  1. I absolutly had no input in these rankings. As most folks know that have been around a few years, rankings are mostly based on previous performance ( a little credit to returning starters etc. ). Having said that and the recent track record that Rocks bring to the table, HOW in anyones world can the Rocks not be No. 1??? Just dont understand it... only can say it is staged to sell more BGP memberships etc. LOL.... As for the Tigers, it is a nice honor, wont get you a cup of coffee or anything like that... We all know the final ranking is the TRUE Ranking... Same ole same ole. Male, Manual and St.X make up the most difficult DISTRICT in the state. Maybe playing a weaker schedule does pay dividens in high school football....

Hey, Male is not in your DISTRICT so stop with the we have the hardest schedule junk.

  2. On occasion I've listened to both St X and Trinity coverage on the radio. To say the least I'm not a big fan of the homer-ism. Not so much because they support their teams but because they often project negatively upon their opponents, often suggesting unsportsmanlike behavior and emphasizing the negative aspects of the opponent with little self criticism, it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I can tell you that there was some rumbling last season @THS b/c not enough homer-ism i.e. too much criticism from broadcast team.

That being said, what suggestions would BGPers make so that the Rock broadcast would be worth listening to regularly.

I'm in the not so critical camp...but mostly, I like what I hear when I can get reception.

I give X the 1 spot due to more returning starters.

  4. I agree, just from the X side. But the best part of the rivalry is when T or X loses to each other, they find it in themselves to cheer for their cross town rival in the next game. In all sports as well. I didn't do that as a student, but Catholic pride get stronger with age. :thumb:
    I agree!
  5. For me I don't care if it was a football game, horse shoes or pickup sticks if it is an X guy I am playing against, I want to win(to be the best you should try to beat who you consider to be the best competiton). So yes the regular sesaon game still means a ton to me. To say that it does not or to even imply such is grounds for excommunication! Now buy a beer for Ox as an act of contrition.

  6. You are right Henry Clay has not stopped Trinity. However in 05 they played cov.2. In o6 they played cov.4. Only o7 did they go man-to-man. I guess next time they will be cov.3 or something that hasn't been invented yet.
T will only stop itself on O but it can be slowed down and the only scheme's that work are of the 4-4 or 3-5-3. These are only run well with very good coaching.
  7. Bio,

Very insightful...you're almost on the money. As an X parent/fan, I agree that X's line play has been a bit better than T's in the regular season due to the 2 way linemen T puts on the field. By playoff time, T's guys are conditioned and seasoned to go 4 quarters. I disagree with your criticism of Glaser....X has had their oppurtunties, didn't capitalize, didn't finish, didn't execute...etc, but it wasn't because of coaching. You can Monday morning quaterback 05 and 07 to death but the bottom line is that the Rock players made plays at crunch time when we didn't. Kick a field goal, fake a PAT, don't audible, give it to Duece, etc....who knows what happens if different calls came in from the booth.

We weren't outfoxxed, just outplayed at crucial times. That's football.

Male and Manual will be very tough this year IMO...that being said if X loses to either it will mean X wasn't prepared to play. That will on the coaches because X has too much talent to lose to either. Against T, the talent is roughly equal with T having maybe a couple more marquee players in Superman, Jordan and Messina. Looking forward to it.

Parkway I was not trying to be critical of Glaser and the staff, just what I have seen from them (X) since I played. I used 2005 and 2007 as the examples not to be rehasing but rather to point out that it has proved out to be the case. You are correct that the out come could have been different had it not been for one play or another. Point being that the X-T regular season game has not been that cloe and that it has been the dominance of the X line play that has made it so. I really don't have a problem with the offensive philosophy as I love the power game it is just that X always seems to peak early and I think it has more to do with the lack of something more added come playoff time( to the O scheme, as the D is always top tier) then something of major change. All I am saying is that to beat an X team today one has to match the line play in order to have a chance. For Manual to really compete with X they must over come this. I will say that the reason Manual has played well against T in past years is that the type of really good players they have year to year is a better match up against our style of play on O, less power more spread the field. Male had it all in 2006 just came up short. Manual I felt had it in 2003 but lost to many kids to the injury bug. I really feel that the only differnce for T has been the style (offense) we play, it just gives us more opportunities to score in close games and we have gotten great at doing that.
  8. Until Manual can clear the hump against X, the Big 4 talk is just annoying to everyone, including Crimson supporters.

I think it depends on how you define 'compete.'

Manual has been competitve (in games) with Male and Trinity lately, but the matchup with X has been killer. In terms of hardware, no one is competing with Trinity at the moment.

It has been stated before but I feel the key factor for Manual geting over the hump with X is the front line play on both sides of the ball. This is the key and as long as Glaser is the HC it will always be so. T has had difficulty in the regular season game with X due to some kids having to go both ways but not really having had enough playing time or practice time at the second position specifically the D line, hense the domince X has been showing off in the regular season game. T uses the regular season and playoff games very well in so far as pulling the kids together. By the time we play X in the state these kids who are going both ways are ready. 2005 and 2007 are perfect illustrations of what I am saying. Manual has the same issues with X twice a year but until Manual can match the line play I do not see them knocking off X.

  9. John Hardin yes...

Very good point of a public school that has the support of the community and a very good head coach. As was the case back in the day when Brown was at Nelson. A public school could become as good as X and T every year if the support is provided. BC did it all through the 80's and early 90's. It is ha hard road to travel which is why we only have a hand full of programs in the State of KY that are considered the best.

  10. I really don't care who won the scrimmage. The main thing is Trinity got over a hundred reps against one of the best teams in the state. By all accounts it appears that Cameron Smyth, the new quarteback, handled himslef very well against a top notch team. That is very impressive, and speaks volumes about Cameron and the staff based on the lack of experience he's had at qb in his years at Trinity.

CR this is exactly the point of 7 on 7, you are on the money. it is all about timing and to have the opportunity to do that work against one of the best programs in the state is priceless!

  11. Ave run play runs 45 sec off the clock. that is from snap till blown dead. If a team runs 3 straight run plays and runs the clock down to under 10 youcan run 3 min off the clock easy. Ryle failed on a wide open PA pass on 2nd down which stopped the clock.

1st poss by T was 3 and out

    Ryle 3 ond out

    T scores 1 -2 plays later on a screen

So on 2 plays they gain 7 (1 was an INC).

T plays plays 62 vs power. Run speed option. they are locked up Man on the outside. run outside veer. Force/invite T to run the ball. Cuts the game down to a shorter game. It gives you more of a chance then getting into a track meet with them. At that time they had a soph RB coming off a leg injury and after playing one of the best teams in the state. Make the kid carry the ball 20-25+ times during the game.

Now I am not saying Ryle would have won using that concept but it keeps the score down. Against good teams you need them to make a few mistakes. they are 15-18 yr old and they will make mistakes. For all that is good in this world they have Coverdale as the OC which means you have the odds against you right there. You have to make the game shorter unless some how you can run them off the field which unless you are Guz Mazhalen is not going to happen.

Barrel you make some very good points, however as I think it was rockpride who stated that Boone Co. this past playoff season came with an offensive game plan that for my money is the way to beat T. Ryle did not have enough of a passing game to make this a close game. X has the best running attack in the state year in and year out and they have had to add more passing to the attack then Glaser would like, to beat T and looking at the playoff history of the last several years X has not done so well. You are correct in saying to beat T one must keep the T offense off of the field. As for making T run the ball, come playoff time I always like our chances running the ball as the running attack comes on late in the season for T, so I do not think it would have made much of differance in the outcome or for that matter the margin of score come the final play. Trinity was going to win by a large margin in that game any way you slice it.
  12. If they do switch to the Michigan offense, is this crazy to think would they move Justin Green to qb and let him run out of the gun like McFadden did at Arkansas. Or am I just thinking crazy?

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. But only if they can get a line.

  13. "sources" inside Male's program stating that they have a Freshman QB coming in that Redman believes could be as good as his son (chris) was. Now, whether or not this is true remains to be seen and only time will tell, but I do agree with one poster's comment...if they DONT have a QB to run Redman's aggressive offense, it will be a long year.

I am also told that Redman has expressed interest in West Virginia's (soon to be Michigan) offense. Cant see Redman doing that but who knows with him.

I would state that if Redman would ever swallow his pride and change his defense now that just about everyone can throw the ball, the defense is going to kill them more than anything. But that is like me stating that George Washington was the first US president...everyone knows this!

I can see Red running this type of O as it would fit very well with the type of players he has year in and year out. It also lends itself to the kid at QB who can run well but is not the typical Male throwing QB. As for the D, Redman could run a 3-3-5 stack and cause a lot of teams major problems with the skill kids Male usully has.

  14. The same can be stated for 1997 and possibly 1975. 1974, St. X had the better the team and prevailed 3-0 in the playoffs after winningthe regular season matchup 21-0. As I have stated previously, I understand St. Xavier's philosphy is there are games won and games the Tigers should have won. They've never lost a game due to the other team being better prepared, better athletically or better coached.

6A semi-finals should be very interesting. Many, many starters are being replaced at both "green schools". The forthcoming season will be a strong test for both programs. Trinity may average only 28 points a game and rely more heavily on ball control offense and a stingy defense. St. Xavier will ride their running game as far as it can take them and also rely on several newcomers to their defense. 7 on 7 will be here soon!

First we have to change/modify the D for it to become stingy. I will agree given the potetial talent on the D side we could be a very good defensive team in 08 but only if the talent is cut lose more condusive to the abilities of the players.

  15. Biotech - What about the two all-americans at LB and RB??? Superman Phillips and Whiting (sp?) w/ Ohio State....? I would not count out any Trinity team until they have been defeated and turned in their equipment. The Rocks are the prohibitive favorite regardless of who they don't have coming back. Just don't forget that the franchise players of Phillips and Whiting are all the seed Trinity needs to bag another title.....

Riverside very good points about Tim and Jordan. However if you reread what i wrote they are not the big keys to what makes the Rock Offense so great. Tim came on late in the year and played so very well like he had in late 06. He was the icing on the cake for an already very dangerous O in both years 06 and 07 I expect that in 08 it will be much of the same for Tim. Jordan will lead our D as well as any star LB has in the past, but in the modern age of Trinity football as the O will go so do the chances of T winning State.

  16. How can you call yourself a rock supporter and say T is not going to win in 08 and 09?

I call it like I see it. I Love Trinity and have for 41 years but the Rocks will not win this year. Trinity has as much of a chance as any good team but this mix of players is missing two key factors that the last three teams have had. OL with three returning starters and a QB that not only understands the system but can control a game. I know everybody is going to say that Stein was a one year starter and all but that kid was a proven winner long ago. he had that special something that I do not see in the up coming QB's for 08. I hope to be wrong but do not think that I am.
