  1. On the positive side of this for a coach.

    1. No QB issues, you have one in Dalton for 5-10 years. Some may think he will be gone, he won't.

    2. Talent at the skill positions is in upper half of league

    3. D-line needs upgrade but both Dunlap and Atkins are Pro Bowl caliber players.

    4. Overall D talent is good

    Minuses:

    1. O-line is in bad shape.

    2. Aging at some positions on Defense

    3. The enigma that is Mike Brown.

Overall, this is a very good job and coaches know it.

This one would be hard to deal with.

  2. There isn't a ton of precedent for something like this. A few years ago, after building a new building, Deming High School was changed to Robertson County High School. It appears that the same thing is happening in Martin County. There are no other examples of single-high school counties in Kentucky not having the county name in the school title.

Deming's was named after the people who gave the school the land to build it on. It was only changed when they built the new school at a different location.

  3. Birds played good, but congrats to the Dawgs on the nice comeback.

Since it was the 1st game for both there were quite a few things that you would expect to see.....too many missed gimmes (especially Holmes) and turnovers. Both teams got after it on both sides of the court.

If game one is any indication how the season will go for the Birds, If they are open from anywhere on the floor, they will launch from distance. I was really impressed with the play of Finfrock, he is a load down low. His size only is enough to warrant the ball in the paint on EVERY trip down the floor. Unfortunately the Birds failed to get him the ball in the 2nd half, as they did in the 1st......but give the Dawgs defense some credit for that.

Jaiden Greene for the Dawgs is going to give some teams fits with his length and ability to drive to the glass and Hollis is a very nice addition to the Holmes line-up. The Dawgs definitely have the talent to run the floor.

I know it's only the 1st game, but this Birds team looked a lot better than last year's.

That is what I was expecting, but this score was closer than I thought it'd be. I'd say Highlands would be improved though. Could be a good season for Highlands!

  4. Yep. I see no more gloom and doom over the last few days, than I saw over the last 8 years. It's just coming from a different side. Neither side has shown the ability to be good winners or grateful losers.

I'm anxious to see if Trump can and will do everything he said he would and to see exactly what his policies will be.

I've felt like I've been dealing with a sports team loss. At least social media makes it feel like I've been.

  5. While many people will continue to argue against global warming, they can't deny that humans are the makers of the destruction of the world. I mean, look at the trash on the roads, the little consideration for the forests and animals, and how we treat each other.

Made myself sound like a hippie, but man, we are a sad species.

  6. Cats pulled away at the end. The knights kept it close throughout. Didn't see the start but it looked as if Augusta legend Brent Bach got the start. Rusty Troutman led all scoring with 20.

Fredrick did not play nor did Ben Weyer who I heard is having foot issues for Bellermine. Cov Cath walk on Zach Tobler did not get in for the Cats.

Just loved seeing all of the KY boys on the rosters.

Good luck to the D2 third ranked Nights the rest of the season. (Except for one game on December 7th).

That's the night Bellarmine will pull off the win. :D

  7. I believe that is an argument that they have hung their hats on, yes. However I'm not sure it's a valid one. As stated, several other states allow this, so obviously there is something in those states where the insurance component either isn't an issue or they have done something to ensure it isn't an issue.

My non-KHSAA boys basketball team plays IHSAA school teams every year. IN does not have the same restriction KY has, being similar to what TN allows.

So in this case, if the KHSAA changes the Bylaw, then you would be able to play other KHSAA teams?

What is the reason for the KHSAA teams not being allowed to play non-KHSAA teams? Is it because they aren't members of the KHSAA?

  8. It's of no benefit to have a school like that in the association...again my opinion. So that school is technically in someone's district, and for what? I might understand it a little better if there were not other options available for athletic participation, but there are. I just think there should be a minimum limit set for participation to ensure those schools can field teams in a minimum number of sports. Does it hurt me that they are in? Not one bit. But that doesn't keep me from having the opinion that they probably shouldn't be. Now if they are paying the same dues everyone else is to be a member (are dues paid to be a member?:idunno:) I understand why the KHSAA would allow them, they won't turn down money.

A school that size can compete in sports such as Tennis, Cross Country, Track, and Cheerleading. They may not be able to field a team such as basketball, softballball, or baseball, but still have those options.

Also, the KHSAA is not going to deny anyone entry. That would cause them to lose money on their part.

Finally, the school you are referring to, Holy Family (Ashland), is just restarting its high school and I would think that eventually their enrollment would go up.
