You are absolutely right on -as usual. Having been around for some time, I have seen first hand the evolution of T. And, also remember the original "charge" when T was founded to "Provide a place for all" - students. I think it is fantastic that T makes a place for all students and provides a place for them to reach their full potential. Have had many a parent tell me how grateful they were for the programs that T had to offer.

[sorry -- got off subject just a 'tidge.']

Thanks for clearing this up! Boy! I sure started a fire storm!! This is exactly where I was going. I hope this closes this thread and we can move on. GO ROCKS! #20!

  2. That type of snobbiness and belief is driving the separation between public and privates. I am all for Go Tigers and go Rocks but you used the term "better". It comes off as an elitist. There are "better" people in every school. I would submit Nicole Scherzinger, Manual graduate, lead singer from the Pussycat Dolls and winner of Dancing with the Stars is better in her field than most every Trinity and St X grad.

Ease up jimmyref! I didn't mean it that way! All I meant was... he would become a better person. I'm not pitting T and X against anyone outside those walls. I don't expect you to understand where I'm coming from if you didn't attend T or X. FYI! Nicole is a fantastic young lady... I served communion to her for a number of years. GO ROCKS! #20!

  3. CentreRocks I am not saying St. Xavier does not also encourage the best athletes from all over to come to their school, it is just another area that Trinity is doing better at than St. Xavier. It is not just the coach's although who aid in this effort. It is the total communities of each program and the programs' success that aids in this area. It is one of the reasons St. Xavier and especially Trinity has done to distance themselves from other Jefferson County schools. With arguably some of the best talent in Jefferson County schools this year, St. Xavier nor Trinity in the end were even closely contested. St. Xavier as well as Trinity is open to all as I think you and I can both agree, but more than ever on both teams athletes from the other than traditional CSAA route to the schools is contributing greater and greater to the programs. Nothing wrong with this, it is just a changing demographic that I feel is improving both football teams and keeping them ahead of the competition.

Well said Alan60! What alumni from both schools and people in the community have to understand is the demographic in Louisville has changed since the 70's and 80' when T and X were 99% catholic (Just a guess). The economy, increasing tuition cost at the grade school and high school levels have reduced the number of boy's to draw from during the 2000's. Just look at the number of Catholic parishes which have combined with other parishes in the community. It's simple math. Bottom line is if a non-catholic student wants to go to T or X to play football, basketball, baseball etc., good for them. When they graduate, they will be a better person for our community. Isn't that what we want? I personally know kids who attended both school that told me they didn't really understand the true brotherhood that exist within, until they became seniors and/or returned after graduating for various events. This in know way is a dig at the publics...and I mean no disrespect to anyone's Alma Matter. I'm just stating the facts. Why do you think the alumni base is so strong at both schools. Those who might disagree with my assessment, have never been in the halls of of both schools. Let's move on... the Rocks have a game with Ryle on Friday! Well it's time to get off my soap box. GO ROCKS! #20!

  4. Thanks for the congrats OX! This game kinda went the way I thought it might. Both teams coming out of the gate strong and with a lot of confidence. After the Tigers first offensive position the Rocks adjusted to X's one-dimensional play calling and shut them down. I guess Glazer's big change was the wishbone! Not very creative... With NO passing game, down by two scores it was to difficult for X to come back. You could see Hall and Beech cramping and slow to get up from playing both ways. Again, X seemed disorganized on there substitution pattern and play calling. Not something you see at this late juncture of the season. Glazer is a great guy off the field, but he is in terrible denial concerning which team is the better team. 82-7 say's it all... Nice hand shake at the end of the game. Also, great PA announcer for the game... what a voice!!! It's on to Ryle for a date with the Raiders. Should be a great game! GO ROCKS! #20!

  5. I have no idea why we didn't take a knee, but this thought occurs to me. Considering that we likely knew at that point that the next round of the playoffs we would be facing a much better X team, could it possibly have been we were practicing end of game strategy with some key players? I mean, with the exception of a few games, our key players have been pulled well before the end of the game. Could it be that we wanted to get some "end game" experience?

    Very good point Rockmom!!

  6. Most on here know nothing of the 2 timeouts Manual called with less than 1 minute remaining when T was trying to take a knee in victory formation the first time they played! Manual kept their 1s in to try to score against Trinity's 2s (which they did by throwing deep), then kicked an onside kick with less than a minute to play (down 42-7), THEN called the two time outs when T was taking a knee!. I still disagree 100% with what Beatty did, but there IS a bigger story. Add to that the cheap shots Manual players were throwing when they knew their season was over and I guess Beatty had had enough. Again, I don't agree with what he did, but anyone who thinks he was PICKING a fight is just wrong.

As for the Manual AD, he was being a parent who just happened to be in a position to go out onto the field. He had absolutely no business being out there. Period. When is the last time anyone has seen their AD make it a point to get into it with another coach after a game? Please. As embarrassed as Beatty should be, Zuberer should be more so. Everyone wants to hold Beatty to a higher standard (which i am fine with) but then give Zuberer a free pass! OMG. Thank goodness Manual has a coach who gets it (I give all the credit in the world for Dr. Lucas calling - or accepting - the truce) because the leadership of their AD leaves a lot more to be desired than anyone wants to admit.

CF! This saved me a bunch of time! I'm coping sports fan's homework... as I stated before, I would have taken a knee... GO Rocks! #20! This thread needs to be closed. Let's move on to the games for this week!

  7. I think you also have to consider what the needs are of the winning team. Are certain players coming off an injury and need the reps? Does the team need to learn how to play a full (or almost a ) full game? Does the team need to work on certain things in anticipation of upcoming games? One could argue that the losing team has put themselves in the embarrassing position and that is not necessarily the winning's team problem. The primary focus of the winning team is improving their team, I would think, not worrying about their opponent's feelings. I don't know that there is a bright line between right and wrong on this. Keep in mind that sportsmanship is not confined to just the game itself. It is the acts and comments leading up to a game and afterwards as well.

I agree! Well said! Some people on hear have never been in the trenches having to prove themselves to find a spot on the 1st team. When you get the opportunity to play, you give it 110% with respect for your competition. Most times it's at the end of the game and looks like a team is running up the score and sometime a team just runs up the score. It's football!!!

  8. Glaser can be annoying and sometimes full of crap but never as classless as yelling and screaming at an AD. Beatty did nothing to help peoples' perception of him for sure! Not sure even Trinty fans can argue that.. And please don't say Dawkins is not a big piece if the first teams sets.

Go Tigers, pull off the upset of the century.

Coach Beatty and his staff is the best in the business... I love when people on this thread just blurt out bold factless statements about a particular situation they no nothing about.

  9. Good Lord, what is it with these threads whining about what their view of class is because a team they don't care for put another score on the board at the end of a PLAYOFF game? A suggestion for some, maybe a switch to a nice game like bowling or table tennis is more suitable for you....

No, Trinity or their coach is NOT classless. It's football for crying out loud. Toughen up, I know the kids are able to handle it, you should be able to as well.

Thank you!!! Finally someone gets it... this wasn't a 3rd grade flag football game. It's the playoffs with two teams that don't like each other. Why don't some of you take this thread over to the Moore vs Central game that ended in the 3rd quarter.

  10. T has been labeled by those that have played them this year as being much more "thug'ish" than anyone has ever seen out of the storied program. I would venture to say that most of KY will be rooting for X this Friday, and very few outside of Rock nation will be proud should this Trinity team win it all. Has Trinity sold out on some of the values that made it great in order to win even more?

Funny! I'm sure the next 3 years everyone will be rooting against Trinity! Does this really matter? Not!!!

  11. Please...educate me. Educate ALL OF US....because as the facts are presented, there is ZERO justification for those actions. None.

Let me say, if it were me, I would have taken a knee. After knowing why a knee was not taken, I understand the call to run and I say run, not pass the ball was called. I'm not going to pass along the reasoning on this forum. I'll will say, it stems from the ending of the first meeting between these two teams. Let's just agree to disagree and move forward. GO ROCKS! #20

  12. This should be a closer game than the first one for lots of reasons. Daylan Hall is healthy. he can be a difference maker. It makes no difference which quarterback X uses (Brohm, Mattingly) they will run,run and run some more. X will throw up every misdirection gadget play as there passing attack. The Rocks will need to play turnover free and jump on the Tigers early to force them out of the run game. Both teams have started slow in the the first quarter, so I really don't see that as an issue unless the margin is three scores. In the end, I think the Trinity balance of run, pass will be to much for X. The chess match begins at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. I hope the Rocks make all the right moves... should be a great game... GO ROCKS! #20!

P.S. Congrats to the Trinity Cross Country team for winning a state record 18th State Championship on Saturday. St. X should take there pre-printed Cross Country Championship shirts and cake and file it with there 2005 pre-printed back-to-back football championship hoodies after Trinity defeated the Tigers 14-6.

  13. Instant Analysis from Rivals.com - nice writeup from Senior Analyst Dallas Jackson.

The end game antics are detailed at the bottom of the page. If these details are true, and I have no reason to think they aren't, I have lost so much respect for the Trinity program, I can't even begin to tell you. What an absolute joke! There aren't enough nasty words I could use to describe Coach Beatty so I won't even try.

Up 41-13 with 30 seconds left...you take a knee, PERIOD...END OF DISCUSSION. What you DO NOT do is run a play and score a TD. And even if you decide to be classless and do that, what YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT EVER DO is run ANOTHER PLAY when the first one got called back because of a penalty and score ANOTHER MEANINGLESS TD!!!

And people wonder why there is desire to stick the privates in their own tourny? Really?

If you only knew the whole story...

  14. Congrats to the Rocks! Game went as I expected. Manual running back is not a factor (20 carries for 59 yards). Thanks for the bulletin board material! Great job by the defense. Manual AD needs to stay off the field. That's for coaches and players! Coach Beatty let him know that. Manual head coach is a great guy. He wasn't part of the verbal exchange. Dawkins is so fast, his shadow can't find him. Foes get to watch him for 2+ years. Next for the Rocks... a State Championship Game against the Tigers on Poplar Level Road at the Pizza Palace. Should be a fun week. GO ROCKS! #20!

  15. Just curious, how many people play both ways for Ballard? What positions do they play? How about St. X?

Not sure about Ballard. I just noticed at the Trinity/Ballard game, the same numbered jerseys were playing skilled positions on both sides of the ball. For X two impact players come too mind. Devontae Beach plays linebacker and running back. Dalyen Hall plays strong safety and sometimes running back. Question? Is Lamont McMurray still on the team?

  16. If I wasn't a Rock fan, I would be at this game! Should be fun to watch!!! Ballard has a lot of talent and could pull this off. They would have to have zero turnovers and get past the mental thing. I don't see that happening. The Tigers one-dimensional offense (run, run and run some more) is still to much for the two-way players from Ballard. X-34 - B-21

  17. This should be a better game than the first meeting when the Rocks crushed the Crimsons. Manual's tough schedule has prepared them for the playoffs. Trinity's speed and versatility on offense will be unstoppable. On defense, with Hatcher back from injury, the Rocks will be primed and focused for Manual's misdirection run game. Should be an exciting game. Rocks win (48-13) and take one more step towards #20!

  18. A blowout win is a blowout win! Rocks were flat and focus was not there at the beginning of the game. The Rock star sophomores starting in their first playoff game of many to come, came out a little over confident and short on focus. Typical 1 verses 4 matchup. Coach Beatty fixed that in a hurry at halftime and looked better in the second half. The run game blocking created an interstate for Dawkins and Bishop. Defense will be at full strength next week with Jason Hatcher back in the lineup. He's a great pass rusher and requires a double team. T's DB's need to work on pass coverage across the middle. That will be corrected at film on Saturday morning. I hope the PRP kids that were hurt are OK! The center was a real trooper playing in the second half on a taped high ankle sprain. Bring on Manual next week and lets live to play another day... GO ROCKS! #20!

  19. Trinity would make the playoffs in Ohio, but they wouldn't be sitting pretty with 19 state titles if they were in the Buckeye state, IMO.

The early 2000's when the Rocks had Brohm, they would've won multiple titles. The year Elder won the state title, the Rocks absolutely destroyed them.

Next year, I'd take Trinity over ANY team in Ohio. Period.

Took the words out of my mouth! Look! We all know the best football talent in America comes out of Florida, Texas, California, Ohio and Pennsylvania. If Trinity and St. X and a few other tradition rich schools in the bluegrass were in those states competing for the same athletes, they would be winning there share of titles. It's not apples to apples. Trinity is on top here with what they have to draw from. The next two years the Rocks will be a national power weather you like it or not. We are looking for some games to fill out the schedule for next year. Mention it to your favorite team's Athletic Director. Bring it on!!
