I agree. What would this do to Jefferson County School Choice plan where students can go out of district to magnet or better performing schools?

Since all those schools are part of the JCPS I don’t think it will affect them. Now if a kid who lives on the edge of Jefferson county (who lives in the JCPS area) decided to go to a neighboring county school because it was closer or whatever reason then that player would sit. It would basically work how it does now for districts with open enrollment within the district’s schools.

He's coached under the principals father (Redman) 10yrs ago. It was a 5-1 split in the committee. 5 for another coach 1 for Oldham. 1 being the principal who has the final say. He was let go from Jtown after an incident which can be looked up. Really expected more from the administration at Carroll but that's been fail point for that school for some time. However he's coming into a pretty solid team that should be very strong. We'll see how he incorporates his son a incoming Senior to the mix.

The Principal is Bob Redman’s daughter? What position does his son play?

This is on my mind too, one way of looking at it would be many freshman would have to sit out their freshman year period.  But that can't be right, right!?

The more I think about the more I believe this is how it will work with private schools.

Private schools fall into pretty much two groups. Catholic schools or non Catholic schools. The Catholic schools will say that the student is moving from one in district school to another In district school without a change of address because the student lives in the diocese. Diocese appear to be fairly large areas. Non Catholic schools will pretty much claim that the whole state is their district because most don’t have boundaries as along as the student can make it to school. So in their case a student is moving from one district school to another in district school.

The problem I believe is when you transfer to a school that has open boundaries. I’m just going to use Beechwood as an example because I believe you can attend there if you are out of district assuming you meet all the criteria. Criteria being financially you can pay any fees that may be required and meet any student standards (not a discipline problem etc). So if you live in Boone but not the Beechwood school district and you transfer you will have to sit. You are moving from a district school to a non district school.

  4. Maybe I am reading this incorrectly. I am reading this as if I transfer to a school in which I don’t live in that district I have to sit. So schools that accept students from outside their borders would be affected by this.

If I move (from Indiana, Ohio or from wherever) and I move into a new district that becomes the district of residency. In that case I don’t have to sit due to this.

That is how I am currently reading it.

Tell me you aren't trying to say that the coaches at Douglass work harder to promote their players and devote more time to making their players/team the best they can be than most other coaches do in the state...

This is not meant to come across as argumentative. I agree there are a lot of programs that do an excellent job developing and promoting their athletes.

There are a little over 200 schools that play football I believe. So how do we determine what a majority is?

Douglas is one of the best programs at promoting their athletes. Many in the state have noticed and have begun to copy their methods. They take a very hands on approach to it. They also produce top level graphics, videos, and are very good with social media. They have developed a number of very good relationships with colleges, especially big name D1 schools.

Athletic development is something else they do extremely well. They have one of the top S&C coaches in the state. Most programs don’t even have a true S&C coach. They have a top level weight room that was patterned after SEC schools. They do a number of more modern approaches to development and injury prevention.

Either Lexington has had an uptick in talent or Douglas has found a way to tap into that talent, develop and promote it. People see the talent and act as if it just showed up. That they are just rolling out the ball there. The success they’ve had is yes due to talent but also to all the other things they do. Believe it or not not everyone could walk through those doors and do what the staff has done.

  6. The whole thing from what I’ve pieced together is really strange. When I first heard it was a possibility I created the thread about it. There were all kinds of Facebook posts making it sound like he was no longer the HC. In one of those post was the petition. From the ones speaking out it also appeared that this wasn’t a very popular decision.

Now who knows what’s going on. Maybe he was never officially let go. Maybe they did a 180 on the decision. Maybe they already knew who they wanted to replace him with and they are going about it in a strange way.

Recently as a program they’ve been kind of interesting. For a 2A school they have pretty good numbers (40-50 kids). They have pretty good athletes. Their facilities are at least above average with turf and indoor practice area. They at least appear to have decent community support. The district is favorable and until they switched to sister districts one  would have a home playoff game with a chance to go three rounds deep. So from the outside in things look good. Then this , whatever this is, happens and it throws up all kinds of red flags.

I have been on both sides and everyone wants to make money while working. It costs more to do business these days for both the official and the schools. Gas is at an all time high.  We lose several good officials each year to college as they pay more. When I was running a school I could do a game for around $300. No way now as you have to pay everyone and have security. I think it would cost over $1000 to open the doors for a game these days.  Hard decisions have to be made. Glad I am retired and watch ESPN most nights?

1300.00 just to have a game now. More if you can’t find gate workers and have to pay for them.

This seems to be a running trend at Shelby County with athletic hires here recently.  You look at baseball hires lately, all little league/travel ball coaches that coached the Principals kids.

As a former Shelby resident, who had family that were a part of the Shelby County football program, I've seen from a far how great the Shelby County program has been in the past, and how great of job Todd Shipley did there for many years with not as much talent as what is had across town at Collins High School.

There were many coaches that put in for this job.  I know that some alumni players who are now coaches at other high schools interviewed.  There were also coaches that are or were head coaches at the high school level that also interviewed.  I have heard the same that many are not happy with the hire, especially knowing who some of the other candidates were.

From Shelby Co born and raised. My parents graduated from Shelby. I hate reading the above. Sports were always a big thing for the County. Baseball, football, basketball, and just about any sport there was a pride to play at a high level.

I would be curious to know who all applied for the position. Especially former players to see if any of my former teammates applied. I hope the hire goes well. If for some reason it doesn’t hopefully it doesn’t damage/setback the program too much.
