Xgrad not this year T is not going to come back in a rematch and prove they can stop the X offense. T has still to find an effective Oline and then find a running game. I would like to be wrong but I just think this is the year X wins. Nice win for the tigers tonight looking forward to giving you a better game in DEC.It does not appear that X is working on their passing game any. I think I recall 10 tosses in the last game, how many tonight? This will come back to haunt them. -
Offesne is not the issue. 360 total yrds gained against X without two OL starters, not bad. The issue is and will continue to be the bad scheme the D plays against X, fix that and T has a good chance of winning the next meeting between the two.
-
I agree and even though T will improve X will win the next game as well for this very reason(improved Offense). It will be a closer game and more of what people expected to see this past Friday, but X will win.I still think this St.X team has a lot of upside, especially on offense. Unlike past years they will continue to improve the next few weeks and should be even stronger in the playoffs barring injuries. -
If you look at the majority of those points it started in 2004 when we got our current D guru. Glaser and staff own TB, he just keeps getting out coahed in the regular season game. Frankly it gets old. I know it is all about the titles but this game to the old timers still means a lot.Interesting to note, that T, Team 2000, has been outscored by the Tigers this decade 220-181 thus far. I'll be the first to say we haven't gotten it done when it REALLY counted, but I thought this was interesting. -
No but if you do nothing at all it sure does make it easier for the other team. X had a nice O game plan but it could have been defended much much better. I will just say T has a long way to go.You can't put 11 in the box when a team can pass the ball. You can't rob Peter to pay Paul. X is finally getting it. -
You just said just about everything I wanted to say. As a former Trinity defensive player I am sick of the same bad play year in and year out against X, then everyone using the excuss that the O will get better and we will out score them in the playoffs. Hey we have the kids on the D side to shut down a power running team but the coach has to put them (players)in a positon to make plays. Bad coaching tonight really bad.:mad::mad:Trinity better fix the defense if it wants to win #19. I thought at times the defensive schemes were unsound. I mean I have never even seen the worst grade school coaching come up with some of the things Trinity does, like leaving the entire middle of the field without a LB or taking the OLB 25 yards from the ball to cover a WR. If Trinity can't stop the run then it will not win in the rematch. Combination of poor schemes and poor tackling made for a bad defensive performance. I thought Cam Smyth played very well with what he had to work with. Too many penalties and mistakes on the OL, all of which will be corrected. The defense just left me wondering if #19 is possible. -
The major issue as has been stated many times for the regular season game beween these two has been that Trinity has not been playing really good defense. The playoff(State games) Trinity has play very sound defense and the games have been very competitive. Trinity seems to be playing better defensively this year heading into what should be the first of two meetings this season. For this reason I see this game being played very close until the end as opposed to the past four years( not counting the 06 game ) when X has totally dominated the line play. T 21-X 14 OT win.

The win you speak of was one of the best games Manual had played but that was due to the very good players coach Nichols had on that squaed. If not for the many injuries that season it might have been the year for Manual. Ifs and buts.Coach N will never have 100+ freshmen show up for a season. Coach N will never have as many assistant coaches. Coach N will never have the support of an entire prep league to draw from. Coach N will never have the tremendous support from a community as large as X or T.What he will have is
One of the only public school programs to stand toe to toe with the privates
A dedicated teams who fights for him
A current record of no loses to any school in Kentucky not named X, T, or Male in the last three years
A team that gives everything to be the best they can be
I really HATE negative opinions of coach Nichols that circulate through the private programs.
The Manual program has been something since Nichols has been there.
Oh and I forgot, he already has a win verse Trinity.

Time will tell, I think the O is better just by vertue of the balance. I know the running game is the same and as Finch heals it will only get better. The D may not be the same but having a really balnced O can help make the difference, just look at T.This X team is good, but not as good as last years squad. -
Manual is not close to being as good as last year and X just might be better. X by as much as they want.
-
You are so very correct in that statement. X Lou has both a very good running game and what seems to be a good passing game this year(more balance). I was surprised by the lack of running by Cinn X with a 5yrd per carry avg, playing with the empty set most of the night makes it easier for the D. Great win for the Rocks. Now that I finally have my power back I can say good job T. We should have a lot of fun in 2 weeks. -
Now I like our chances we always play highly ranked X teams great at PJ, oh wait that only happens in the playoffs.Home field advantage and X has already played in numerous collegiate/pro stadiums this year. -
Ok Ox you can always sit on the X (Cinn)side and cheer for the Rocks if that would make it more palatable.:jump:What a revolting development that is!! :irked: :irked: -
No way is this the best T defense in 20 years, we have not even played a good offensive team yet. Friday will reveal a lot about this D. I think we have very good players just not a good scheme.Best Trinity defense in 20+ years. Maybe even better than the defense that sported the names of Harrison,Tapp, Hoff and Dombrowski. No team will score 20 or more on this D. -
This game will only prove what many had said before the season started 6A football is down this year outside the big two. X wins BIG.
-
I would love to see the Rocks knock off Cinn X but the D will not stop the power run game X has nor the play-action pass. T does not have the O at this point of the season they had last year hence we will not score as many points. Cov and Beaty will have a very good game plan to break down the 3-3-5 D of X but it will not be enough. Repeat of 2003, X24 T-17.

GO Birds!!!!!!!!!!

I see the Rocks scoring 28 and holding the Bombers to 14 with most of the scoring coming in the first half.
I hope you are corrct
-
Cinn X wil play three teams that are all powerhouse programs before they play the Rocks. I agree about having a larger D but it will not be enough for the Rocks to beat Cinn X.Cincy X will not score like they did last year. Trinity's defense is bigger and better than last year's. I believe Trinity will win by 14. -
Info given on X. Lou T is not ranked. Cinn X is #9. Hows that for some Love for our local X folks. Congrats.
18. St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.)
Last season's record: 13-1, Class 6A runner-up
Key players: RB Deuce Finch (5-10, 200, Sr.), OL Seth Harvey (6-0, 323, Sr.), DL Trevor Foy (6-7, 240, Sr.), DB D.J. Hall (5-11, 190, Sr.); QB Matt Brutscher (6-1, 190, Sr.)
Outlook: The Tigers will aim to complete a run to the state title this season after suffering their only loss last year, in overtime, in the Class 6A final to archrival Trinity, a team they defeated in the regular season. St. Xavier has more key players returning than Trinity, and it's enough to make the Tigers No. 1 in Kentucky to start the season. Finch leads the returnees; an all-state pick, he rushed for 1,555 yards and 15 TDs last season despite missing a month with an injury. He will run behind a line anchored by Harvey. New QB Brutscher is expected to step in and excel, as well. On defense, St. Xavier has rebuilding to do, but Foy up front and Hall on the back side look like all-state candidates.

In good time Mr.XR in good time. I will say that the QB(Noe) and the running back(Swayer) look very very impressive. Good size on the lines and a LB that looks to be special as well. I know they have many more but these are just a few.The best Trinity freshman class in recent years would be the class of '07 (they were freshmen Brohm's senior year). They went undefeated. Can anyone compare this years bunch to them? -
That I can not say, but as a CSAA coach I did get to see the kids going to T and they were darn good. Last season was a big year talent wise in the CSAA so I am sure X got it's usual share of studs. Good luck.Happily, it looks like both X and T are back with big numbers. From your report and that of RockPride, it sounds like the Rocks not only have a large turnout this year but speed and size as well.I guess it remains to be seen if you left any talent on the table for the Baby Bengals. It sounds like Coach McCue really has a major task in front of him if he wishes to be competitive this season. :scared:
-
I would say that based on the number of quality kids from just the CSAA, and I mean some of the very best players from last year that are now wearing Green and white this could be a very special class. Time will tell.^ That sounds like a much more realistic number. Sometimes the numbers you hear on here are a little "tainted". Now when one says "loaded" that can be an opinion, however, 110+ can not be construed as down or around 60 - 70. Ox - do you have any other reports on the Baby Bengals, PM me. Thanks. -
Sorry Ox I got it from an X guy so I took it to be true. Glad to hear that X has so many kids out.I don't know where you heard the X numbers, but there were 113 out for the freshmen last week. That is a far cry from 60-70.
