second year in that grade. The penalty for violation
of this rule shall be the loss of one of the four years of eligibility
after being promoted from grade nine (9). Policies regarding the
participation of repeating students at the levels of play below high
school interscholastic athletics shall be determined by the school
council pursuant to KRS 160.345 (2) (i).

I thought I heard if you hold a kid back in 8th grade that they can not compete on the high school level that hold back 8th grade year?
You are correct you can not play high school (9-V) during the hold back season. You can play 8th grade if your school allows it, but not high school. Your 4 year clock still will not start until the player has been promoted to 9th grade.
I'm not sure about practice.

Great player, great young lady and I think this is a very good fit for her. Congrats to Rianna and her family.

I do think WV girls b-ball fans are a bit over the top. However, to be fair, it might only be a few that are making all of the noise.
WV will get good applicants. Great school. Great community. Really good young talent coming through.
This is a hugh blow to the WV program. Coach Miller was a very class act and represented Walton well. Clyde, you are correct there are a few who have been very over the top about Coach Miller and they will be the same ones that won't like the next coach either. I don't know if what happens on a message board will scare any applicants off. Walton's administration will make a very good choice in the next coach. They got burnt 5 years ago, but made a very good hire in Coach Miller 3 years ago. Most of the same players will be involved in the new search. I doubt the Walton job will generate much interest in top flight coaches of bigger schools. If you are qualified, but let the pressure of winning or chatter on a message board bother you then you probably shouldn't apply. If someone wants to compete for a regional championship and grow a program over the next few years then Walton could be a very good place.

Second largest first round crowd (6,800 +) to watch a girls S16 game
BG had a great student section and I was really surprise at how many fans Walton had there. Walton had a great season and shouldn't hang their heads about this game. It was great they had the chance to experience such a wonderful event. It is always sad when seniors play their last game. Kelli Dixon will be missed there is no doubt, but the program seems to be heading in the right direction. Today - even though the score was not what I had hope for I was proud of each and every girl. Good luck to Bowling Green!

Forgot to mention that arguably, two of the best players in the tournament, McKee(Anderson) and Sandlin (W-V) did not make the All 8th Region team that was anounced a couple of weeks ago. Must of been a strong All Region team.
I have a hard time believing there are 15 players in the region better than McKee or Sandlin.

There was no foul at the end. This was a great game to watch and the refs did a good job. Walton just came up short, N.O. was more talented and I feel had a better game plan. The best team won on this night.
If you have the more talented team and the game hinges on one play then I'm not sure you had the best game plan. Believe me I'm not taking anything away from Coach Henley, but Coach Trame is a pretty good coach.
-
I have to admit that picked them in the pre season.....very nice WV.
Yes you did. The only thing that would of made this night better is if you would have been there taking pictures. Very proud of this group of young ladies. Congrats to the coaching staff, players and the whole athletic department at WV. See you in Bowling Green.

Final from New Castle. Congrats to both teams on a great game.

Might be a deadhorse, but most know that the only way Walton became good is the influx of players that have transferred into Walton for whatever reason anyone wants to say. If not for that, they would be average at best. Dixon would still be a very good player, but not having guards that can shoot the ball or another big that handles the ball well to feed her the ball would make her points harder to come by.
Don't forget Walton has had players leave to go elsewhere for whatever reason. Walton's success is directley related to the feeder program that was put into place by coach Sullivan 7-8 years ago.

D series; very nice photos.

This should be a great tournament for the fans to watch. I still think South Oldham is the team to beat, but I wouldn't be surprise if any one of 5 or 6 teams ended up in Bowling Green.
-
Walton Verona (22-8) -- Clinkenbeard 9, Mullikin 2, Slavey 5, Taulbee 5, Dixon 27, Sandlin 4.
Simon Kenton (16-10) -- Wainscott 17, Owings 8, Stephenson 4, Cook 10, Tomlin 4, Blevins 5.
-
Very nice win for coach Jones and his Wildcats.
-
Final per KHSAA scoreboard. A very good South Oldham team will not be making the trip to New Castle this year. Congrats to coach Henley and his North Oldham team.
-
Walton made 13 three pointers. To say Carroll shut down the inside game would be a little bit misleading. Dixon only played about a quarter due to illness.
-
She didn't need to score. She ran the show and the others stepped-up. She really didn't shoot much but made some free throws down the stretch. Owings did what she wanted because the defender from WV was too slow to stay with her. Don't quite understand putting the slowest defender on Owings who may be the fastest player on SK.
What!!! How about making layups. Walton tried to use their size, but too many point blank layups missed. Owings scored 12 points and that is what you call doing whatever you want. Wow I missed this game or saw a different game than you. Walton held Simon to 42 points you should win that game. Defense was fine, offense was terrible.
