  1. Brad can be tough. And intense. But he has mellowed some over the years. This is not the Carr from 8 or 9 years ago. Yes he demands a lot from his players, and his intensity shows clearly on the floor. But to say his style hasn't changed some over the years would be wrong.

Carr has indeed changed his coaching style over the years but he is still demanding and intense. He is much more reserved on the sidelines and in the huddle.

I would imagine that he finds it frustrating to be coaching effort at this point in the season. While he doesn't have a lot of seniors these players have all grown up in the program.

Carr did use his timeouts last night. If my memory is correct he used 3 in the first quarter and half that the starters/regular rotation players played. Was not ballistic in any of the timeouts and appeared to be coaching them up from a phrase used earlier in the thread. Did all he could to stop the Boone County runs from the sideline.

Team was beaten down the court consistently last night and they continue to have issues guarding in the half court. They were down by 25 and had only scored 11 points in a quarter and a half when he pulled his starters.

Have to be able to win games when shots aren't falling and that starts with a tough mentality and being able to get stops on the defensive side.

  2. The only point I was making is big games , down the stretch it is nice to have a big man inside . Brad is a great guy and coach. Just in my opinion....If an opportunity to have a big kid with potential could of been helpful.

Big kids with potential don't play in big games. If they haven't played they are not ready for that environment.

It's on the current team. It's great to be able to score 20 but if you give up 20+ on the other end????

  3. I agree 100 percent, on the size issue and I agree they should of kept a big guy from football this season to help take up space and pull down boards. Unfortunately Brad Carr decided to cut him, instead of working with him and utilizing his potential and size.

Carr has been very successful in the past coaching teams with little to no size. Those teams were very good defensive teams.

Defense and toughness are a choice. Until a few of their players decide that they want to be lockdown defenders Scott will play entertaining games but tough to beat good teams consistently playing bad defense

Carr's best teams have always been about toughness. Don't think he has changed.

  4. Jake Thelen is doing great at Bellarmine, too.

D2 Basketball is legit. Not easy to get there and players such as Thelen and Smith playing well at that level should help other student athletes from Northern Kentucky get opportunities.

Ruthsatz is going to be a really good player at Findlay. As good ss he was in high school there is still a major difference at the D2 level.

  5. Were you at the game?

I was at the game and there wasn't a lot of defense played on either side. Straight line drives to the basket with no help were the norm and not the exception. Both teams shot well from the perimeter but most were wide open looks. I have seen Holmes 2 times and Scott 3 times this season and am pretty comfortable saying that each is defensively challenged.

  6. Ohmer is much more versatile than Hatton was as a Soph and a lot better defender.

Ohmer is a very nice player and barring something catastrophic will leave Scott as it's all time leading scorer by a wide margin. However, by the time Hatton was a soph he had already dropped his first thousand and been a major contributor on a Sweet 16 team. In addition to his high school exploits he had already established himself as a very good player on an elite AAU level.

Give Ohmer some time but that is not a fair comparison at this moment.

  7. Thread is a blast from the past! Would think Ruthsatz and Thelen would start showing up on some CovCath lists?

Does Jake Giesler from NewCath deserve some consideration? He put up a lot of points and rebounds in his time there?

For Brossart do Jake Rieger and Alex Trentman deserve some consideration?

Don't recall seeing lists from schools like Scott & Dixie. Dixie has a long basketball tradition and a recent star in Hatton. Hard to imagine a list without him being in the starting five.

And as my dad has told me for years you can't discuss All Time Holmes players without Bob Barton!!

  8. Seems to happen more often than it should. Not sure if the kids aren't ready for being away, coaching staff changes or maybe the kids are just wore out from all the basketball they play...basically year round from kindergarten through high school.

College basketball is hard work. Just because you have had some success at the high school or AAU does not mean that the student athlete is prepared for the rigors of playing at the next level. Some continue to improve and thrive while others find out they aren't cut out to play at the next level.

  9. Ruthsatz should start to see his minutes increase as the guard situation at Findlay is pretty unsettled at this time.

Starting PG from last season is no longer in school due to some legal issues and backup PG tore up his knee and is thought to be out for the year.

With that being said Findlay is probably a little overrated at this time at #16 and Bellarmine is probably a little underrated at #10

  10. Been here a couple of times and enjoyed my meal each time. My wife ordered from their draft selection and I had the plastic bottle pop. Price with tip included is about what we spend out at other sit down type restaurants. Service has been outstanding each time we attended. Waitresses were helpful with the menu and service process and attentive after we ordered. No problem recommending the restaurant and we will be going back very soon.

  11. Quick glance at schedule reveals a few Northern Kentucky connections. Early trip to Saginaw Valley State for GLIAC/GLVC challenge for a game where Kellen Smith from Scott and Will Stuhr from Ryle play. Findlay plays at Bellarmine with Nick Ruthsatz from CovCath. Bellarmine travels to Memphis for a game with Christian Brothers and Alex Trentman from Brossart. Bellarmine also plays IU-East in Evansville where Tyler Fangman from Beechwood currently plays.

  12. Had a Morehead assistant ask me about Ethan today.

Was told he had a really good workout yesterday in front of Belmont.

Another D1 (can't say who) has an in home scheduled with his family.

Have they changed the D1 recruiting guidelines recently? Used to be that an in home visit with a junior could only be done during the April recruiting period?

Off campus contacts used to be limited to prospects educational institution for juniors except for that April recruiting period? NCAA rules change frequently so if there has been any changes since the August 2013 update that might allow for an in home visit with a current junior?

If they are scheduling the in home visit for April already that is extremely proactive planning by that particular program!

  13. Anybody have a steak at Blinker's in Covington. I have heard a couple people (I don't trust) say they have an excellent steak and they have a board out front being voted best steak for some year. Thinking about trying it out.

Have not eaten at Blinkers yet.....

Go to Keystone across the street for the Mac-n-Cheese and Blinkers always seems to have a nice crowd.

  14. Finally made it to Packhouse in Newport and had a really good meal. Had the daily special which was a cream cheese and jalapeno meatball and the jalapeno macaroni. Will definitely go back to try some of the other menu items. Seemed a little pricey with a few beers on the tab but a different type of dining experience.
