  1. Referring to XTIGER69 post # 16

You must not catch many high shool broadcasts.

All I can say is if your "many Trinity friends" have listened to enoughTHS radio to know they're "the worst ever", then I suggest they contact the athletic office or administration to let them know. I know THS is concerened w/their image, and if "the many Trinity friends" are real fans they should demand a worthy product... not "the worst ever".

    AMEN!!!

  2. The Purples wil have to score 35 to keep it close.

I look for the Purples to give the ground game to the Rocks and try and keep the O from scoring quick with the passing game long drives eat time. The Purples will have to use some well balanced play calling to both score and use time. That said BG would have to score 21pts in the first three quarters to keep it close with another 7 in the fourth for a victory as I know T can score that much with our running game. It will take 28pts plus a whale of an effort from the Purple D. Good luck to both teams. Gooooo Rocksssssss

  3. Trinity will win this game but not by much as I think the key will be running the ball utilizing our OL to control the game. BG has some very athletic players on D who can cover our pass routes well enough that you don't want to let them jump up on a score with interceptions for TD'S, this being our first game. So based on that and also the Bolye game BG has to prove they can stop the run.

  4. My uncle's wife's sister's second cousin told me something also, but I'm not sure that I can verify the veracity of that distant relationship.

I will say this and it should sum it up for all concerned. Look at 05 and tell me that any of this preseason has that much meaning. Trinity looks good so far but that means nothing at this point just as it means nothing that X looks to most as just ok. I will say that baring injuries we will see an X,T final in 6A this year. After that flip a coin 05 taught us all that fact.

  5. In light of Trinity's impressive performances in their first two scrimmages, will this put a damper on the naysayers who forecast a long day for the Rocks at Cinn. St. X?

These two teams (LexCath and Scott Co.) are good programs but in no way are they on in the class of X from Cinn. The Rocks have much work to do before we get to that game including win two games. Trinity was better last night then the week before so we are making good strides.

  6. RRR you don't need to sneak into the season you are Manual with a proud tradition use it. This is what the teams of the past 5-6 years have been working for the respect word, you got it, now run with it. Good luck

  7. Good analysis Biotech... the 04 regular season game against Trinity was fun, exciting offensive football to watch which is not something you can always say about a ST.X offense. There's no reason X can't do that every game. The short pass is almost as safe as a run from a turnover perspective. This is something that should be a regular part of the offense week in and week out, getting better every week so by the time playoffs come the offense is clicking on all cylinders. Maybe Glaser thinks that night was something of a fluke because Trinity was not ready for that? Any thoughts on why that offensive scheme was pretty much abandoned after that night? Yes, we saw the same formations a few times after that, but X never did wholesale commit to it like that night.

I know that X has great coaching it has been proven time and again. Sometimes you really have to listen to what your former players are saying as coaches and make the change. I think MG really looked at that game and said we fooled T with the scheme and won big. When in reality what happened is he got the ball to all of the play makers in the O and kicked our you know what. I will say that we did not do what we were supposed to do with our DE play which was changed for the title game but that would have ownly IMHO made a better game of it, with the same outcome. X was it's own worst by not continuing with that total offensive scheme. People have questioned Bob Redmen for years about that D he runs when playing against good passing teams and the titles he has lost out on because of it I think the same can be said of MG and I am not trying to knock him at all I just think he could have won a few more titles.

  8. I think this will be a very good test for both teams. I like the pressure LC will put on our D. It will test our ability to stop the pass and our speed to close on the ball. The o will get a beter sense of where the passing game is as LC has in the past had very good DB's so I would expect the same this year.

  9. I was at the scrimmage and was not at all impressed by the passing game of St. X.

Question to all: Have you ever been impressed with the passing game at St. X?

St. X uses the pass mostly to keep you honest. They occasionally go one on one fly pattern and try to out athlete you on the outside. Otherwise the passing game is unimaginative and ineffective for the most part IMHO.

St. X is definitely a run first, run second, run third, pass only when and if you have to team. That said I think the quarterback that is first on the depth chart at this time is the best and right choice.

I guess I am a little old school, I still enjoy St. X's offense. I may not always agree with the play selection or the field management, but hey that is what makes being a fan fun.

Luck I would agree that the passing game is lacking but for what X does and does to everyone year in and year out very very well I would say Glaser is correct in what he does offensively. Having said that I would look back to the 04 regular season against Trinity when X used the short passing game to purfection. This made the running game that much better. If you look back to the great seventy teams again the short passing game(TE) was very powerful for that Offense. Anyway JMO on X but I think for X to reach the top again they must be effective with the short passing game.

  10. I second All Tell. I was not at the scrimmage but I have been at several other SC/T scrimmages and SC games and Coach McKee has never been abusive, just passionate and loud.

I will third and pass the motion that coach Mckee was loud and passionate about getting his players to do things the right way and play hard but he was not negative or abusive.

  11. Obviously T has another great team but how does this Scott County team compare to Scott County teams from the last five years?

I was not very impressed with this Scott team some good spead but not as good in the line play as I have seen in the past. Trinity looked good at times but has much work to do in the running game. Stein was very good at times with the deep ball his timing will keep getting better and better. The passing game is ahead at this point IMO. The O-line as had been said in another thread is still working on finding chemistry and I agree. Defense could be very good this season against the run but we need work in the secondary, I think we will get a better feel next week with Lex-Cath in town.

  12. I still can't believe the ball wasn't put in Beaumont's hands on either of the final two plays they were able to run...

I was told that the last play called was to be a pass to Doug in the end zone but the QB ran instead. I have not seen the play on film and how it all unfolded but individuals clam Doug was wide open in the middle of the end zone with his arms up. All I know is that we won the game and the title. It was a great run. I did not vote for my rocks as the best team on this poll because I still think that Male had more talent and should have won. I think the biggest factor in the last two years for Trinity in big games is we have fantastic coaches. I honestly think we will have more talent on the field this year as a whole. Final note if you say the best team is the one with the total package of players and coaches I think without question trinity was the best in 06 at all levels but not by players alone.

  13. Thanks for the insight. Colerain had an awefully good RB, which T was able to maintain at best. From what I have seen, the Ashley kid is about the same size/speed. Should make out for a good game.

Villa I think you are referring to the Elder back since we have not played Colerin. I remember the main back utilized most of the night from Elder being 5'11 around 195-200 could be wrong though.

  14. PH, the bolded part may be your greatest understatement of the year. BG, like Highlands, benefits greatly from playing teams like T and X in the first game each year, as BG and Highlands generally return a decent number of starters. Programs like X and T however, are generally senior laden teams that do not return a lot of starters. As a result, the first game of the year for T and X are not what I'd call well executed games by them. I saw the BG and X game last year and it was a very, very sloppy game by X. Lots of penalties by X last year (particularly drive killing holding calls, which are particularly devastating to a run oriented, ball control offense like X's) and I think a couple of turnovers. When X played Highlands two games later, they didn't have a turnover and I don't remember any penalties called against them other than a pass interference call when they were on defense. A partner of mine likes to say about the Cinti GCL teams (which are a lot like X and T from a returning starter standpoint) that the greatest improvement is made between the first and second game and I think that's applicable to X and T. I think its why those programs do start out pretty rough, but once they get some game experience, they come on gang busters. I think that factor will play a greater role in the outcome of this game than the fact that T has a more multi dimensional offense than X has had in the past. BG certainly has the athletes to defend a multi dimensional offense.

If Trinity has a game the week before to give their first time starters (like the qb) a chance to shake things out, then I think its T by 2 or 3 tds. If not, its a one touch down game win by T.

Leatherneck great point about T and X. MBA caused us great problems in the fisrt game for the past two seasons because they are a very good program which had already played one game and more importantly for the very reasons of which you just gave. This would be more true of the 05 season then last year. We got out coached in the forth quarter as our D did not make the ajustments needed to finish the game. Point is your analysis is right on. Good luck with the up coming season Go Birds.
  15. In reference to BGHS's 3-0 win over Hoptown in 2005, you must understand that this rivalry has been an old WKC rivalry that started in 1927. Both teams really get up for each other. Back in 2002 (a 5-6 season for the Purples), Hoptown only beat BGHS 9-0. However, the Tiger coaching staff were the first to sing the praises of the Purples' effort that night...they knew going in that they were in for a tough fight that night. Not too many people outside the west know it, but BGHS/Hoptown is an old and storied rivalry!

Flashing back to this season, it is refreshing that the Purples are getting much more respect than they did for the first tilt with St X two years ago. Most people (including some very knowledgable folks) thought that the Purples were going to get beat as badly as 56-0. As a matter of fact, the only folks not predicting a blowout were Ox, Mrs PH, and me that I can remember. Last year, admittedly, the X Men shot themselves in the foot a few times, but the Purples showed their character in playing the Tigers tooth and nail despite the injury losses.

BGHS, hopefully, will have an injury free team this year. Playing Boyle Co in the first game will be a great test for the Purples D. To those saying that the Purples don't face a balanced attack very often: I think you are right. But sometimes it's very tough to make out a decent schedule at BGHS. Being saddled with a weak district doesn't help either (though it is now VERY interesting with Warren Central back in the district chase!). Maybe now the Purples will have the room on the schedule to schedule more teams like this and be better prepared for the rigors of the playoffs.

Soph DB Jay Beard's father and I were on the only other BGHS team to play Trinity (we lost on Homecoming Night 26-0 in 1974). We would love to see the Purples tie the series at one win each. Do I think it will happen? Likely not. Is there a chance of it happening? Absolutely. It can happen if the guys want it bad enough and they play at their peak best and they play very close to mistake free football. Plus I'm sure that the Rocks will not want to lose their home opener to the Purples. In any event, win or lose, it is a great opportunity for BGHS. Kudos to the folks not predicting a blowout...I agree with you all. It would not surprise me to see the game not decided until late in the fourth quarter. I think that the winner will have earned it.

If any of you Rock fans want to meet us at the game, you can spot me easily...I'll have my 1976 vintage BGHS gold jersey (#57) on that night, plus I will be in my wheelchair. Mrs PH and I will look forward to meeting as many as we can...and seeing a few that we already know! Best of luck to both squads in Week Two!:D :thumb:

PH I have read many of your comments in the past and once again you are on target. I love when the better programs in the state play each other it only makes KYHSF that much better. Good luck in your openning game see you in the Ville week two.
